I just found this song a couple of days ago and it is amazing. I’m 13 and this just shows that no matter what age you are, Roy Orbison is still amazing.
I'm 70 and when I was 14 got turned on to Roy Orbison and Willie Nelson on the same day by an older cousin who I looked up to. I saw Roy live twice and Willie five times and still have the ticket stubs.

Elvis and Roy were also very very good friends, Roy was often guest at Graceland. It is even so that Roy first wanted to give Only the Lonely to Elvis and he stood at the gates of graceland ringing the bell but Elvis did not open because he was sleeping. The audience is respecting Orbison's voice. Why would you want to scream, clap or make noise when those pipes are hummin'? You would want to hear it all!
Roy Orbison is absolutely ethereal. His voice is wispy, like a ghost reaching out across the radio frequencies to shake your very soul. The sound of a man possessed by the very spirit of loneliness. Rest easy, Roy.
Dear Mitzi....God bless you....it went bad because people have no respect anymore for others and they don't have that true love....they lack compassion, love,empathy....Too many evil people in the film and music industries promoting lust/hate/violence....Selfish attitudes...

OMG! I have loved this song and this man for 50 years. Yeah, I'm that old. I don't care. So many people didn't make it. Miss you, Roy. One of the last of the GREAT!
In high school in 62 the girls used to Swoon over Elvis Presley. They couldn't believe I loved Roy orbison's singing. I am so glad he got the recognition in his later years that he so deserved.
My cousin Phyllis and I listened to this song on the radio at our grandma's house and I remember her saying, "only baloney." I always think of that when I hear this song.
Never be another Roy. He was one in a million. I have been a fan since 9 years old and fancied him. Had a teacher called Roy Osborne he was a spitting image of Roy. I was in love. Always loved older men since then. With a man 23 years older than me right now but Roy Orbison a Legend!! He's in Heaven now an Angel entertaining our loved ones with his beautiful unique voice. ❤❤❤❤
I was a Senior in High School when that concert took place. Graduated and 6 days later on my way to basic training. He was a one of a kind. He has a son that sounds just like him ( Younger son, the two oldest died in a house fire ).
I'm sure a lot of current and future vocal artists will watch this in search of hearing the master of this great song performing this classic.. We are gifted through technology to see it, love it and revere it! This song and performance by Roy captures the essence of his greatness.. just a great video for all time!

Only the lonely 14 year olds from 1965, who played this song over and over on their little box record players will understand the bond we had with Roy Orbison....this song and Blue Bayou can bring me back to those bitter sweet days when Neil Sedaka told us "Breaking Up Was Hard to Do."..and, well, they just don't make songs like this anymore.
Hey Colin - ¡Sí si si señor! Trust you ignore those thumbs-downers, who likely get their kicks from abusing children and animals. Roy O. was truly great. Have you seen 1988 video/PBS program 'Black and White Night' with young kd lang, Bonnie Raitt & Jennifer Warnes singing back-up, Bruce Springsteen & Elvis Costello on guitar, & other greats? A once-in-a-lifetime gig.
Just one of his many great songs...i grew up in the 50s and 60s listening to his music and have all his songs on cds...hours of great memories from my youth...too much of modern music has no soul...his music had soul in spades.
How lucky we have been all the brilliant singers male and female and talented musicians put the thumbs up to them all and be grateful we have been blessed to hear their efforts
I love roy, im 15 and i know that liking this type of music doesnt make me special, but i wish contemporary artists played this type of music, please if you know any, recommend them, thanks :)
No autotune, No in ear monitor. No over-processed reverb. Straight and unadulterated talent. Raw ability that is lacking with the drivel that is being blasted over the airwaves today.
Greatest voice ever!!!!!! Heart breaking tunes reflecting his families life story.I have read a number of musicians articles, he had a 4 octave range. 3 octaves is amazing. He was so smooth with a sad voice. Listen to Roy and K.D. Lang. One of the greatest duo's ever.
I don’t know about anyone else, but when I hear Roy, I immediately begin singing along and move to the music. Yet the audience here does not budge until the song is finished. Perhaps it was considered rude to do so at the time.

He sang it right because only the lonely could understand it when you see them ! You Roy are my most favorite of all times. You capture every emotion, you leave nothing unturned. You have captured the feelings with words! I listen to you so very much, you sing my feelings !
My favorite singer of all time! He will always be remembered..I shook his hand and i will never forget that
My father had 2 demands in his last will. 1 he wanted to be buried in shitty jeans! #2 he wanted a song by Roy orbison on his funeral
Where at
Did you promise never to wash it? Your hand, I mean.
George Harrison was a big admirer of Roy..

Isn''t this song written and sung by JD Souther? Roy Orbison's song is "Only The Lonely" and is different

Lyrics
Only the lonely
Know the way I feel tonight
Only the lonely
Know this feeling ain't right
There goes my baby
There goes my heart
They're gone forever
So far apart
But only the lonely
Know why I cry
Only the lonely
Only the lonely
Only the lonely
Know the heartaches I've been through
Only the lonely
Know I've cried and cried for you
Maybe tomorrow
A new romance
No more sorrow
But that's the chance
You got to take
If you lonely heart breaks
Only the lonely
Only the lonely
Only the lonely
