The thing is, I don’t think that many of the men who accused women of witchcraft actually believed they were witches. It was a way of controlling women (and occasionally men) who didn’t fit into their extremely rigid lifestyle and what they viewed as normal. Omg! I’ve been waiting for this!! What a heartbreaking story of love and defying norms. When Evelyn stood up to her fathers saying the older lady isn’t a witch, maybes she’s got an illness, it shows that since she chooses to live authentically and be honest about her own interests and love, it allowed her to see the world from a perspective of love and reason and not so black and white like the rest do. @@KarmicSalt this isn't in the states. not the whole world is about you. If you even paid a little bit of attention you could hear that they speak british.
What to say about this triumph of a film that hasn't been said already? Once I began watching this I went all the way to the end, and I have to say that Miss Bella Ramsey has outdone herself with her performance as Evelyn. When I watched the scene where she was forced to watch as Mary died I felt like I was there too, suffering with her. Society back in those days were hideously misogynistic and homophobic - and now it seems that we're returning to the dark days that were so accurately portrayed in the film. It matters not who we choose to love - whether we be straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual (like me), or transgender - love knows nothing of gender and is the purest and strongest force of all, and there's nothing evil or sinful about it. To everyone who participated in REQUIEM: I thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this. You shone a beacon of light on a dark period of human history that we are in mortal danger of returning to and succeeded in delivering one powerful message. And I want to thank Miss Ramsey, too... she is a courageous girl and an example to strong girls and women everywhere.
bella and safia's job is impeccable, this gave me goosebumps. thank you for giving us the chance to watch it, i was waiting for it for quite some time now. this is in fact a horror story; it is frightening to think that things like this happened (and still do in some places). incredible job, everyone♥♥
Thanks the writers, director and producers for this. For every woman who could not be herself in this patriarchal world, for the ones who died as witches for being free and authentical for the epoch they've lived. Thanks the actresses for the beautiful and sensible job. As a lesbian woman, I felt I've been a little represented. This is a great short movie that has been made with detail and care. Thanks for it.
This film is so interesting... the acting is incredible. I really love how the minister displays such a variety of emotions for Evelyn... you can tell that he "cares" about Evelyn in a certain way, but his emotions are intensely complex. She outright admits to him in his face that she is in love with Mary, and he is enraged by this... when Mary has her "trial", which is basically just bs... he holds Evelyn tight and ensures that she watches Mary be burned. His facial expression is really interesting because his face shows shame for a certain amount of time as Evelyn turns around to look him in the eyes. She is conveying the utmost feeling of betrayal and hatred; he has become what she despises the most... whereas before she was maybe only terrified of him. He thought he was doing what was right... so why does he seem so ashamed during that moment? Maybe he was really just doing what he thought was best in order to "protect" Evelyn from the same fate as the other women that become accused of witchcraft. It maybe means he knows what they've done to Mary is wrong? Or would it only be a travesty if it was Evelyn that ended up in that situation? I find it a bit perplexing that his face is displaying shame given the context and time they're living in. Did he have a similar facial expression when they gave Agnes her "trial"? Also, why was Mary trialed and burned and not Evelyn? I mean I have a few solid guesses as to why that is, but clearly Evelyn felt a lot more apprehensive about her moves with Mary... contrarily, Mary didn't feel the need to be as careful perhaps as Evelyn... even though it appears Mary was in a riskier position than Evelyn. The minister even looks down in shame... like a submissive way? When Evelyn turns around to look him in the eyes after watching Mary be burned. Mary lives very presently from one moment to the next, and its like her character organically contains this specific wisdom that comes with living in the moment which is what living truly is... whereas Evelyn is very hyper-vigilant and pensive in all her fears (which she comes by honestly because I mean they were burning women at the stake for basically questioning anything).
The cinematography is giving THE WITCH and I'm here for it, great production. Bella's performance is fantastic as always. Love to see she's having more recognition✨

This short has got to be the most heartbreaking Alter short I’ve seen so far. And I’ve seen many. Tragic but beautiful that those two women were able to experience an unconditional love. I hated the ending. I wanted to cry and my heart literally broke into pieces. Great job 👏🏾 🙌🏾
And "Requiem" was perfectly established when they said "Amen" and set the whole building on fire at the end. Now on a personal level, this was heartbreaking..especially as a person who has been burnt twice...once fallen into a fireplace and one set on fire helping my dad with a car.
id rather not be apart of society that forces my children to live uncomfortably with its laws . my children can run free with joy , happiness and ill be their shield . very well written , incredible acting . im in the ending of the last of us , episode 8 waiting for the final 9. the young actress captures the heart of the viewer no matter her role, shes got a long career ahead of her .
This honestly didn't feel like 24 minutes. I know mention having a hard heartbreaking time with it because of the fire thing but it also hit me in the chords of "being a Christian" and all the darkness attached in with that history but also being that person who has gone on more spiritual quests and had some stuff that drew me right back to Christianity....so before I saw the building burn down I wondered if for a split second they had purged some bewitchery....because she was so calm and collected but as I said when I saw the building lit up I knew it was the perfect reason this film was called "Requiem".
Absolutely incredible; from the cinematography, the acting, music, landscape, all of it. Bravo and well done! Can't remember the last time a short film has struck such a heartbreaking yet awe inspiring cord with me. And, as someone who loves anything to do with, or relating to, the Salem Witch Trials, this is especially phenomenal as well 👏👏👏

@@OnionRing6000 Puritan women were expected to keep their hair covered throughout their entire lives (very common in many religions, as a woman’s hair is her “main beauty” and by covering it she is preserving that beauty for only God and her husband). But pulling off her cap and letting her hair free she is rejecting the religion and conventions that took away everything she loved.
This is truly beautifull. From the outstanding cinematography to the amazing script. What seems like a quite common wlw sotry, showing how people think somehow loving the person that you love is a sin, truly outstands in its category not gonna lie. Gosh, i cried. Literally cried because it WAS this bad before. I know this stuff still happens if not shunned and shamed. But back then, its so sad that most would scream witch and point fingers because they loved another woman or showed no interest in marrying. Some of the woman burned just found interest in herbs and wanted to be left alone. And still got burned because of them not following societal standards then. So damn sad..and this short film hit my heart so much. So so much.
And to add. I know there were MANY more reasons that there was fear mongering and jealousy, and so many other ways women would be pointed at and accused of being a witch. It's terribly sad.
I absolutely loved how this came out!!! Bella's acting for this was impeccable, I absolutely can't wait too see more of her in the future! Overall this film was beyond amazing and I love how much emotion was packed into the end.♥
A masterpiece. Truly. I don’t cry easily and It had me bawling. Beautiful, powerful and sophisticated. The camera angles, the lighting throughout, the acting and the dialogue all sublime. The shots of them in the grass reminded me of 1997’s Lolita in places where it’s just beautiful imagery. The film score is perfect. It made me feel so blessed to live in the times we do now, even though we still have a long way to go. I felt at times claustrophobic and was willing then not to get caught. Trying to come up with ways that they could be together. The cruelty of watching the end scene made me hold my breath, and I don’t think I released it until I saw the défient face at the end when she let her her down. I am blown away. The colour saturation gave the movie that brimstone feel all the way through and I could almost feel the heat, especially the ending shot. I wouldn’t have expected anything less, but it’s just so dam good. It’s imagery will stick with me for quite some time.

🙌🙌
So talented!! How can someone so small and young be so full of talent like she is. Her performances are always mind blowing.
Is she the same girl from the Last of Us?
@@SamuelBlack84 yes 😊
I don’t know her but I wonder why everybody is so excited about her. Yes, she did a good job but so all the other actors in this film.
wow that was really intense and heartbreaking, i loved every second of it. bella is beyond talented. congrats to everyone involved ❤️
this is the most heartbreaking story ive ever seen. bella does an amazing job. this has me in shambles.
i like how this is labelled as a horror movie. its not horror as in monsters or jumpscares or anything you would see in a traditional horror movie, but instead its the horrors of reality, loss, grief and those who are unable to live freely. this short sent me to tears and was beautifully crafted
Patriarchy and religion have indeed been horrors.
wow. that was one of the the most gut wrenching and soul crushing stories i have ever seen. bella’s acting is truly incredible. everything about this down to the heart twisting scream of mary’s name at the end has me emotional. this piece of media is so horrifically beautiful. i am so thankful to be growing up in a world where my love is accepted (for the most part). this is incredible!!
This was one of the most heart breaking shorts. Bella did amazing and I could actually feel the characters pain when Mary was on the stake. Such an amazing job to everyone who put it together. So sad that this most likely did happen to those who loved who they wanted to love back then.

This randomly popped up as a recommendation, but I’m glad it did! The cinematography is amazing, an amazing story and an amazing cast. Bella and Safia are a highlight but the whole cast is very, very talented!
While there were no "creatures" other than the monsters that held these "Witch Trials" it was terrifying enough, knowing this type of cruelty actually took place in real time. Humans are really the scariest beings on the planet...
bella's acting is so devastating. for a moment i forget this is just film, it all feels so real. they are such an amazing artist. my admiration for them knows no bounds
Can Bella please eventually play a character whose beloved girlfriend DOESN'T die tragically??
Yes! How about a romantic comedy with a happily ever after? We all respect her dramatic ability but she also has a mischievous side that might shine in comedy too.
This was amazing the acting the filming the dialogue, the entire thing was a masterpiece I definitely give it an 8/10 bravo Bella and all the other actors
P.s. Bella is going to be one of the next HUGE A list blockbuster action/horror/drama actress😤
Then give it a 10 out of 10? 8 out of 10 movies are NOT masterpieces. What's up with that score? You are contradicting yourself.

The idea that many are about to stumble on to this gem is such a good feeling to know. Serendipitous discovery, indeed. Bella is something special.
Short movie packed with emotions and of course royalty themselves Bella Ramsey! ❤ their incredibly moving talents makes me feel all the emotions. 🥺

this is incredibly shot and bella did such a great job at conveying the pain of losing the one you love in a time like that
I think I’m obsessed with Bella Ramsey since watching the last of us show, she is incredibly talented.
Isn't their pronoun they/them ?
She doesn't look like ellie bruv
Great to see this get its online release and so much well deserved attention quickly! Well done everyone!
Truly an amazing film, Bella and Safia really played these roles wonderfully. Had me sobbing.
bella and safia's job is impeccable, this gave me goosebumps. thank you for giving us the chance to watch it, i was waiting for it for quite some time now. this is in fact a horror story; it is frightening to think that things like this happened (and still do in some places). incredible job, everyone♥♥
Bella and Sofia’s acting in this was off the charts amazing
Thanks the writers, director and producers for this. For every woman who could not be herself in this patriarchal world, for the ones who died as witches for being free and authentical for the epoch they've lived. Thanks the actresses for the beautiful and sensible job. As a lesbian woman, I felt I've been a little represented. This is a great short movie that has been made with detail and care. Thanks for it.
this was absolutely amazing. every single actor did so well. great job on this
bella is insanely talented like they're slaying too much😭
This film is so interesting... the acting is incredible.

What a time to be alive, seriously. This era never ceases to fascinate me. Incredible sadness and still, so much hope. Well done!
This short has got to be the most heartbreaking Alter short I’ve seen so far. And I’ve seen many. Tragic but beautiful that those two women were able to experience an unconditional love. I hated the ending. I wanted to cry and my heart literally broke into pieces. Great job 👏🏾 🙌🏾
what can't she do at this point like..... she is SO talented
There is evil in that village, but it’s not witches. It’s fear.
And "Requiem" was perfectly established when they said "Amen" and set the whole building on fire at the end. Now on a personal level, this was heartbreaking..especially as a person who has been burnt twice...once fallen into a fireplace and one set on fire helping my dad with a car.
It's nice to see that Bella is also doing side projects which shows that she's really passionate about acting.
id rather not be apart of society that forces my children to live uncomfortably with its laws . my children can run free with joy , happiness and ill be their shield . very well written , incredible acting . im in the ending of the last of us , episode 8 waiting for the final 9. the young actress captures the heart of the viewer no matter her role, shes got a long career ahead of her .
Every day I am more and more amazed by Bella’s talent.
And, as someone who loves anything to do with, or relating to, the Salem Witch Trials, this is especially phenomenal as well 👏👏👏
Is no one gonna talk about how probably more than half of us would be burned at these trials-
as much as ppl want to hate them, bella will always be an incredible actress. im glad tlou was how i found out about them but i am sad to not have known about them sooner. ive just finished watching ‘catherine, called birdy’ and it is such a gorgeous movie, theres so much more to say but words cannot describe how much i adore that film. I genuinely hope Bella knows how talented they are, you can practically see the fire raging inside them that fuels their passionate acting. I hope for the best for them 🤍
Bella is so talented. They deserve an emmy for all these amazing performances she does, oh my god.
The motif of Evelyn taking her hair down is so interestingly done here. And overall, brilliant work!
Any idea on what it may mean?
@@OnionRing6000 Puritan women were expected to keep their hair covered throughout their entire lives (very common in many religions, as a woman’s hair is her “main beauty” and by covering it she is preserving that beauty for only God and her husband). But pulling off her cap and letting her hair free she is rejecting the religion and conventions that took away everything she loved.

This is truly beautifull. From the outstanding cinematography to the amazing script. What seems like a quite common wlw sotry, showing how people think somehow loving the person that you love is a sin, truly outstands in its category not gonna lie. This film had me hooked from the beggining to the end. It honestly made me shed a tear, not only by its heartbreaking story but its beautifull cinematography. And like come on BELLA ... An absolutely stunning film. Everyone involved should be incredibly proud of the work they created.
Excellent film. Bella really has such a talent for desperate, visceral screams that hit you right in the chest
This is amazing , and Bella Ramsay’s acting is just out of this world !!
It's terribly sad.
i’m super glad that this is getting so much attention
I absolutely loved how this came out!!! Bella's acting for this was impeccable, I absolutely can't wait too see more of her in the future! Overall this film was beyond amazing and I love how much emotion was packed into the end.♥
Over and under on the time it takes for Bella's first Oscar nomination? I say 22 months. What an amazing talent!!!

I think the father was amazing too.. a big and very believable emotional range in the short time he was on screen!
this film is literally devastating but so good 😭😭
A masterpiece.
