*Have a 2003 Sequoia. My father salvaged it from a junkyard almost 15 years ago. He fixed it up nicely, and still runs fine to this day. Easily one of the most rugged and durable Toyotas of today.*
I had 2002 Tundra put 200k on it, but it ate 3 transmissions. When they went to 5 speed it fixed a lot of the problems. That early Tacoma trans did not like the v8, but I did tow a lot and always had good deal of payload.

I have a 2018 Toyota sequins platinum and love it All of the seats are comfortable the very back recline I'm getting 16 to 20 miles per gallon depends on how I drive it
People still complaining about it's design? I don't think it looks old at all. It's funny people don't complain about Jeep Wrangler, G wagon and other old looking SUVs but cherry pick on Toyota Sequoia.
deadkemper Iconic, yes but like an expensive date she’ll walk away leaving you with an expensive bill to pay. The Seqoia will always be right there by your side year after year.
UnrealOG nah, i like how the Tacoma is. Toyota sells to the world and in many places, parts aren't readily available. Also the new Camry radio is not easy to modify to add your own speaker system because aftermarket car audio systems are always better and cheaper with features.
@@ryadhasanahmed5443 It's expensive and there is no reason for it being so expensive. If they wanna make it the dinosaur of the lineup, it needs to be priced in the 25-30k bracket. Their more tech filled cars will also last a really long time without many issues. A lot of manufactures have figured out how to make long term reliability work while also adding more tech.
"Ugh this thing is so old and outdated and plain and boring eww" Meanwhile GM puts out a new flashy updated model every three weeks that ends up falling apart within a year, but ohh look they have apple car hand massaging steering wheel with starbucks snapchat automatic manbun skinnyjeans b.s. Toyota's philosophy is solid reliability with proven mechanics. It works and people buy them over and over. You want recalls and major depreciation go with the Chevy whatever
My Tahoe is a 2012 no issues with nearly 100k miles on it other that, basic maintenance. I did change an alternator but I don't count that. I would not buy the new Tahoe though I do not like number 1 the price tag and they removed the ability to remove the seats. Being able to remove the third row is what separated the Tahoe from everyone else for me.
I have to agree. Everything that he complained about is what I love about the sequoia. I'm ridiculously excited about the new trd pro. However, I'm waiting to see if Toyota gives in too much to the demand of the new flashy bullshit. They better not get rid of the shifter knob, but I do hope they up the size of the screen in the front. Keep it classic Toyota.
@@robertbarber7343 but in the tahoes third row seat you sit with your knees in your chest because the third row has no footwell like the Sequoia, Armada and Expedition have. You have to remove the third row to get a flat load space because it is mounted on the floor that's the same height as the floor behind it. When you fold the third row seats in the competition the load floor is flat and low.
We had a 02 4Runner and my sister destroyed it at 230k miles. I miss it. It got like 14 miles a gallon but it felt like one solid truck. It was starting to get outdated though.
One of my favorite review videos. I recently purchased a 2019' Sequoia. Just like anyone, I spent a lot of time watching RUclips reviews and reading online.. I purchased a new Sequoia Limited in 2003, as well, and still own it. The 2003' Sequoia has 255k miles on it. I've never had a major repair issue and this SUV has always performed like new. I purchased the 2019 Toyota Sequoia for reasons of loyalty, reliability and trust.
My 2007 has 150,000 miles. I might not need another truck again... I'm 46 now so maybe when i am 60 and it has 350,000 on it. Had frame recalled so new frame and no rust. Epic truck.
I actually think it looks very convoluted with all those different knobs and switches. Reliability and simplicity aren't mutually exclusive. Overall, the design is pretty lazy for a vehicle with that price tag.
@@carlogarcia88 Knobs and switches are easier to use and are simpler to get to in my opinion. While it does seem lazy, some people just prefer to keep things the way they are.
I don’t care that it’s old. It’s just about perfect, and will run forever. That engine is awesome and you feel great driving it. Stop complaining about the age!
@@bliglum Not seeing the excellent Toyota resale in this over a Tahoe. Today a Tahoe LTZ/Premier is $10,000 less than a Sequoia Platinum on cars dot com. A 2008 LTZ with 120,000 miles is $15K, while 2008 Sequoia Platinum with similar mileage is $20K. The Tahoe depreciates $5,000 less and would easily cover a wheel bearing or three. The new Tahoe is in a another decade in technology, drivability, and fuel economy....no comparison.
Wife has this exact white Platinum Sequoia, 2012. Mine is maroon 2012. They are awesome beasts! Full rear DVD, luxury everything, 6000 pounds of enveloping safety, rides like a dream, and gas mileage 15 mpg, drinking like the beast it is. 5.7 L V8, wanna race? True 4WD (hi/lo). We have never had a repair other than routine maintenance. #Toyota #Winner This reviewer is aesthetically biased, this is a freaking truck, boss. It’s for pulling boats and hauling cargo.
I have a 2016 platinum sequoia (peal white also) and I LOVE it! Every time you say it’s “old” or looks like a “dinosaur” I roll my eyes! It’s the best looking vehicle on the road and I’ll be very disappointed if they change it. Everything about this vehicle is fabulous. I strongly disagree that this vehicle “reminds me that it’s old” 🙄
I bought a 2018 Platinum (5 months ago) and the MSRP was $69k. I got it after incentives and b/f tax/tags for $56,300. Its one of the best trucks I have ever owned. I also have a family of 5 and need a generous third row seat.
How has the sequoia been so far for you? Any pros/cons? I’m looking into getting one with a family of soon to be 5 We plan to do long trips, short trips, so comfy and reliability is a must for us. Thanks
We have a 2008 and I'd agree with that. I don't understand why he dislikes it so much. He likes new flash and tech gadgetry. True consumers with families are looking for long-term reliability, capability, safety and something that will hold its value. You can't go wrong, it's a sensible buy.
@@_thebusphotograher_cali it would get a little better mpg if it had like a 355 or 373 rear end ratio instead of that 430 it come with, there's no reason a suv has to come with that kind of ratio, most Soccer mom's aren't pulling around 10000 LBS loads
And you know he's never lived out in the real world when he says "they need to make it less truck like" while reviewing a truck based SUV. Its a tool my boy. Its made to work. Its designed to haul 7 full grown adult men out to the work sight.
I agree with you, I live in a country road and have 4 kids that play many different sports and have to carry a lot of stuff. Those car like Highlanders SUV just don't make it for those who need a full size SUV.

A lot of nitpicking in this “review”. Bottom line: The Sequoia is an excellent SUV that will last a long time. I’ll take reliability over bells and whistles any day.
Basic features that have been around since mid 2000s (push button start) are not bells and whistles. There's no excuse for a $60k car to not have this.
It’s just a bad feature. How long can you submerge an electronic fob for? A traditional key costs $2, works well and is unaffected by things like water or impact. Fobs are fragile pieces of junk.
Well it must sell well because Toyota is still selling it in 2020 and 2021. I’d rather have a turn key anyhow. Maybe they could lower the price and not add the fancy crap.
I’m already excited for this one. The new sequoia is exactly what I like in an SUV - they don’t need to change, the allure is the classic SUV experience. And, in all honesty, unless you drive new or luxury cars constantly, 4-runners and Sequoias are packed with everything you’d need. You’re not spoiled but you’re cared for
is it outdated? absolutely. But I think in a good way... you buy any full size 3 row body on frame suv today you're looking at 100k + insane maintenance fees... you can get a 2009 sequoia limited for around 15k and LITERALLY get the reliability of a corolla... I mean if I had 5 kids the choice would be easy. Not every family has 20k to spare for parts & maintenance when buying a family utility SUV. Life is extremely though for big families and car reviewers always depic that Utopia world where you can chose between any car when the truth is you NEED that reliability and the sequoia offers it.
5 kids, a mini van is more practical. I traded my 12 sequoia 110k mi straight acoss for 16 sienna 24k miles and regret it everyday! Not practical but I sure felt safer
I have yet to hear or see a legitimate problem. I would still buy that SUV/Cargo plane/ Aircraft Carrier if I needed a large SUV over most of the competition mostly because 300k miles down the road it's still running and probably has never left me sitting on the side of the road waiting for a flatbed.
Exactly. I just traded in my 2005 Sequoia with 389,000 miles for a new one. Why? because all the reliability reports show it has the best production and manufacturing values on the planet. If I had wanted fancy electronic design features I could have bought an Escalade and throw it away after a year.
Rented a 2019 for a long weekend a couple of weeks ago. LOVED everything about it. Absolute pleasure to drive. Excellent road presence/visibility. The V8 makes the Sequoia move with authority when needed. I thought the gas mileage was very decent (given that it is a 6000lb V8, 8 passenger, body on frame SUV) doing a combination of highway and city driving, often with the air conditioner on. The 6" (or whatever size screen did not bother me) and neither did the 'one-dimensional' backup camera. All those fripperies are O.K. however, cup holders, infotainment screens, heated/cooled seats, and push button ignitions don't even begin to make my Top 10 list of concerns when selecting an SUV. Powerful/Reliable engine?---check. Durable/Reliable transmission?---check. Timing chain?---check. Strong reputation/Owner reviews? check. Comfortable driver's seat? check. A/C blows ice cold? check. Excellent visibility? check. Safety? check. Good ground clearance? check. Made by Toyota? check. If I could afford one (and didn't live in such a densely populated area, with narrow streets and whatnot), I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
Really? Cup holders don't? Is that only because you always have them? The moment you have cup holders that suck you realize how important they actually are. Obviously cups, sunglasses, phones, other odds and ends go in there. The Highlander's cup holders are great for everything, except cups.
Not sure why you felt it is old. A car is a car, fancy things are not necessary. Keeping things the same reduce manufacture's cost , as long as people still buy it, don't change it .
I’ll take that dinosaur over a new Denali or Escalade any day. Used to work at a Toyota dealership. Now I’m at a GM dealership. The new junk I see that comes through the GM dealership.
Absolutely LOVE everything about Toyota vehicles and the “OLD” interiors!!! It is so simple to use and reliable, all this new tech creates many problems . Toyota has the most reliable, affordable and easy to use vehicles and everyone knows it.
The people complaining wouldn’t buy one to begin with...Like Sofyan here, you see he’s into Tesla & Porsche. The people buying these don’t care about anything Sofyan is preaching & that’s FACTS!!!
I agree it's a dino. But you can bet it's engineered to out last the competition 😂 there's no argument about that🙂 idk what's the fuss about the old school key. It's guaranteed to be less likely stolen.
TNA WWE yea he’s reviews are always like that but I like it because he doesn’t kiss ass so you get a unbiased review and not just a video of someone complementing a car witch is useless as a review.
"It feels like if I got in a wreck I would probably survive, and the person I hit would probably die". LOLOLOL S-O-L-D!!!!! And as a '13 Tunda platinum owner, I totally agree with your views of it. Old, super thirsty, but reliable, and would be great if they modernized it, specifically lane keep assist and advanced adaptive cruise control.
I want a vehicle that is durable and serviceable. I don't care about a restyled grill, diamond patterned stitching, multi-colored ambient lighting, etc.
My mom has had 4 of these. This car to her is the reliable cute girlfriend, but cars like the infiniti qx80, vw atlas, lincoln mkx, grand cherokee, all caught her eye, but she’s always come back to this one.
I have a 2008 and am happy to see how little has changed! I love my Sequoia and if it got wrecked, I'd by another Sequoia. A truly GREAT design. No wonder its been built for 12 years!
Bad advice at the end, go with the Toyota over the Nissan. You won' t regret the extra couple grand for the Toyota. The Sequoia is a far superior vehicle.
@@the.rico.network Reducing the engine size for a large, heavy vehicle like this does not generally result in superiour fuel economy. Compare the 4.6 offered in the Tundra versus the 5.7. The larger engine doesn't have to work as hard and thus uses only slightly more fuel, but offers drastically more torque and power. Fuel economy is gained by adding mechanical and electrical complication like smaller displacement with a turbo charger, direct fuel injection, variable valve timing systems, cylinders that shut off, 8 speed transmissions, or by reducing weight (the dreaded F150 aluminum box). With added complication generally comes diminished reliability. The mechanical and electrical underpinnings of the Sequoia are relatively simple, proven, and reliable. This is why people will still buy this vehicle. The added fuel consumption sometimes is the lesser evil versus inconsistent reliability. That being said, I would love to see Toyota step up their fuel economy game for their truck line. They are something like a decade behind at this point.
@@the.rico.network I don’t disagree. Hybrid tech is well established at Toyota, a hybrid version could be attractive to Tundra and Sequoia customers, but not everyone. Toyota really has to do something about the fuel economy. They must be bleeding market share in the truck segment. In my opinion, they should start by getting a 8 or 9 speed transmission in the big trucks.
The designed might be "old" but the reliability of a Toyota car never gets "old". I would buy this vehicle over and over again. 2010 Toyota Sequoia owner! :-)
I swear to god Toyota could sell horse drawn carriages for 45 grand and people would still argue how simple and reliable the design is and how its totally worth it
Salmaan Muneer this aged well? Lol. This already looked outdated 7 years ago. It definitely hasn’t aged well. It’s survived because of it’s dependability but hasn’t aged well at all.
The door sound? I mean what would you expect it to sound like at about 6000 pounds, lol I disagree with aging well, those tail lights are outdated and looked almost similar to the original first generation
They can't update this but can make the rest of the lineup of cars look like breeds of fish, with their gaping mouth grills. Maybe no update is a good thing.
The reason why you might want an ancient vehicle like this is for the unbeatable reliability. This thing is well tested and will last forever. I purchased a Nissan Frontier Pro4x last year for the same reason. I wanted a simple, reliable, capable small truck that didn't cost a ton of money. I understand why most buyers wouldn't want something this old, but for those who appreciate old school simplicity and reliability, this would be an excellent choice.
I love this Sequoia! My wife's 2016 4Runner Limited is amazing. If we didn't have her vehicle I would seriously look at buying this. Wonderful long term reliability. Toyota is great.
The Sequoia is great. I shopped the market a lot and looked at all the competitors. Ended up settling on a 2008 limited trim. We love it! Don't live your hate for it, but, grass is greener on the other side I suppose? 😂🤣🤣
It is all about gadgets and bells. Ford had v6 turbo engine in their expedition. The sequoia has a pride and true engine. The expedition is towing 9100 lbs with a v6. The sequoia looks like its built to last. It has huge volume capacity. I love the sound of the engine. That is a lot of security you are listening too.
Meaning the design is ‘old’ doesn’t mean the car is ‘old’ by any means. I think Toyota makes their vehicles with the old saying in mind: “ If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” The Sequoia gives you everything you will need to drive in comfort in long trips, great cargo, safety, and most importantly, durability. It may not massage your butt and unlock the doors by itself for you and tell you ‘welcome driver’ with today’s unreliable high tech, but it still the best most durable SUV in its class. Beautiful dinosaur !🦖
Nice review. I owned a 2010 Toyota Sequoia Limited for 10 years. It had 127,000 miles and I bought it for the towing capacity. It was a great vehicle, was in a rear end vehicle and I totaled the Subaru and the other driver was walking at the scene that I rear-ended. A great body shop fixed the front end damage for $14,000 because it holds its value. Your test drive brought me back to when I had mine. I bought a 2018 Honda CR-V Touring, trade in value for $15,500. Desperate need of an upgrade! Merry Christmas!
Just what I want. A SUV from 10 years ago but New! Its a Classic. Will replace my 2005 Yukon. The new GMC Yukon seats are terrible, ride is awful, rearview mirrors tiny for vehicle, a big disappointment. I can open my own lift gate. Seats look very comfortable, a chair design that supports lower back. Love it! Less is better, tried and true, if it ani’t broke don’t redesign.
Yes, but side steering ignition is as old as it gets. At least they could have placed the ignition on the front, not mounted on the steering like a 68 mustang... Lol
Jermaine Crump when I’m paying $60k for a truck I’m expecting some features and not just necessary. If that was the case I would just get highlander and save $20K
2002 Toyota Sequoia Limited with 275k. Replaced the 6-disk stereo with a nav unit and back-up camera. Best part of this truck is it's very comfortable and doesn't care about road imperfetions. Pot-holes? Don't care. Speed bumps? Don't care. Priuses. Don't care. $3,500. Love it.
The rear suspension is not for off road or handling it’s for load leveling when towing. The competition will have that Uber annoying rear end squat when towing which makes it drive like a 1960’s van where the Sequoia will drive like nothing is behind it when towing. I love the fact that it doesn’t have soft touch pleather because that crap doesn’t last. I hope they never put direct injection on that motor. People buy this because they want a real truck SUV and not a minivan masquerading as an SUV
Good point about the load leveling suspension. But I disagree on the the soft touch vs hard plastic for interior. I would say that neither will last. Soft touch will start to deform and start to split. Plastic will discolor, get ashy then start cracking and crumbling. They both suck for longevity, but both are better than a long lasting, old school metal dash that would kill us in a crash lol!
My mom bought the 2008 sequoia when they changed the body design. It’s definitely a reliable truck it’s been running good all the way up til now. Toyota definitely need to revamp the exterior and interior like today!
Yes it’s a dinosaur but provides basically all the amenities a driver needs. Plus it is super reliable. I’m cool with not having the push button start. Is that feature really that important? What happens if your fob battery dies with push to start? My 2012 4Runner is outdated too but it’s running strong! Great review!
I had one of these as a rental like 5-6 years ago and it was surprisingly fun to drive. That DOHC 5.7L V8 is powerful, refined and sounds great. Highway road noise was my only really complaint. Kind of a shame that Toyota hasn’t updated it for so long but the market seems to be moving towards car-based crossovers.
I have an 08 Limited with 197,000 miles and its such a great vehicle,so much room inside in all rows,i believe it might be the roomiest inside of all suvs, I really like the way Toyota keeps it simple and thats why there tops in durability and reliability, things just don't break like other suvs, that 5.7L engine is really pretty powerful, but if your worried about gas mileage, don't buy it,other than that, its a top notch vehicle,TOYOTA IS KING,really good video my man..
The REAL automotive dinosaur is the Chevy Express/ GMC Savanna. These have the same bodies since 1997, the same front sheet metal since 2003 and same dash since 2010.
In my opinion, the Sequoia has grown old quite gracefully. It looks nice and quite capable and doesn't look too old. Perhaps the best way to appreciate the Sequoia for what it is is to go look at a couple of SUVs that have been updated with the time- the Nissan Pathfinder and Jeep Cherokee. Now those are some SUVs that will really make you appreciate old-school SUVs like this one. After watching your review, I kind-of wouldn't mind having one of these and it wasn't a vehicle even on my radar before.
If you want the latest gadgets, gizmos and looks, then go with another brand and enjoy their unproven, unreliable products. Toyota is reliable because they don't change everything every five minutes like the other brands do. In other words, the last thing it needs is a revamp...
I have a 2010 Toyota Sequoia and it's been a great vehicle. I recently went and test drove a 2019 Ford Expedition because the fuel economy was appealing to me and it looks nice. After driving the expedition it just felt kinda cheap, like it wasn't going to hold up over time. I happily left the dealer with my Sequoia.
Since Toyota waited TEN years to refresh this truck, they could have put more effort into this refresh. They could've offered LED tail lights and add features to keep it modern ($50K and you still gotta press buttons on a key to lock and unlock the car, doesn't make any sense)... But I guess they are already working on a new Sequoia/Tundra , that is why they just did a quick refresh

Owen Huang it’s not unlivable, it’s just outdated in comparison to what almost every new car has these days. Especially on a car this expensive.
Owen Huang no but for 60K and not getting basics things that are in cars that cost $19K is a let down

People still complaining about it's design? I don't think it looks old at all. It's funny people don't complain about Jeep Wrangler, G wagon and other old looking SUVs but cherry pick on Toyota Sequoia.
Both of those have updated interiors so as to keep up with the times. The real problem with this is the interior.
Jeep products are “cool retro” and therefore get a pass for being expensive junk.
maybe the G and the jeep are iconic designs..this is fairly soulless looking ?
deadkemper Iconic, yes but like an expensive date she’ll walk away leaving you with an expensive bill to pay. The Seqoia will always be right there by your side year after year.
deadkemper - Well if they don't change the design for 20+ years Toyota Sequoia will be an iconic design as well.
Toyota knows what they’re doing, don’t fix what works.

When you fold the third row seats in the competition the load floor is flat and low.

Epic truck.
It's old, but it'll appeal to people who prefer simplicity in a new SUV.

Me too...
I’m already excited for this one. The new sequoia is exactly what I like in an SUV - they don’t need to change, the allure is the classic SUV experience. And, in all honesty, unless you drive new or luxury cars constantly, 4-runners and Sequoias are packed with everything you’d need. You’re not spoiled but you’re cared for
Couldn’t agree with you more. Why do people bitch about vehicles they will never buy.

Just like an old folk once told me, why change what works and is already good. I'd still pick a toyota over anything american.
Gazz Robinson Toyota Sequoia is American
A A and Chevy Tahoe is made in mexico
yeah but it's not worth it's $60k+ price tag
is it outdated?
Crixus I’m pretty sure we understand that. Like he said, corolla reliability. It will reach 300 000 miles with proper maintenance.
5 kids, a mini van is more practical. I traded my 12 sequoia 110k mi straight acoss for 16 sienna 24k miles and regret it everyday! Not practical but I sure felt safer
Yep. Reliability and durability.

You dont buy a toyota for bells and whistles or for style. You buy them for robustness and longevity.
I'd rather drive this than any other new SUV with all that other tech. It will outlast them.

It does what all the others do, and you can depend on it. I don’t see it as outdated, I would buy one.
Wait, did you mention how old and outdated this vehicle is? I think I missed it 😒😂
Meaning the design is ‘old’ doesn’t mean the car is ‘old’ by any means.

Amen.

Super dated. Interior and exterior are both extremely old. Needs a major revamp.
If you want the latest gadgets, gizmos and looks, then go with another brand and enjoy their unproven, unreliable products. Toyota is reliable because they don't change everything every five minutes like the other brands do. In other words, the last thing it needs is a revamp...
get oofed Some people like old school design. Why change it if it works and is much simpler.
Nodak81 I don’t know what the interior does with reliability
Not Royal Skyline when its simpler and there are less electronics the chance that something will break is much lower
Ivanov Preslav that does nothing with the ugly steering wheel and trim dude
Even though the sequioa design is old. I actually love it.
Anybody else catch Sofyans voice keeps going in and out? His mic or something is glitchy...
Disembodied Sofyan=spooky.
@Ernest Cazenave Its there. Pay attention.
@Ernest Cazenave he needs a proper check up
He did a voice over in a couple places. Maybe he had some mic issues while taping or just gave out bad info and corrected it in post-production.
@@Tully3674 Thanks! That's what I was figuring!
Imagine being in a smart car or a Chevy spark. I guess it's safe to say the driver of this car will come out perfectly fine and in tact
