The engine is a year old. The 4-cylinder has been around for at least 10 years. Give it time for refinement. I want iStop permanently disabled on all Mazdas.
I enjoy your reviews as well as your informative industry news. I traded in my beloved CX-9 for a CX-70 Turbo S Premium in polymetal grey with the red interior and I actually look forward to driving this car every single day. It doesn't look or feel like an appliance the way most other cars in this class do. Your criticism regarding the iStop system is right on - I nearly always turn it off as soon as I start the car. The transmission can be clunky from a stop and I would like just a bit softer suspension tuning but otherwise, I absolutely love driving this thing and it looks beautiful - I never tire of just looking at the styling. By the way, I have been getting 30 mpg consistently on my highway drives (at speeds of 70-80 mph) and I average 26mpg overall. I don't do a lot of stop and go driving so that may be why my average is higher than yours. All in all, I am a true believer in Mazda's philosophy as it pertains to styling, build quality and driving dynamics. Nice to see your lovely family involved in your review here. Keep up the good work, Kirk. I appreciate your attention to detail without boring us by sounding like a brochure.
I did the same thing traded my 2016 cx9 for a poly Grey with red interior cx70 and couldn't be happy this car runs so smooth. I went from Pittsburgh to myrtle beach a couple of weeks ago and I averaged 27.5 on the trip. My cx9 would not get better than 23 on the same trip which I took many times
@@JaketheSnake-lz1pq. To give you more comfort on those MPG numbers, my 22 MDX Advance on a similar trip to yours would be lucky to achieve 24 MPGs. HIghway Only. Mix in City/ Suburban miles and that drops to maybe 19-20 MPGs overall.
The CX-70 is doa! It should have come to us shorter like it was originally supposed to. Mazda messed this up royally. This is just a CX-90 with a third row delete. They should have just called this that and given us the smaller CX-70.....you know, as the name suggests!
I drove top of the line CX-70 yesterday and it was amazing. Only thing that stopped me from buying it was the dealership is 200 miles away. We used to have a Mazda dealer, but they moved out about 5 years ago. Was going to cross shop it with a Grand Highlander but there is a stop sale on them. Not much confidence in Toyota lately.
Nice pragmatic Review Kirk. The family touches are great. I'm in a 22 MDX Advance on a lease extension until Feb 2025. Only 21K miles on the clock and the Buy out is $35,400 in Feb. My lease extension for 6 months form August 2024 is at the same $610 monthly. The Buyout drops to $35,400 from the current $38,500, so my pay lease rate is about 1.9% which was the lease rate when I leased it in August 2021. I am weighing my options of either Buying my MDX for $35,400 Plus Taxes Of Course; Leasing a new 25 MDX A-Spec Advance, or leasing a new 25 CX-70. The i-Stop function you described with Odd Feelings does concern me. The MDX's engine Auto Start/ stop is a bit abrupt when I just release the brake pedal just abit at a light too. But it deos not engage when nI am coasting to a Stop!. FWIW, I would opt for the Premium Plus Turbo S model. Love those HP and Torque Numbers which could be met by a MDX ,only in a Type S model which is $18K More !!
The CX-60 would've been way more compelling and a perfect size. However, I dislike the design of the entire CX-60/70/90 line anyways. The front end is "luxurious" but soft and generic. I highly prefer Mazda front ends to be sharp and aggressive like the Mazda 3 and well the CX-70/90 rear end is atrocious lol
I agree. I don’t why all the reviewer keep saying the 70 and 90 look good. The rear is fugly. Looks like person with a disproportionate head, like Megamind.
I bought a cx70 2 months ago the istop has a button to turn it off any time you want. The transmission was a little jerky for the first couple of weeks but it shifts smoothly now the ride is a little firm but the more I drive it the suspension is breaking in and the ride is getting better. This doesn't feel like a big car and is so much fun to drive my wife has a new crv and there's no comparison the cx70 is so much better in every way. The crv is a good car but the cx70 is a great car
Back in the day that much cargo space would have been normal. Station wagon/estate cars were designed to carry luggage from the train station to the estate. They can call it a crossover all day long, but this is just a modern rendition of a wagon. I wish my Subaru Outbacks would have had that much cargo space.
Funny you say that, we have a CX9 Mazda and when cousins would come visit us, we'd actually be left in the cargo compartment 😂memories, it was real fun, we'd play games and shit hah. I get it, not the most safe environment but eh we are alive so
Agreed. FL drivers are truly some of the WORST that I’ve ever witnessed. And I’ve lived half a dozen other states; no one is quite as rude or as bad as our FL drivers, unfortunately. It may be an AGE thing (mostly 55-85 year old drivers), or it may a drug or class thing (huge opioid epidemic here, currently). 😢. Either way, avoid driving or living in this God-forsaken place if at all possible.
Hey Kirk, thanks for having kids. Somehow certain portions of American society view kids as a major negative to their lives. How that can become socially acceptable as a theme is beyond me.
Some of us can't afford them and are responsible enough to not burden society with ppl we can't take care of. Personally, I don't view kids negatively but I choose not to have them bc it wouldn't be fair to them to have a life with less resources than I was provided. Not trying to attack your comment but it came across a little over generalized and insulting to those of us who choose not to have kids (for whatever reason). On a more positive note, thanks for an awesome video Kirk and you have a beautiful family. You are blessed❤😊
I recently test drove a cx70, the ride was way too firm for my taste. You felt every bump in the road, it almost felt truck like. Def not my idea of luxury ride.
Nice review. I would like to ask you regarding the air conditioning. How is it doing? I am thinking of buying a CX60 but wondering about the A/C knowing that I am owning a Honda car recently which is well known for its A/Cs.
Kirk, you had the dashboard in cruise control mode. if you press the cruise button again it goes back to normal mode with classic round rpm, tachometer, and fuel gauges (more spaciously laid out too).
I saw that interior in the dealer. Very nice and better than my friend's X3. I wish they had that color leather in the CX-50. Not a fan of the terracotta leather. Looks cheap.
If this had a Lexus badge on in, they would be priced at least $75K and they wouldn't be able to make enough of them especially if they came from the Tahara plant.
Zircon sand is terrible. Love Mazda but the cx70/90 appear roomier than they actually are on the interior. The ride quality is definitely more sporty vs luxury. I wouldn’t use it for family road trips.
