It’s only really because idom isn’t used to playing against bison. Once he plays against it more I think he’ll do better. Also idom was pretty off this tournament as well. He’s played much better in other tournaments
And this set is beyond breathtaking too. Both Bison and Laura are characters with strong mixed ups and little reversal measures. Meaning they both have to going all out with their own vortexes and any bad guess could get one of them killed regardless of how the health lead is like. All these factors combined with both players’ reflexes. This is one of these SFV matches that I am going to remember for a very long time
Zhen basically figured Idom's playstyle out, and Idom never really adjusted. He caught on to Idom wanting to do blocked buttons to buffer into command grab, and started jumping out to punish the recovery frames. Knew Idom wasn't respecting Bison's st. HP max range and abused it against him. Checked him in the corner with crouching buttons to beat out light jabs with priority. I think if Idom made the necessary adjustments, didn't try contesting EX Headstomp so much (and getting blown up for it; Laura's no Luke and even Mena mistimed the punish a couple times in his fight with Zhen), I think it would've at least been a much closer game. Dunno if Bison's a super-bad MU for Laura but even so, that's why you find any weakness and exploit it. Anyway tho, big props to Zhen for the W. He's got a really good future in SF6 I reckon (will he play JP?), same with EndingWalker. America has to stop putting all its weight on one or two players at a time; Idom shouldn't be the only American good enough to compete with the best of international talent, there's too many American players for it to just boil down to one. America better step it TF up for SF6 😂😂
Americans have so many tournaments, so many local scenes, EVO is in the US, Capcom Cup is in the US, I don't get why they aren't stronger than that. Arguably the UK alone is stronger than the US, and maybe even France.
7:29 Hitbox charge partitioning is insane! Look how fast he managed to charge his headstomp after the dash. He was charging down almost instanly within the dash animation. This is just something you cant do on a Arcade stick man.
@@yusuf8938 Good luck trying to input a dash, then return to neutral, and then instantly input down to reach this charging speed on an arcade stick. You're never going to do it as fast and consistently as a hitbox user, who already has his finger on the down button while starting his dash animation.

He's super good don't get me wrong but I feel like everyone was unfamiliar with his play and they didn't have enough time or data to adapt to his play.... Kinda like how Idom washed all the Japanese players at Evo, they didn't have a Laura like his over there, Same zhen being the most aggressive bison around
People respect Bison too much. His pressure is fake but the damage intimidates people To beat Bison you gotta keep him from getting started. Use Vreversal liberally and bait him into trying to escape with ex head stomp. It's easily punished if you set it up Mena understood this well and thats why he steamrolled Zhen the way he did
iDom was cooked simply because he could not adjust to Zhen quickly. That's all. If they meet again, it would not go this way because iDom would be much more prepared.
I think in this top 8 there was a clear gap between number 1 and 2 and then another massive gap between second place and everyone else. Zhen was manhandling everyone.
I don't usually root for MenaRD, but I'm glad he won yesterday. This Zhen dude is really, really good, but there's no emotion in him, he looks like a robot, like those ultra trained Chinese gymnastics athletes.
