subbed. really appreciate this take. as a 1975 fan, i find it very fair, reasonable, and objective (and a good analogy). especially appreciate the point of how they can (or, could, since it's "all over") encourage each other in their faults/weaknesses, because "having empathy or tolerance for flaws instead of running away or cancelling someone is called being an adult". couldn't say it better. the zero-tolerance culture we live in is honestly depressing. everything is taken to drastic extremes regarding details of people's lives who we don't even remotely know. anyway. great video.

i think that the main point everyone is missing with this whole thing is that fans are upset not because of who taylor dates but because of the fact that she's choosing to date someone as ignorant as he is. sure, he knows that the shit he says is wrong and he is in fact an attention seeker like the penis in the stall kid but the things he says have an impact on the communities that he harms by saying them so taylor fans that are part of those communities are rather conflicted because taylor swift is supposedly an ally to the communities that healy constantly harass. now, i personally have seen through taylor's performative activism for a long time now so the fact that she doesn't really care that much is not news to me, but while not everything he says or does relates to her directly it is true that who you hang out with says a lot about you? so sure you may not be a racist but the fact that you hang out with people who make racist "jokes" indicates that you're comfortable enough with those attitudes yk? and THAT is what strikes me as fucked. also your take on taylor representing the peak of capitalist success and her music somehow turning into a representation of that is very interesting to me i'd love to hear more about it!!

I think you miss the fact that Matty uses satire and irony to shine light on those issues and make the opposition (racist or anti-Semitic people) look as stupid as they really are. The part that does damage is when people take satire and irony out of context allowing them to be misinterpreted.
