Would love to do some trainspotting soon as the vlocity is coming to Albury/Wodonga, if I was to go transporting, I'd do so on the causeway but there is a massive outbreak. Luckily I filmed this in December 2020
What happens during the Border closure. Does the train terminate in Wodonga Used to love going down there as a kid. Albury yard were a huge operation then. Bogie exchange. Diesel changes for all trains going to Sydney. Trains originating in Albury in both directions.Now it’s gone just like it never existed.
From what i've heard, the trains terminate at Wodonga, I also believe that a coach replaces them between wodonga and albury, I plan on going to wodonga next thursday to see the shenanigans.
Albury station basically served as a checkpoint between NSW and Victoria, Hence the extremely looooong platform, some say that Albury platform is the longest in Australia.
Yes the yards were huge.The Spirit came in from Melbourne between 10 & 11 I think. There were 2 NSW trains in the platform. One was the Sydney Express InthinkOne had sleepers the other was mostly seating . My parents caught the 2nd one night in a sleeper compartment . It was winter a cold night & my Mum wasn’t looking forward to it . Turned out to be the best train trip she ever had. The train was not Air Conditioned but was really warm. Thick Blankets & comfortable beds . She Loved it. A relative of mine took me to see the diesels on the Turntable they would turn around more than six every afternoon for the night trains, iwas the kid but he loved it. . The turntable was still there but overgrown a few years ago but all the sheds are gone. The platform is the longest in the Southern Hemisphere.
Hopefully I can record a video at wodonga in the new year, Victoria has suddenly decided to close the borders to NSW, hopefully its just for a week or two and then back to normal, I want o get those N Class and XPT Before its gone, I'll even do another video at Albury as part of "Last Days of N class on the Albury Line"
