This series is, unequivocally and without any exaggeration whatsoever, the best thing Hodinkee has ever done since Talking Watches. Jack is a treasure. Never stop making these, please.
“You wouldn’t be here if you weren’t the sort of person who’s going to end up with both”. This is me, you, all of us… and deserves to be on Hodinkee merchandise.
Love the vibe this has for Hodinkee. It's changed the way I see the watch scene into a community that can also poke fun at itself, and not take everything so seriously. Great work, you guys!
Jack, that was pretty funny! Sometimes the watch community needs to laugh at itself. A bunch of tightly wound guys and gals memorizing nomenclature of anachronistic objects all need a bit of levity in our lives. Plus you always educate. You would have made an excellent professor in another life. I love this series!
My meteorite dial comes from Sweden ! Its called Muonionalusta. My dial has amazing patterns and Zelos did a great job acid etching them to give them a textured look.
In terms of technological advancements as far as movements go, I'm surprised very few people seem to talk about Spring Drive in Grand Seiko. It's such a fascinating piece of technology! Hopefully I'll own a snowflake one day...
Is it just me, or does Jack seem much more down to earth in these segments? I’ve always loved his work, but it’s refreshing to see him more relaxed and off the cuff.
I am loving this series and just want to repeat my dream watch TV show pitch: "Jack Forster Tours the Watch World" , an on-location watch show where Jack will pay a visit to Switzerland, Germany and Japan to explore the best, most beautiful and innovative watch brands, interview the people behind them and share his vast knowledge of horology with the world. I'd be happy with a RUclips show, but with the travel appeal, some great cinematography and Jack's charisma, I could honestly see this being a hit on Netflix that would get a lot of people excited about watches for the first time. Just my two cents, love your work, looking forward to the next one!
All Rolex watches blend the line of dress, casual, and sport so well that any Rolex can kind of be a one and done everyday watch. I just got an OP41 green and I’m happy if this is the only Rolex I ever end up with
Wonderful -a watch expert who doesn’t take watches too seriously! After all, this is a hobby and is supposed to be, you know, fun. Brilliant. Keep ‘em coming.
@@uropy something is wrong with all of us we are all watch nerds and spend stupid sums of money even on “affordable” or “entry level” watches. I think we all have a disorder
Frederique Constant Slimline Monolithic Manufacture, beating at 288,000 vph (40 hz). A very exciting recent development. Spring Drive, pretty exciting.
Functionally an Op can do everything the explorer can do as the first “explorer” was actually an Op that went up Everest but you can’t go wrong with either choice. Matters what dial and hands you prefer
Great show, Jack. The only issue I had was your dancing at the end :-). This was your perfect opportunity to perform a brush knee move so we could see your tai chi skills, and you blew it. Do that next time, please :-)
Enjoying these Q & A sessions. I have a question, what do people use to sync their watches time to? I'm sure not everyone is like myself and use the time on my microwave.
Just one point regarding the first question - unlike Jack, I think the Submariner is a bit 'more timeless' (if that's even a thing) than the OP39. The reason is because, for me, the OP39 looks a bit more like a victim of the large fashion watch trend that was popular when it came out. I think the OP36 is the most classic choice, but that's just me. The 39s are nice as well, and have a few special dial colors.
Meteorites come in three flavors: Stone, Iron and Stone-Iron... most wristwatch meteorite dials are sliced from an Iron meteorite, mostly cheap NWA-classified, once polished these Iron meteorites will show the Widmanstatten pattern, which can only be produced by millions of years cooling of the Asteroid it came from...
Hopefully it comes soon. I just got an Op 41 and I’m hoping they will call me in the future too. I gave the a kinda big list and told them for my next watch I’m not too picky I’d buy any of these I just want something different than what I have now
Say, Hodinkee, this escapement you are referring to already exists in the mechanical world. Frederique Constant has the monolith escapement to tickle your fancy. :) That said, I don't wear watches for looking at the exact time. I'm OK with an approximation of the time. So for me, the most relevant innovation would be the producer that manages to make gaskets, oils and movements to absolutely maximize the service interval. 25 years would be lovely.
Love seeing/hearing what I believe to be genuine. Jack, and voice over lady… I dig you… The dance moves however, that I’m not so sure… Stick to what you do best…😬
OP or Sub, both are timeless and can be a one watch collection. Sub is slighly more casual and sporty then the white dial OP, choose 1 that suits your style better!
Definitely can’t go wrong with either one. I just got an OP and if someone told me I had to sell it but I could get a sub even a Kermit I don’t think I could do it
Awesome point here. I saw one video on this but need to sit deeper and should probably talk about it on my own channels. I always liked them as a brand and 40hz is just insane
@@WatchUnwind hey, thanks for picking this up ☺️. I’d love a video on the topic form somebody who definitely is way more expert than myself. By the way, I’m not sure why HODINKEE states nothing has changed in horology. Well, I actually think 2021 has been a pretty exciting year. Another great example is the Calasys, the new movement from Vincent Calabrese. The guy is a genius and one of the most important living watchmakers on earth. His new movement ditches the Swiss lever, has close to zero friction. Nonetheless, nobody talks about it. Just wondering ☺️

The whole "Submariner" portion in the beginning highlights this and brings a smile to my face.
These videos are great! Just leaving a comment to feed the algorithm and help ensure Hodinkee and Jack make more

"tightly wound" hah!
A very knowledgeable guy who's also funny
This series is SO good. Well done, Hodinkee! Jack, you're hilarious. Great to see you bring your authentic flair here.

Love Jack being relaxed as well,,,great vibe
Excellent Jack and well delivered too!
I was captivated by the meteorite section. Can we get more on this please?
I love Jack. Jack, you are loved.
The answer to the first question was SO true!
Great video. Regarding which Rolex to get, it’s simple, whichever one is available to you.
100% everything Rolex does all blend the lines of sports, casual, and dress that they could all be timeless one watch collections
BEST HODINKEE VIDEOS!!!
Loved this segment!!! Great job Jack
This is a great series
Jack keeps surprising me every episode of Hey Hodinkee. 👍🏻👍🏻
Loving these videos!
I wish Jack had been my science teacher. I may not have flunked intermediate astronomy.
These videos are great. Finally some decent content from the big H
Loving this series! More! PLEASE!
Meteorite dials... cool! Thanks, great series.
"What's the last rolex you ever need?" More like what the last rolex you could buy at retail price.
The one with the shortest waitlist!
Agreed. "What's the last Rolex you'll ever need...and can hope to purchase, and then receive prior to your inevitable death?"😀

I wear a sub. But I don’t need it. If you NEED a Rolex or any luxury watch, something is seriously wrong with you.

Please make these longer, would love to see more Q&A per hit! Please
Very much enjoyed this
I love these videos 👏 Jack is the man!
Nice Q & A. I agree with the choice for the OP. It can fit almost any situation, more flexible than the sub. Personally I’d chose the Explorer 39mm.
Functionally an Op can do everything the explorer can do as the first “explorer” was actually an Op that went up Everest but you can’t go wrong with either choice. Matters what dial and hands you prefer
Great Video Jack! I’d go with the sub, you can’t go wrong with that.
BTW say hello to Ben & Paul.
You guys are amazing
This was great.
Long time viewer, first time commenter (on a Hodinkee video)
My GS SBGN005 has been +1 - +2 seconds a YEAR for the past two years. It is just magnificent.
If accuracy matters...and it DOES matter. BTW, hand finished - in house movement. Amazing compliment to my collection. I love it.
The tune / tone at 0:17 sounds like the old flick flak commercial.
6:57 anyone can tell me brand and model of this watch? So gorgeous
4:48 Best moment of the video. Moar, moar, moar Jack please!
That white OP39 is really something special
Love this series

Love it, more please
GREAT INTRO!!! 🤣😂
I think I'll remember that "Submariner" pronunciation and use it on Rolex snobs just to see their reaction.
Will try it at an AD and see what happens :-)
I truly miss this segment.
Top👌👌
Plse more of those short videos
Love this!!!
I love these videos so damn much.
Love your oats man. Well ✔
What do you think of Frederique Constant's Monolithic oscillator?
Now I need a watch with meteorite. Thanks Jack...

More of Jack dancing pls.

The HODINKEE app. Click on the top right icon 😉
Wouldn't Spring Drive be considered a noticeable enough jump fwd in movements or is GS perhaps not mainstream enough yet?

NO ONE NEEDS A ROLEX. Get with reality Hodinkee.
These Q&A’s videos are way too short. Like so Jack can see this

What book is Jack holding at the beginning of this clip?
I didn’t think I actually “needed” a Rolex as the title suggests. I guess I learned something today???
From spaaaaaaaace 🤣 those are fun. Keep it up Jack and team 👏
I came for the watches, but stayed for the song and dance.
I was going to like and subscribe, until I got the threat at the end about seeing more of Jack's dancing if I did that.
Anyone know what that bird in the background is called? I want one!
Is the same Namibian meteorite in expensive Rolex as well as in moonphase Schaumburg German watch for 5k?
Lol. I have the white OP39 and I’ve been hoping to get the call from my AD to buy the no date Sub for a year now.
Hopefully it comes soon. I just got an Op 41 and I’m hoping they will call me in the future too. I gave the a kinda big list and told them for my next watch I’m not too picky I’d buy any of these I just want something different than what I have now

Jack sings of 2001: A Space Odyssey, but that drinking bird takes me back on the Nostromo.
4:48 made me laugh so hard
Answer 1: how to say Grand Seiko without saying "Grand Seiko"
I petition for HODINKEE to do a giveaway to meet Jack Forester 😭
Jack as a Disney princess 🤔
I giggled far too much at that intro.
One big step forward is the monolithic oscillator by Frédérique Constant. 40hz, lever escapement and friction gone, fully mechanical.
Awesome point here. I saw one video on this but need to sit deeper and should probably talk about it on my own channels. I always liked them as a brand and 40hz is just insane

The last Rolex you'll ever need is a last gen 34mm Air King. Perfection.
Cool looking watch but to small for me personally
What is sadder than begging for validation by wearing a Rolex? Asking another person to choose which Rolex they would wear to validate themselves.
How high was jack on this episode? I enjoy high jack. Jack be high. High on watches. Keep it up high jack. :) lol
The last Rolex you’ll ever need- probably a diamond set 28mm Cellini, something like that? 😂
Yes
I’d start with the Op too simply because it’s discontinued in the white
Problem with Rolex is that you can't find any of their products. Call an authorized retailer, name your model, and get told "sorry." Rinse and repeat.
Great now I have to win the lottery and only buy meteorite dial watches. 😎😂
