Just picked up 017 tube and it’s been a workhorse on several sessions already. Loving it

Your production was amazing! Ordered a Soyuz 017 FET recently after a recording session where the studio utilized their 017 FET for our voice over session. Wow. Blown away is all anyone could say including the studio recording engineer. Had to have one. Thank you for a fantastic production. Personally, hearing Mr. Ryan Hipps behind the mic gave me great pro reassurances. Our voices share the same family of baritone/bass/deep bass tonalities. Thank you again. Looking forward to enjoying more reviews on your channel. Subscribed.

Another awesome video that any RUclips reviewer testing mics should look at, thanks for this Ryan!

Color me impressed. The guitar and bass especially both manage to have some extra sauce without being excessive

Acoustic and bass cab blew me away! That is one great mic.
Nice angle , that a lot of other engineers on RUclips forget, is what to listen for and why. It’s not about copying presets and such, it’s about when to choose what. How to listen so you can choose from your own taste.
There’s a video of Fab from Puremix talking with Al Smith about the Tube-Tech Multiband Compressor, and what Al listens for when dialog it in on the 2-bus. Al’s answers leaves Fab knowing almost less.
Not on you channel. You understand the target audience’s needs. THANKS!

Awesome video man! I was looking at this mic pretty hard and may bite the bullet here in the next couple of days. I originally was eyeing the Bomblet but figured go big or go home. Sounds fantastic!

I often do shootouts next to other trusted mics - coincident pairs or even 3 mics in array. That really gives me a sense of what it does differently. I'm working on another video shootout of my newly acquired KM84i next to my trusty KM184s and SM81s. Love what you do, Ryan!

great video ryan. I appreciate all the good work you put into your videos! I really like the 017 FET in general; sounded really nice on drums, and i was surprised how much i liked it on guitar cab, although i'm not convinced i'd choose that over a royer 122. the top end wasn't harsh or bad at all, just very exposed. I've had the 017 tube for about 4 months now and i'm always so happy every time i used it. It's a very useable, colorful, musical, detailed, flattering mic.

Saw your video on the 017 Tube. Absolutely stellar and by far beat out the Manley in my opinion. The Manley is good but it’s personally a bit too on the bright and modern side for my personal tastes for a tube mic, the Soyuz just sounds so warm and well rounded but still has good clarity.

Thanks for the video. Trying to decide if it's ideal to use as a voiceover mic on my voice. Will need to investigate further.

Sounds great. Been wanting to pick up a pair of the 013 fets myself for acoustic guitar and possibly overhead.

Thanks Dark shadow, yeah really like the 013 Fets on acoustic but prefer the 013 tube on overhead. Actually the Omni caps are amazing and pry my fav if the room isn’t too live.

I realize just how far from your skills I am. But... I still try to stay up with you, so I can learn incrementally.
The mics sound great, of course... yet I’m not kidding myself in to thinking I have your abilities to know why. I do hear the overall smooth outcome of the voices mixed with each other, which I’m told can tell a lot about a mics strength in terms of not boosting, say highs or mids too much. I find personally, that magic area in the highest one third or so of a mic, to be super important in terms of what makes a great mic. Certain manufacturers know how to create that curve that makes everything open up for the human ear. It’s certainly not, usually... a flat line on the frequency chart that provides the best results, as one might think. For me, mics are very hard to pin down... and I now believe it’s because of the way our ears perceive the frequencies in the range in which we hear. So... I’ve gone from thinking I can look at a frequency chart and learn all I need to know about a mic (aside from its noise level)... to knowing... as my Son said to me... it’s not in the specs... it’s all about how it sounds. Which is funny if you realize he and I have had long discussions about musical feel, as apposed to musical theory... and which is most important to have more of. Ha ha!
He used to mostly come down on the side of theory... and I... feel. Look what has reversed when it comes to the mic issue! Funny really...
    Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the comment Chuc, yeah I actually never thought of the mics graph on this. I just figured it was kinda high around 1 or 2k. I think I caught a glimpse of it last week trying to find a link but wasn’t looking for it. I remember thinking that it wasn’t what I expected.

That VO sounded great! I'd have angled the mic down v slightly to avoid some of the direct mouth-y brightness and get a touch more throat and chest richness. JZ mics pop filter? They're quite special huh!

I am seraching for a rap mic (vocals). The typical, sth. like the C800g sound is kinda what I am going for. Doesnt't need to be a clone.
Would this be an option your recommend?

Can't compete U87AI at all. Su 017 is quite sharp at all ends.

Nope, I have both, the Soyuz is more balanced to my ears, 87ai sounds a little sterile in comparison but still great.
