I've taken apart a lot of abused little engines, but I have never seen a Honda piston look like that before. They must have run it without oil for a long time. It acted like it was seized to start with, then the oil Mitch added allowed it to spin, sans compression of course. Thanks Mitch, good on ya for sticking with it!

When you finally had it all put back together correctly with the timing chain, I said to myself "My god, PLEASE let this thing start for him already!" A goofy grin was on my face when it fired! Great job, bruddah, hope she's still purring around town!

It seems like it would be more than the scooter is worth.

Mitch, I'm a little late revisiting your video series but I just want to say that I appreciate your tact and straightforward rebuild. Though I do not have hearing issues, I find that many rebuild channels spend far to much time focusing on the proverbial "sound" of things instead of explaining what they're doing. Your perspective as a man who cannot hear is unique and your approach to diagnostics is very enlightening. Keep being awesome. :)
Wonderful video! Well edited too! I just dug out a Honda 80 elite I have out of a mower shed at my parents. It ran when I put it in there. That was 10 years ago. Just sent it to my father Inlaw. Mitch, you have incredible patience, as well as being a very knowledgeable engine mechanic. Thank you for posting these videos, they keep me interested in internal combustion engines.

Hi Mitch, watched your Elite 250 video, now watching this one. Love your patience/knowledge and passion for these 80s and 90s scooters. Bikes that you can actually work on and fix from home with just a few tools, unlike today's over-teched machines - oh how I miss the 80s/90s. Keep up the good work, dude.

And it gives the viewers a chance to learn from it. Love your patience, determination and motivation. Just a wonderful human being. You rock 🎉

The youtube algorithm took me here and I'm glad. My jaw dropped when I saw that piston, dang! I bring Honda's back to life too and I hate seeing them all in disrepair and with non-OEM fixes. great work staying with original OEM stuff. Nice catch on that float, I would not have seen that for sure!
I'm not into sooters so much, i'm more into cubs, but man, the way you try so hard and succeed it's gold. Especially when you made it running that put a smile to my face :D

Hi Mitch. I am new to the channel, came across you by accident. We all feel your pain with the Elite 80. A lot of content on you tube has too much talking but your hands and facial expressions say it all. Awesome job
This video was awesome. I work on cars and scooters (not professionally) and know that feeling all to well of having to do things twice. Great job sticking with it. Enjoy all of your videos. Thanks for teaching.
I really love this Guy, He’s very patient and has strong faith diagnosing the scooter. Watching other vids from his channel, It motivates me to repair and study my own Yamaha Mio Sporty. Keep up the good work men. Hopefully you can come here in the Philippines and purchase the no1 scooter in the Philippines. Yamaha Mio.
You remind me a lot of myself...Surfer / Mechanic. I did the same thing a few years ago... except it was an 84' Elite 250 with 3000 miles for $100. I had her running in less than 2 hours. Its a fantastic machine and now is part of my ever growing fleet. I sort of just "find" these things...or they "find" me I'm sure you know what I mean. Goon on ya mate... good luck with this one, I am certain you will have her running again shortly.
In rebuilds like this I usually just pull the engine and do it on a work bench. I even have a small fuel tank so I can start my motorcycle engine on the work bench before I go put them back in the frames. That way I know it's going to run. It's usually easier and faster to just replace all the gaskets at once. And always press your piston ins if they won't com out easy. Beating on them does bad things to you rod and bearings. Loved watching your persistance. Wish my grandsons were into scooters.
Just bought a 2004 elite 80 couple weeks back. I love it. Not incredible fast by any means, can touch 45 down a hill but just cruising at 35 is fine with me I love it. Same color as yours.
