Alright, let's do this... I'm really conflicted whether or not to call this the best Spade song. (going up against Fractured Reality which is my current favorite.) On one hand, the verses are pretty damn good, especially Spade's. The bars and writing are really fun and there's some good doubles, the best writing from a spade verse yet. But the performance leaves a lot to be desired. The writing tells me: "Imma beat your ass, then steal your bitch for fun." but the performance tells me: "It's nap time kids!😴". Also I feel like the concepts of "This the type of bitch I'm after." and "Imma beat your ass" aren't being juggled the best. I feel like the writing here is at it's best when it's focused on Todo beating the shit out of people. Maq has far better delivery, but the writing isn't as exciting (at least in the first half, it picks up in the last stanza). Also Maq's BG vocals aren't mixed the best so it feels to me like it muddies his vocal more than widens it. The hook in concept is catchy and solidly written and fun, the pre-chorus too. But in execution, there are way too many clashing dissonant notes in the harmonies for me to say I enjoyed the hook. I really wanted to get into it, but my band kid ears are screaming: "AAAAHHHH, THOSE AREN'T HARMONIES! YOU'RE JUST MISSING NOTES OR GETTING FUCKED BY AUTOTUNE" I think you just need to practice making good harmonies, and be a little bit more picky with yourself as to what you have in your final take. Harmonies are really tricky, just know that they still need work. And practice to improve, that's all you can really do. You see why I say it's tricky to put this song at one? All the ideas are there, and they are so close to be executed well, but it's also just a little unfocused and blurry in places. I'll put it above fractured reality, tenuously, because there's more objective problems with that song than this one, and just seeing your improvement has been fun in general. But I hope that something blows all of them out of the water in 2024. Good luck my friend.
