I've been following Zach for 4 years. My man specializes in flowing better than any one else and writing POWERFUL bars that break you down emotionally and build you back up. Its emotionally soothing because its so sonically pleasing because he does so many small things and it makes his crazy lines that much harder hitting. He has been my favorite in not just nerdcore but regular music across all genres.
The persona 5 and 4 rap makes me think he played the games the anime is based on. And understood the message the games portrayed. Not just heard or read something about it and decided to turn it to music.
Yup, in his P5/P5R raps he always puts spoiler tags if it spoils something and recommends playing the game yourself, which says to me he's played it. And that's beyond the understanding of the game's themes that he portrays in his lyrical writing

To this day I give the Persona 4 anime credit for being the series that made me an anime fan, as well as for helping me sort through a fair bit of personal garbage, so when this song came out I was ecstatic, but sad to see how few people were actually giving it attention. So thank you for giving it a spotlight. Here’s to hoping it helps this song get a little bit more love :)

Yo Scru Face Jean, glad you reacted to this one. I was definitely one of many people who requested it. And I’ve said before, it’s one of my favorites by him. Zach and Fabvl are such a strong musical duo, and I also get the blues/jazz kind of vibes from this track. And Zach’s delivery reminds me a lot of slam poetry which just really hit with me. One of the other songs I requested before (and someone else did too) is Zach’s Megalo Box (Gearless Joe) rap featuring Vinny Noose. It’s a pretty hype-energy type of track and another one of my favorites by Zach.
This song is so good that I listened to it for months before finding out it was about persona. The same happened with his mob psycho song and sinewave foxs parasyte track 'spitting out platinum' ft breeton boi. One thing that helps that is that the songs have titles, like this song is midnight rain and his mob song is called heart and soul, whereas most others call their stuff 'so and so rap' as the song titles on spotify.
Zach is amazing and the persona series is a canvas for people like him. Because the messages inside of each persona has a somber message that everyone can undersand, almost as if it were a theme for a song P3: Time, and death P4: One must seek truth P5: Sticking to justice
I assume this won’t be seen but i’d love to see Scru check the Persona 3 rap that dropped a couple months after this reaction, “Headshot” Zach 110% believes what he’s saying cause it’s damn clear the themes of the persona games are something that resonate with him on a level i can relate to. Zach’s always had these thematics to the characters he plays that match from Gray to N to Kakashi, he sounds like he believes every word he writes cause he definitely does when he writes about these things.
I’d seriously recommend the music from persona 3,4, and 5 if you have any interest. Game music has such a unique feeling that not many other forms try. And persona music is so effective at bringing across emotions that the music is great for listening even outside of its in game context. Tracks like Alleycat from p5 bring across the ideas of finding hope in companionship even when you’re beaten down and ostracized that I can’t help but get in my feelings every time I listen. If you are interested, my recommendations at first would be “last surprise”, “life will change”, and “I believe” for that signature funk and energy that video games in general, and persona in specific, do so well. Love you’re stuff man, I would make an official reaction request but I’m broke so I hope that this interested you.

Ngl homie I'm pretty sure this beat is a sample of Feeling Good? Which is itself a song from the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd. Nina Simone does the iconic version but there's like a million recordings and this is one of the more recent ones if not a rerecording. Also, the idea of people's hidden true natures and lying to themselves and the difference between people who run from that and those who face it are core themes of the Persona games. If you can stomach the JRPG formula like Final Fantasy and such, I highly recommend it. That shit is high art.
