This is a composite video authored by me, is about the famous killer whale named Luna, who lived alone in Nootka Sound. He made friends with people but more concerning with boats. Unfortunately this relationship ended his short life. But his story left behind a legacy about his species and why they are important. The southern resident killer whales are an endangered species living in the pacific northwest who rely on salmon as their food source. Salmon is at also at risk on the west coast due to pollution, over fishing and fish farms. We must do all we can to protect both salmon and endangered southern resident killer whales and Luna highlights this plight. If you care about killer whales and want to see them survive, then educate yourself more about their struggle and how you can make a difference.

Thanks for all the Luna footage, Orcagirl! I live in Texas and sadly, I hadn't heard Luna's story until after his death. I wish I could have seen him (or any wild orca for that matter) in real life! He was a beautiful boy and touched many lives I'm sure
Even though everybody knew he might get hurt or killed someday because of his friendliness, it was still a big shock to me when it happened. I miss running to the beach when someone would say they'd seen him and just missing him. I wish I would've seen him at least once. This video is a beautiful tribute. :)
This video never ceases to make my eyes water with saddness from such a life taken when it could have been stopped. Hats off to you Orcagirl for your passions.

lol i feel the same way, he sought human attention, I say it should have been given to him, just as long as it was say monitored that it wouldnt get out of hand if you know what I mean. All those marine biologists said avoiding him was best for him, yet they played with him all the time

I don't know anything about this story, just came across this film and it makes me feel that he was craving companionship to rub up against boats and forever trying to gt closer to the dog etc...he seems so so lonely..where was his family?
that's Luna he lost his family some time back in 1999-2000 his story is all over the internet just Google Luna the orca the story is so strange ....ended so sad.... and I feel the same way he was craving companionship because they usually live in family groups...😞
krazi kate Especially Resident Orcas. Luna being a Southern Resident from L Pod. J, K, and L Pods are very close. So close that, I'm surprised Luna was separated from the rest of the Pod.
Orcas are some of the only cetaceans that eat other marine mammals....

a wild Orca, L98, from southern resident L pod. He got lost with his family during traveling and end up being alone in Nooks sound. It happened long ago, if he were alive, he is 19 already, I love this beautiful boy, hope he rest in peace in heaven.

Even he was a kid at then, he never accidently drag anyone into water or so, not even accidently did once with the children, how dare they say he was a threat? ask those children who play with him...he never be harmful, not even once even when he was a kid and we usually believe a kid may be out of control when playing. Luna just did not do that, he survive alone for 4 years, he knows human cannot be in water for long, dragging people in has never been sight !

Sad how this whale was so deperately alone for so long. Should have been put back with it's pod immediately to at least give it a chance to integrate. Still pissed off over this as it's behaviour lead to it's demise

plent of people interacted with him throughout his whole life. for safety reasons, people were encouraged not to. if he was to live as a wild animal, the amout of human interaction needed to be minimalized... although as we see now, his fate amounted to his death.
