I am 23 years old and I tore my left Achilles when I was 16 years old and tore my right Achilles 19 years old. Both playing basketball. Doctor told me I have a higher change of tearing the other when I had the injury due to favoring the non injured foot prior to the second injury. This injury is more than physical pain. It was emotional draining since you have to take slow step to get into a full recovery. God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. Boogie and myself had similar stat line for our first game back from Achilles Injury. That’s why his story hits hard to my heart.
That's a good point about DeMarcus' age. The rehab he has access to in combination with how relatively young he still is, it was a good move by the Warriors to sign him since it's virtually a no-risk contract. It was also a good move for Cousins as well because he can still prove he's worth a max deal contract that he's seeking.
Msx contract?? No way... i wouldnt want that trssh for free if i own a team..no defense, cries alot.. bad ofense, he dont play his position and lazy as hell..
Thank you for your videos, and this one in particular. I also ruptured mine at the age of 23 playing college football. It completely transformed my life and my body. I went from a thin fast guy to a slow heavy guy. It took about 5 years before it felt “ok” again. The surgery caused me to have never hypersensitivity down the outside of my leg that still persists today 18 years later, although it has lessened significantly. The injury happened in 2001, I returned to playing football in 2008 and am still going at 40.
I tore my right Achilles playing pickup ball late 2017 at age 28. Ever since then, I’ve been so into all the RUclips material on the subject. Thank you for the content. It was short, straight to the point, and informative.
Achilles rupture gang member... Dedicated every moment to rehabbing and made it back to competition at 3 months 3 weeks and 2 days. 23rd will be 5 months and I’m back running, jumping and feeling back to my old self. SO, to anyone else who ruptures - recovery can be expedited based on your dedication to rehabilitating the achilles/calf muscle. Make it happen!
I ruptured my Achilles’ tendon on April, 27, 2018 playing competitive soccer (football) and I greatly appreciate this video! I’m only 22 years old which left me totally confused when I sustained this injury as I’m physically in good shape. It’s good to hear another person say this likely won’t affect me in a year or two. Gives me a lot of hope. Could you do a video on David Beckham’s Achilles rupture? That one was truly baffling
Hey mate, ruptured mine back in November 2016 also playing soccer here in Germany. Let it heal completely, do not rush anything but be sure to do your homeworks. I can confirm that you need 1-2 years to nearly get back to your old capabilities and its a long way, but you can do it. Just believe in yourself! I started feeling a lot better in summer 2018 pre-season workout, so yes...you need that time.
JJ Barrea Rudy Gay is another example of a player rupturing his achillis tendon and being able to remain in the NBA long enough to return to his physical form.
I absolutely love your channel. Medicine and sports are my two favorite topics! I’m currently a pre med student so I got a long way to go before I’m anywhere near where you are. You should totally consider making vids for us college/med school students for tips and advice to succeed! Like how to study efficiently, proper time management, etc. I know there’s many of those videos out there but the more the merrier and you got an awesome personality that we can all connect with :)
I really like your videos, I love sports and medicine always intrigued me. I love how you break it down so anyone can understand but not make it condescending. Also how you can tell you’re passionate about what you do and I’m so glad I found this channel. Keep up the good work.
Also I think you should do a video comparing acl tears and Achilles tears. even though it’s like apples and oranges, those are known to be the worst injuries you can get.
Only a matter of time before u blow up. I've been on RUclips for long enough to know you're definitely on the rise, and fast at that. Keep up the great videos. Great quality.
Great point about cousins age, I’d like to add that cousins game is not based on pure athleticism so his game won’t be affected as much as some one who’s a high flyer.
You should explain Gordon Hayward’s injury. I personally had a similar injury, I fractured my fibula and dislocated my foot playing baseball sliding back into 2nd base.
I know this may be a college team and a lot of people don't like his school, but can you talk about McKenzie Milton's leg injury, and go through on what made it a very severe injury?
I appreciate your love and knowledge for the human anatomy and sports. Could you do a "video series" on all of AI (Allen Iverson) injuries. He is one of the greatest athletes to play in the NBA in my opinion. Thanks bro keep up the awesome work!!!!
I know this might be outside of your area of interest but: would it be possible to do a video on Mario Götze the football (soccer) player's health struggles?
So what percentage do experts think he will return to? A lot of this is predicated the presumed weight loss. Elton Brand was similar in build and age when he tore his achilles and he returned to 100% after 8 months and 20 lbs weight cut. That said, back then they played him 35 minutes per game including back-to-back and his career was riddled w/ injuries thereafter.
Love your videos. So Interesting but straight to the point and not over explaining. I’m going to school pretty soon to be a P.E teacher. What classes do you suggest for me to take after my pre req classes
Hey man, great stuff! It would be great if you could run us through Porzingis injury, especially since he's 7'3 guy. Also, JJ Barea just got injured, but it might similar to this one...
Hey, great video!! I loved cousins on the Pels, but weirdly enough they're better without him. Maybe he'd do better being the man. I have a quick question for you, and I'm sure it's not super common on here considering it's sports based! I'm currently applying to university here in Canada, and my marks are great relatively, but not high enough to enter pre-med directly. I was thinking of doing a BSc in PT or OT and then applying into med from there. Do you think it's a good idea? Hope to hear from you soon and happy new year!

I ruptured my Achilles playing competitive soccer and I’m 22. If you land awkwardly enough it will snap “the rope”. Luckily young people can make basically full recoveries. Mine happened April 27, and I’m running just as fast as before, now I’m working on strengthening the muscle again for wear and tear, and trying to regain my “bounce”. I’m about 80-90% recovered and plan to play this upcoming season starting in May.
