- It’s time to drop in on the NC Chinese Lantern Festival. This is our first time going and we were blown away by how awesome it was.
Some quick information. Each lantern is created by hand on silk fabric and are exclusively made for this festival. Most of these lanterns are made in the city of Zigong, the lantern capital of China for many centuries. The materials are shipped from China to the ports in Wilmington, NC. It took over 15 tractor-trailers to deliver the material. Chinese artisans arrive in early November to start hand assembling the lanterns. In the process they use thousands of LED lights. This years Festival is in partnership with Tianyu Culture. The festival started Nov 18, 2022 and will run through Jan 8, 2023. So you still have a little time left to go check it out.
We wish we would have gone sooner so you guys would have more time to make plans to attend because it is worth making time for. These lanterns were just so amazing. So bright and colorful. The only regret we have is we were walking the trail of lanterns during the show and by the time we saw all the lanterns the show was over and then honestly - we were just too cold to wait around for the next show. We also had a long drive home. This will be a must do next year again and we’ll just plan better. Anyway - let us take you along as we walk around and see all the lanterns.
