16K on PROM - UNBELIEVABLE 🤯
And irresponsible, unless they got it like that. I would be more concerned with setting my child up for college or as an entrepreneur.
💯💯💯💯💯
And what was it even spent on, because apparently it wasn't this trashy dress....
Does she have a college fund????
That’s ridiculous
The dress is beautiful but I do think it's a bit risqué for a high school student.
Totally agree.
It's not actually her skin there's skin tone mesh you can see it on her thigh. I don't think it's risque when it's an illusion.
2007 prom was scandalous compared to this 😂 so to me, it's not risque.
This is nothing. I saw a dress the other day and the girl had basically cups and mesh on her tatas for a prom dress.
I went to prom in the 80s and it was all pouf and ruffles. Today’s dresses? My mom would have fainted. 😅
People can do whatever they want with their money. But it really shows what they value nowadays and it’s ridiculous regardless.
Why is it ridiculous?
@@sandra-jonesIt ridiculous because this is nothing but who can out do to get more views or end up on some talk show. These are teenagers and really teach these young females to have some modesty. And they wonder why there are so many predators out here stalking. Stop dressing up juveniles like grown street walkers.
@@Katzbynite so it's the fault of women that predators exist huh...
You're the type to ask a women what she was wearing when she was attacked...
It's ridiculous that you think women get attacked because of what they wear...
It's ridiculous that you think people should live their lives based on your ideals...
How many have you attacked because of what they were wearing...
No that's not the reason there are so many predators. Predators are born that way. And it doesn't matter what anyone wears. We should be able to walk around naked without being attacked, because men/women should be able to control themselves. All adults should be (barring illness) able to control themselves. I was SA in the military. The first thing i was asked was, what was i was wearing. Tshirt, jeans, hiking boots. A week later, i was forced to go to a social event, and the only top i had was a vneck sleeveless top, that i hated. I used a safetypin to close the neckline further up, and wore my bag strap across my chest, because i didn't want anyone looking down my top. Monday morning, i get hauled into my bosses office to be reprimanded for "not dressing as a victim, and not acting like one either". We can't win, and people like you make it so much worse, with your ignorant comments.@@Katzbynite
@@Katzbynite Predators exist. They don't need a reason. However, I agree that this sort of thing is done to outdo other people, which is particularly distasteful
I've said it before and I'll say it again. People spend money on prom as if they never expect their children to marry, graduate college, or purchase a home. High school shouldnt be the biggest celebration when they will likely have college, a wedding, or purchase a home later. (No, this doesn't apply to everyone but I wouldn't spend college tuition, a down-payment on a home, or wedding money on a one day event full of nicely dressed teenagers.)
This!! I just spent over $10k cash between my two kids medical and dental needs this year that will allow them to lead happy healthy lives going forward. There will be more important, more impactful expenses that a person will need to provide for their kids in their lifetimes. Its important to have the right priorities so you can show up for your kids when it really matters. ❤
Hopefully these kids are graduating, sometimes folks show out for Proms only to find out a diploma will not be received.
I agree
People treat prom like the Met Gala lol😅
*she looks in her thirties with that dress*
I don’t have daughters but with this trend spreading I feel bad for all those girls whose parents can’t afford this level of s**t. No wonder many end up being scammed by cheap dresses sold online with stolen photos that misrepresent what is being shipped.
If my son were to show up at her door, he wouldn't know where to put his eyes! He was raised in a conservative home and his four sisters sure didn't go to prom with the entire length of their body exposed! There are so many beautiful dresses that are more modest for a 16-18 year old. And as far as it being a wedding dress? I didn't know it was meant to be a wedding dress until you said something about it! I imagine it hasn't been worn to many church weddings. 😂
If I had that kind of money, I wouldn’t have used it on prom.
Imagine having this kind of money when you can use it on prom without even noticing you spent anything.
That dress is not for a teenager. Period. It's beautiful but not for the really young
Yeah I think the prom is so weird, to me they are children aged so all these dresses make them look like they are trying to be 30. At least cover the sides and underboob. And sexy weddingdresses I also find weird but at least they are adults making those choices.
@@Iflie For prom in the US aren’t most people going to be 18 though? The very revealing prom dress trend makes a tiny bit of sense to me if that’s the case since they’d be considered adults. Not that I’m a big fan lol
Is it senior prom?
apparently it is!
@@Sunny-kt1ni Google says 17-18 but they also have junior prom which I think is a year younger and you can sometime invite people from a younger grade.
I don't think the 17 year olds would pick different dresses from the 18 year olds but the parents seem to be really permissive and paying for it either way these days.
I'm dutch and we did have a prom but you don't really bring a date and no one was showing much boob at all, classmates wouldn't really be the ones you'd want to show that much too, I mean you see them too much every day to think of them that way.
To revealing for a prom or wedding dress, more for a Red carpet event and not a teenager.
Maybe for a wedding where you're looking for your next husband at the reception?
I could personally definitely see some women wearing that for their wedding but definitely not loving the fact that she’s a high schooler/teenager and it’s for prom.
So brides aren’t supposed to be sexy huh?
@@TheOriginalScorpioBelle : I think that weddings tend to be family events, and the rule generally is you can emphasize your boobs or your legs, but not both. And certainly not your stomach.
@thebumpercar1344 I have a theory called The Conservation of Fabric (I may have stolen the premise from physics). When a dress has long sleeves, expect either a low neckline or backless. Strapless? Expect a higher neckline and back. This one has one long sleeve, glove, and half of a massive collar. Of course it's going to be missing some important fabric. 😆
Too much exposure. She wouldn't have been allowed in the door at my prom.
Same and I went to a Catholic high school
You must not have seen what some of the dresses look like at prom now. Apparently there is no dress code at a lot of schools. It’s awful.
My high school didn’t play that either, but I don’t know what they are doing now a days.
Same
😂😂😂
The crazy thing is the dress wasn’t the most expensive thing. She is setting this child up for a world of hurt. I hope she knows that what her mother did is not normal for *most* people.
Yes!! I've never spoiled my 4 girls. I made every prom, hoco, graduation, dance, wt ever dress! And told them the whole way, the world does not give a damn about your feelings, no one is going to feel sorry for you and they are never going to GIVE you anything! It is hard out there, Momma and Daddy will be the only ones who care on that level.
I think it’s unfair to judge this mother and child entire interaction based on the prom cost. From the clip, the mother wanted to do this because she didn’t attend her own prom. The child seems very understanding and grateful
@@kimberlysspiceykay4606 let's be real, the mother wouldn't have been allowed to wear a dress like that in her prom. There are plenty of beautiful dresses that are more age appropriate. If she still wants to spend that much money, that's fine, but it's also giving off living through your children mentality, which has been proven time and time again to be damaging to children.
@@fanime1 I wouldn’t think it would have been allowed but I have seen a lot of dresses lately that seem to be allowed now. I would say living through your kids isn’t healthy but I feel like this was the only time she has done it so that’s not bad but if you did other things besides this then it would be an issue
Hope other girls don't expect this from regular parents. Nah star, you better start working in 9th grade and save every penny if you think that's coming out my pocket for your prom. 😂😂😂😂
As a girl, I LOVED big girl stuff, make-up, heels, jewelry and such, but my Mama wouldn't allow it-Not until I was 16. When I was about 10 or 12, I really wanted some heels, but she wouldn't budge. I asked her why and her response was, "You need something to look forward to." For some reason I got that, and I don't think I ever asked for those things again until it was time. As a middle aged woman, I am so appreciative of that stand and stance. She gave me the gift of anticipation and appreciation, and I think that has led to my ability to really enjoy and relish life, and I will be forever grateful. I am concerned that most young people don't get this gift because some parents can't or won't say 'no' or 'wait' OR they just don't understand the importance of the word 'wait', so many young people get burned on life at a very young age- Always looking for the next "high". How does this parent beat this?
Wise Mother
So much wisdom in what you wrote.
My mom and grandmother taught us all the same lesson. It's one I have carried on with my own children.
I had the same thing. For me, it was wearing makeup and earrings, although the earrings I earned when I was 12. I think being able to earn the earrings when I would have had to wait another 4 years was a really good thing. It made me feel like the work I had done was appreciated and that there was a point to still trying and not just waiting idly for life to happen
@@ms.n4878 My Mother told me the same thing and I appreciated it at all of life's milestones.
I would be SHOCKED to see this on a bride. I think it is too risqué for a high school girl as well.
On the model it's stunning. As a prom dress for a highschool girl, I'm not feeling it, it's giving wedding more than it is prom.
The whole thing is ridiculous for a girl whose only accomplishment is that she just finished high school.
It didn’t say she finished high school
Prom is before graduation
I saw someone on another of these videos comparing it to a wedding and how important it is. What a load of bovine manure.
I don’t understand it at all. They are high school kids, not attending a top tier event. The dress itself is inappropriate for prom or wedding. I know there are “influencers” who make a lot of money and they are usually young and want the newest extravagant shiny thing instead of practical investments but they may look back and regret it when they are ready to settle into adulthood.
She’s a junior so imagine her senior year prom next year
I had 1000 budget. Dress was 120 I bought matching purse, crystal shoes, makeup done professional, strapless bra, crystal for hair and hair and nails, after party, 2 hr midnight cruise on private yacht with buffet, specialty virgin drinks, cameras, prom portraits on site at Sheraton and on dock in Norfolk, VA. What year was that?! I think prices may have gone up a bit.....
@@kray3883yes I’m curious about how long ago that was too. My granddaughter just went to prom. Her dress was only 350, but with alterations, hair, nails, makeup, shoes, jewelry, flowers and splitting a limo with her friends, it cost about $1000. No extras like a fancy dinner.

I don't care how much money I had, a daughter that lived under my roof would not own, much less wear out in public, a dress like that. And 16K for a prom? No.

I would absolutely spend $16K on my daughter for a prom if I could afford it. Out the window now. Don't want to discriminate or offend anymore.
Y'know, I went to prom 2004 - 2007 and I don't actually remember there being any set-in-stone rules. One of my friends wore a belly dancer outfit as her dress, though she did bring a poncho with her in case she got in trouble. But nobody stopped her.
That being said, I think she was the only one showing much skin, so maybe it just hadn't crossed their minds that anybody would want to?
@keltzy I went to prom in 2007. In my school, the rules were the skirts couldn't be too short (no showing the buttocks), no cleavage, and no showing the belly or back.

My twin and I made our own dresses for our Junior and Senior proms. Before you think we looked tacky, we were the best-dressed there, and for a fraction of the price. The secret is the fabric selected. One girl at our senior prom looked at her own dress, which was the identical pattern we had used and she was shocked. “Mine doesn’t look like YOURS!” she said.

i think the 'wedding dress' trend is happening because kids are looking at us adults thinking "is this all there is (to life)?" and are like 'eff it, we ball' for prom. they can clearly see that this is the peak for many USians and want to go all out.
however, i'd pay per my income. if I was a millionaire, 16 would be nothing. but I if I take a zero away from my income, i'd take it a way from the budget. 1600 in total is even doing a lot but if the kid works to help pay for it, sure. (i'm sending mine off to the prom tomorrow.)
If that is the mindset then clearly education and parenting have failed. Grandmas are in their 30s and 40s. Parents living vicariously through their children! No guidance but only " look at me, look at me". Proms are a joke and always have been. You see these people all semester, majority don't get along yet going to a prom to dance, get drunk, wreck cars, molly people or eek out some revenge. I was confused until I watched the video a second time because I thought the prom dress was $16,000 and that the same woman’s wedding dress was only $1300 (I rewatched the video because I never saw a second dress) - but it was “only” $1300, which I don’t think is outrageous for a prom dress. Expensive? Yes. Outrageous? No.
My prom was in 2003, and my dress was just under $600 (can’t remember if that included alterations, though). Adjusted for inflation, that would be $1025 today. In 2013, my mom bought me a wedding dress by Allure Bridal for ~$900 ($1212 in today’s money). While it didn’t have the slit or neck detail, the vibe and silhouette was somewhat similar. I never got married, but I hope to do something with the dress someday because I still love it so much to this very day (and I’m much happier without the fiancé lmao).
I would have worn a dress like this to prom; it’s certainly more fun than what I wore myself. Heck, I would *definitely* wear her dress TODAY, and I’m about to turn 40. My opinion? I personally think that seeing this young woman in a dress that almost completely covers her entire body except one arm and one leg as “too revealing” is se*ual objectification - people are free to disagree, and I am not trying to change anyone’s opinion here. I’m just sharing mine :-)
Now, what IS absolutely bonkers to me is spending that other $14,700 on prom!! I see an exotic car in one photo that explains some of it, and I assume there were hotel accommodations, hair/makeup, etc…but I would personally have budgeted no more than 1-2x the cost of the dress for everything else. I don’t think I’d want to spend anywhere near $15k on a wedding, which is why I would rather put that money towards a house or honeymoon and just elope! My only exception to that rule would be photography and videography, which can certainly get pricey.
It would be very interesting to see what her wedding dress looks like in the future, if she even wants to get married and finds someone worthy. I know that I would be low key disappointed if my mom spent more on prom than on my wedding!
My apologies.. my description said 16K for her prom dress but it was for the whole of prom which was aluded to in the video. The video on Tamron Hall Show gives the breakdown
@@MondesThreads that’s no worries! I guess I was expecting something more scandalous 😂 I mean, spending $16k on all of prom IS perhaps scandalous, but not what was spent on the dress! I’ll have to check out the full video if I can find it.
I have no words. But I love your talent.
Listen people, even if you can afford this dress, you have to take into consideration the dress on the right body. You have to have the body to wear it. And, she might be thin but still doesn't have the body for it. Look at the model, now it looks fabulous on the model.
Total waste of money to just wear it for 1 night. Would have been better to save that money for her studies or future wedding. It's also way too revealing for anyone, much less a minor! Do schools not have dress codes anymore?? Idk how any parent can let their daughter out practically naked. Teach your daughters self-respect and modesty!
I agree the dress could be worn once or if they pushed it twice . It is so unique that it is very recognizable. I think girls should wear cocktail dresses for prom instead of these over the top dresses.
Oh come on. While I agree it's ridiculous to pay that much for a prom dress and it's not an appropriate style for a high school dance, she's far from "practically naked". Everything that needs to be covered, is covered, the dress is just designed to make it look like maybe it isn't due to the full length slit. No one would blink twice if a celeb wore this on the red carpet which is where something like this is suited to. The mother/daughter were probably just trying to show off their money in front of others for attention, which I think is a far worse lesson for the daughter to be learning.
@Jsa460 that full slit is still showing private areas. It isn't full on, but it isn't far from it. Also, I'm not sure how she moves, much less dances, in that dress for prom without suffering a wardrobe malfunction. Just because celebrities wear practically nothing for award shows doesn't mean it isn't immodest.
The girl looked beautiful!
What I noticed right off is that you can see the mesh on the prom girls thigh, but you can't see it on the product video. I suppose they could have edited that out but it just doesn't look like the mesh is there. I thought that was kind of weird. Not great advertising in that case because obviously there was some mesh that had to end somewhere on the thigh. Also thought the shoulder looked a little different in the prom picture. I think it looks like a very cleverly designed dress but at the same time I agree with your other commenters that it doesn't really look like a prom dress. More like red carpet or possibly wedding/reception dress or something like that. For a person older than a high school student. They were really strict at my prom and I just went to a regular public school. That would not have been allowed but that was a while ago. She did look really beautiful. I'm wondering what the rest of the money went towards?
The prom dress definitely looks like a dupe. It's not the same. Even the shoulder piece looks a bit different.
I read that the shoes were $4500. I could see how everything added up to 16k once I saw that.
@@brianlinger4653the shoes were more expensive than the dress? Wow.
The dress itself, I love. I'm glad some commenters noticed mesh extending to the thigh, because I was wondering how it would be allowed for prom.
Wedding dresses as prom dress? I think its a great idea, especially if the child prefers those styles. I'd miss the chance of color, but that's me searching for any excuse to wear bright ass pink.
As for 16k for prom? The only time I could imagine that is if I were filthy rich and covering the costs for my child, their close friends, and those students who couldnt afford it.
This is going back to the 1980’s. I lot of girls I went to school with had wedding dresses made for prom. History repeats. It’s a beautiful Dress
Y'all realize a lot of theses "child" are already 18 by prom
The girl looks absolutely stunning! ❤ It's just not what I'd want my little girl to wear, as as long as you're still under 18, you're a kid, and being a bit protected from the worst of things is best ❤
My 17yo went an found a dress on one of those sites you tell us about. It was fairly similar to what she ordered. The sleeves were horrendous and the appliqué weren’t the same. So we took the sleeves off. She was covered every place else and people loved the dress. I was happy that we didn’t have to tell her to look for something else.
My prom dress came off the rack at Ross on sale for $14 back 2012
$16k on prom?!?!? That could've gone to her college fund!!
I wouldn’t worry, her college is probably already paid for too. Most people with money start planning for their kid’s college when they are born & invest for it. By the time the kid is ready for college it’s paid for 10x over.
Way better prom dress than wedding dress, tbh. Super cute though! And super reasonably priced for the quality.
Her mom be cray for spending that much money on a prom... But if their family can comfortably afford it, go off then, queen. Can you adopt me, tho??? 🤷🏿♀️
I helped my neighbor’s daughter go to prom. We thrifted everything that she wore and I did the alterations that were needed. They didn’t require kids to go as boy/girl couples, so she could go with a friend and just have fun. Had that been encouraged as an option when I was a teen, I might have attended.
As Long as the family was pleased and happy that's a experience that she will never forget. That was a pression moment and I'm happy for them. May they have many more special moment like this prom.
16,000 on a dam prom.. Hell to the naw naw naw...
What I don't understand, is why are these schools allowing these young ladies wear these type of dresses
I agree. It's too much.
This dress is more suitable to the Met Gala than a high school prom.
The video I saw before this one was about someone who graduated top of his class whilst living in a homeless shelter.
What a country.
I mean, it's their money so its their business! I just feel bad for all of the young ladies that won't even be able to buy a prom dress at all. If it were my money, i think I'd spend some of it trying to help mame sure other, less fortunate girls got a dress & hair & makeup!
I chaperoned my son’s prom, after an hour. All the dresses looked the same, it wasn’t a big deal. It’s really about the photos, the entrance, and the attention. Oh yeah and the date😂
Feels like the last stop and no further accomplishments are expected.
Nah Turkey is a lot cheaper than most places in Europe. Here in the UK or in France that dress would be at least 5 to 6k.
This is why we're all flocking to Turkey to buy our wedding dresses and get plastic surgery. Services are amazing and top-notch, too! 👌🏾
Appalling for a high school aged girl. I wouldn't wear it at a wedding either. $16,000? I hope that family also gives A LOT to charity. I don't mind people wearing a "wedding" dress to a formal event, as long as you don't look like a bride. So many high schools in my area (Northeast) have Prom Closets. Girls donate their dresses to the Prom Closet, for kids to use the following year. I first heard of it about 15 years ago and each year the inventory gets bigger and bigger. Many families, even those who don't have to live on a budget, use these dresses.
If I had this kind of money nobody would know what I spent because I have it like that lol, let the look speak for itself.
Just because you have a lot of money, doesn't mean you have sense, or class, or taste.
I’d probs get a massively custom historical dress 😂
Now that would be worth it for sure.
In my opinion, although prom can be a special night, I would’ve place that money aside to kickstart my baby girl’s future. Not all kids want to go to school but perhaps starting a business or putting it towards investments. That money could’ve been used to set this girl up for a bright future💯
Hopefully, there's a *COLLEGE FUND,* to go along with the *_$16,000 PROM._*
I will probably never have that much spare money to spend in my lifetime. 😭
Don't think like that, please.
@@user-bo1rj2xu2s Why? 16k quite a bit of money to have "spare" to spend on things you want rather than particularly need. Even if you get more financial in the future is pays to continue to think this way so you don't waste it all and end up with nothing.
I wore white to my prom back in 1988 and it did look wedding-ish but it was beautiful kind of like royal not risqué, but she looks beautiful in that dress. 16K is over the top for prom, but if the mom has it like that then it's their choice to spend it.
The dress is beautiful and reasonably priced! More importantly she wears it well, comfortably and confidently. Would I personally pay $16k for Prom, no. But that’s not my tax bracket and thus not my business 😭
In Turkey they'll sell those dresses for that price but you usually have to but a 5 pack, meaning you'll get 5 dresses and the price is PER dress so that would be $1300 x5. But, she could always sell the other dresses here and maker her money back and then some.
It’s pretty. It’s not my cup of tea for a wedding but to each their own. It’s a bit risqué for prom but again, doesn’t affect me. She looks great.
Prom expectations for teens these days have turned into met gala, Grammy, red carpet reveals… she looks beautiful. If I had 16k tho, it’d be put into a fund for my baby’s college tuition or a car or save it in a money market account until they’re ready to make a down payment on a home, etc. so many ways to use that 16k to set up for success.
