@@thomtlc2 Exactly! Elvis said that about Roy in New York when he did a concert in Madison Square Garden june 10 1972. Now Elvis said that because he was very humble, he never saw himself as a good singer, he also said once that even Fats Domino is better than him. Elvis and Roy were also very very good friends, Roy was often guest at Graceland. It is even so that Roy first wanted to give Only the Lonely to Elvis and he stood at the gates of graceland ringing the bell but Elvis did not open because he was sleeping. Then he went to the Everly Brothers but they had already a record and were not interested in Only the Lonely and so Roy recorded then by hiimself; For me Elvis and Roy are the best singers ever, Roy in the style of heartaches but Elvis because he could sing everything, rock, blues, country, gospel, soul, even opera.

    Lyrics
    Only the lonely
Know the way I feel tonight
    Only the lonely
    Know this feeling ain't right
    There goes my baby
    There goes my heart
    They're gone forever
    So far apart
    But only the lonely
    Know why I cry
    Only the lonely
    Only the lonely
    Only the lonely
Know the heartaches I've been through
    Only the lonely
Know I've cried and cried for you
    Maybe tomorrow
    A new romance
    No more sorrow
    But that's the chance
    You got to take
    If you lonely heart breaks
    Only the lonely
    Only the lonely
    Only the lonely

The year is was born & my Dad use to sing this song. Roy was filled with a Magical energy. ;-) Roy was a real Super Star in every sense. Super calm, yet explosive with effect on the entire audience. His feel in his delivery is totally magical. It is the wanting in the songs he wrote that was the actual magic. Others that have covered his song were not able to capture his magic. My students request to learn this song and I help them with the song being set to their range into their best key. I give them the chords in their best key.I work with them on the melody, but it is up to the student to get the "magic" of this song to really deliver the "feel" to their own audience. Thanks for posting this video.
