Shit, CNN used to be a real news agency. They were serious journalists and professionals from 1989-1999. This particular news item on Soundgarden isnt officially dated ,but they do mention that superunknown had just been released,so that puts the date at around 1st or 2nd week of March 1994. Back then, CNN was still taken seriously. Now theyre a joke.
They were the best group of that era and that is without a doubt overall there my favorite band and its because each member is technically gifted and I hear each instrument individualized in every song I love that and it's why I compare them to Zeppelin, Sabbath and the Beatles. It sucks that it had to end that way.... SOUNDGARDEN
Note how Led Zeppelin and Van Halen were still considered the standard bearers for hard rock/heavy metal, and how difficult it was to classify Soundgarden (most early critics pegged them as Led Zeppelin II wannabees). Of course, we kids knew and loved them, and the whole 90s rock music scene in Seattle, Minneapolis and everywhere else. The grownups didn't get it? What else is new?
Those guys were our age man. All those Seattle grunge bands were genX kids. We were all born from 1965-1975. We all grew up on tv. There was never a time when we didnt have tv. Our psrents only had radio when they were kids! I think that was a big part of why we loved thosr bands so much. Even so, there will always be only one Led Zeppelin though...
You’re talking really old obviously because this was just rock music. Yeah it was different then the 60’s 70’s and 80’s but it was still rock. Older people could’ve easily appreciated it. Those that didn’t were probably young in the 50’s or before. It’s not like these days where mainstream music is so different from the past and so horrible that even young people like myself hate it and obviously people 40+ as well. It’s pretty understandable these days to not get new music but back in the 90’s? There’d be no excuse
Superunknown was the album that completely changed my life. From when I first heard the CD in my CD Headset back in 1994 I said yep that's exactly what I want to do. Play Drums in a rock band for a living. I did end up playing in a signed metal band a toured the country but never was able to become successful enough to pay my bills. Oh well I've shared the stage as direct support for Deftones and Godsmack among many other famous bands and met them as well. So I'm happy with what I have accomplished. Would have never happened without Superunknown.
Since a child I’ve was taken with you, privileged to watch you evolve into a legend while I grew into an adult. We miss you so much, no one sings like you anymore.
I first heard this album in mid ‘95, I was 11 years old and it was the album that really got me to sit up and start paying serious attention. I’d been listening to a lot of Nirvana, which was predominantly these big, 4 chord, mid tempo anthems, but with Superunknown you had such massive variation - different tempos, weird time signatures, and tunings I didn’t even know existed. You had sludgy, messy songs and tight, punchy songs, and innovative phrasing all the way through. I had it on cassette tape and played it non-stop on my Walkman for months. It expanded my whole concept of what music was, and could be.
Shahril Iduan Soundgarden is a super awesome band but they aren't a "supergroup". A supergroup is a band consisting of musicians from more than one famous band, like for example supergroup Audioslave, has Chris from Soundgarden and the rest are from Rage Against the Machine. Supergroup Velvet Revolver, has Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots and the rest are from Guns N Roses. 😊
Yep-When you're that talented- ya just shouldn't give a FUCK about other ppls opinions! The MUSIC speaks for itself. Twenty yrs later & still kickin ass- beats the hell out of every band out there today! And holy shit, Chris is still FINE AS HELL!!!!
Dan But were Nevermind, Ten, Dirt, Angel Dust In Utero, Vs.,Siamese Dream(to mention a few) on CNN? Was Badmotorfinger on CNN? (I actually don't know). Those were good records too. And Soundgarden is not like U2 or Bon Jovi. I wouldn't be surprised if Bono was on the CNN, but Cornell? Were Cobain or Vedder, two of the spokesmen of the Generation X, on CNN? Has the CNN always interviewed this kind of artists? To me 1994 wasn't the good old days but the beggining of the end. Major labels had "hands all over" the punk-rock/alternative rock. The "G" word (grunge...I hate that label/word) was used massively labeling bands that had nothing to do with each other. Mudhoney was grunge, but so it was Smashing Pumpkins, Live or (I'm gonna be sick) Bush or worst, Silverchair(throwing up).I mean, even Spin Doctors and 4 Non Blondes were considered grunge. Even though MTV still had the 120 minutes and the Headbangers Ball most of the bands weren't alternative anymore, just disguised as alternative. Sub-Pop was on and after the dollar. Everything started to turn into a clichè (remember bands like Salad?). And Cornell was talking on the CNN. Anyway, I still love the 90's and 94 and 95 saw the release of some good real records, but the bands started to suffer the preassure and eventually breaking up the following years but to me the good old years were 1990-1993, not just for rock/metal music but also for other genres or bands, and basically for any form of art.
Grunge. There. I said it. And grunge is good. Call it grunge, call it Seattle punk, call it whatever the hell you want or give it a Prince-type sign and call it nothing. The only bands from this genre/era that matter to me are Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, and Stone Temple Pilots.
Dude was really tall, mostly legs. Gangly but fit guy, chick's fucking loved him. When I was a teenager in the 90s I wanted to be him sooooo fucking bad. Haha. He's probably in really low sitting chair.
CNN talking about music, good music at that?!? what world was this, and can i go back there?

Patrick C. McEvoy it’s not their fault the news is so ridiculous these days. Blame the world
The “grunge” scene was covered constantly during the 1990s on mainstream media, even Chris Cornell’s *haircut* was covered in Time Magazine.
@@patrickc.mcevoy2065 you used to not be a mind Kontrolled partisantard. Your perspective was different.
I remember walking into the record shop, walked straight in-in ` 94 and bought it.
Changed my life!
Superunknown ranks among those albums that kind of changed my life without really realising it at the time. Rest in peace Chris.
0:47 doesn't put that much importance into other peoples opinions…why I love you Chris!
"I don't put that much importance into other people's opinions" words to live by
Chris is straight up and raw, love and respect him!
Chris has ALWAYS been true to himself... always.
not really.
@Emily Wagner
He once told an interviewer he had no musical influences, which is obviously false.
Love everything about this great and beautiful person...RIP sweet prince =(
Soundgarden and Road Rash on the news, this shit needs to make a comeback.
RIP Chris, you are my hero

Road Rash, we played that all the time as a kid back in the day. Soundgarden had a couple of songs on it.
You are so missed and loved ♥️ R.I.P. Beautiful Keeper 🙏🏽🕊♥️🌹♥️

0:56-1:05 pretty much sums up my opinion on Nirvana and Nevermind.

Most modest band alive. Always like well we think we are ok but everyone else is saying we rock so whatever lol 😂😂😂
This vid led me to discover the marvellous song Jessie by Paw. I highly recommend :)
Are normally rock bands in CNN when they release a new record?
