How to expand patterns (the right way) in Adobe Illustrator

  • This is how you turn a pattern into vector shapes in Illustrator without having any extra invisible shapes or clipping masks left over.
    I used Illustrator 2023 but this still should work on nearly any previous or future version of Illustrator.

    Wow! Thank you! This was not obvious at all. You think Adobe would have an option to flatten the grid to individual objects in a group!

    That was genius!! I've been spinning my wheels trying to figure out what was going on. The opt+cmd+7 is getting rid of the clipping?

      Yes I beleive so. If not, click on the object menu and under clipping mask there's an option to unclip everything

      on mac it's cmd + shift + G. Make sure you have the group selected
