Interesting. I love not having bunch of employees to worry about. My wife was always having problems with her business with employees not showing up or quitting.
My uncle has 2 locations in Toronto Cheeks Coin-Op Car Wash. 1 location has 8 wash bays and 6 vacuums at the rear. Location 2 has 6 wash bays and 6 vacuums in front. In same parking as mechanic
Here’s a suggestion for you, make a bracket couple inches wider, and a couple inches deeper than your extension ladder and mount it to the ceiling , then at the other end of the ladder Attach a pulley to the ceiling above the ladder, and another pulley over by the wall and run a rope from the ladder upwards through the pulley’s and tie it off at the wall … maybe get a rope cleat like they have on the boat … that way the ladder will always be there, but up out of the way
Do you have to reorder tokens on occasion or consider just using quarters, bill acceptors, and/or credit card readers? Customers get 10 tokens use 8 and the two never seem to return. Over time token supply diminishes? In addition, more and more people are going cashless. Great job with the channel and growing your business.
Yes over time tokens get lower. I pay 20 cents approx so even if someone puts in a dollar and takes the tokens away still w good profit. I usually top up tokens every 6 months or so. But yes I am putting in bill acceptors next week
Great stuff man! My family owns one and I often help out so seeing your routine is all so familiar! Out of curiosity, do you employee folks to help with dumping the trash, sweeping the area, and keeping an eye out for any broken hoses/equipment? Or are you running these completely solo? The amount of trash people dump at a car wash is just unbelievable around here (arghh!).
Bro you could play the next wolverine, how sick would that be?, seeing as Hugh was the last wolverine. I know off topic here lol, cool vids though mate.
In my experience I’ve never done that but after looking into it it seems like a lot of work and very expensive mainly with permits from the city and all the underground work that needs doing like installing the Clarifiers and drains and would probably be close to 500k minimum as a rough guess. I’d much rather find run down where everything is already there and city has permits for it then just invest into the rehab.
I was wondering. If you count tokens and bills, aren’t you double counting since those tokens represent a dollar? Or do you count tokens just to verify?
Yes that’s right. I don’t count the tokens towards the total just the cash and quarters but in order for the machine to separate the tokens and quarters it just automatically counts them as I don’t want to do it by hand
Is there any way to see and learn what the employee does to takes care of all the maintenance items over a week or a day or common repairs? Love your channel though really informative! looking into buying a car wash in a few years when financially possible
Sure. I’ll work on making a video about maintenance in the upcoming future. Basically he if there’s a leak or a broken wand off the high pressure gun he’ll just replace those. Swivels and wands are about $10 so cheap and only takes a few mins. He might do this once a week or if we get a good run 2-3 times a month. That’s the most common. I bought all new motors so they usually last for years but worst case of one is faulty and goes down they’re only $600.
@@CarWashChronicles ahh oh that’s definitely helpful with having new motors/pumps and stuff. Thank you for making a video on this in the upcoming future since when I get to the point of purchasing one maintenance is a big grey area for me
Hey Chris love the videos. I own two self serve car washes just north of you in Kern county. I noticed it looks like it you are running a 20 gallon Quincy air compressor in your wash. How is it working out for you? I’m replacing one of the air compressors in my wash and my 80 gallon ingersoll rand seems like overkill.
Yes I do. I dispense tokens from my bill changers but I also programmed the coin acceptors to take quarters as well for the customers who already have quarters they can just use them.
@@CarWashChronicles so do you take the quarters to the bank and deposit them? Or do you put the quarters back in the hopper with the tokens once you count them?
I take the quarters to the bank. I don’t mix them in the hoppers because one token is worth $1 and a quarter is obviously 25 cents so hence I separate them with the coin counting machine
Thanks John. Depends how well you set it up. My worker is very reliable and knows how to fix any problems so that takes a lot of pressure off. 3 days works for me but only because my worker is great.
@@CarWashChronicles What you you have to do to make it a once a week stop? Bigger soap storage and token dispensers etc. Also credit card readers? Just wondering about more passive income/ability to travel.
@@CarWashChronicles I have to think long and hard about the money. The easiest way with the money is to get big enough that you have 5 plus have someone who can manage them and by then you have an idea of how much the car washes make and can keep the theft to a minimum. Or you and your wife birth some kids and wait 18 years for reliable employees.
I have a worker that knows everything to do with car washes and knows how to build them so I just call him if there’s a big problem and he comes out to fix it.
Hey man, I am under contract on my first self-serve car wash. I've got 5 bays and I want to switch over to tokens. What bill breaker do you have installed at your main street location? I am trying to find a rear loading one like yours
The ones I have are Rowe BC 1400. They were then when I got it but I just had to buy a new Mars kit and make sure the hoppers were the right size for my tokens. I ended up buying a few hoppers off ebay that work great.
They might but never tried it. Not worried about it as I havn’t noticed anything significantly different from week to week. Plus the tokens cost me about 20 cents and someone puts in $1 to get it so even if they take my tokens off property I still make money

That’s great you’re looking at such a young age. Good time to start. They’re basically worth how much they’re making. If you find a rundown or closed down wash you can get a lease to own the business without putting any money down and just pay rent. Otherwise a car wash open making good money could purchase anywhere from $100k up to $800k.
@@CarWashChronicles wow that’s good to know. Just looking at a couple and they are around 2-4m to buy will definitely look into leasing on and paying rent for first couple. Also what is the best business to buy soup in bulk like you do?
Yeah. It’s a whole nother ball game once ya get into the millions of dollars in sale price. I order my soap from kleen rite. I usually get a pallet delivered straight to my car wash. Usually takes 1-4 days to arrive.
