  • We have set out to show the world what the life of a traveling string quartet is really like! There are a lot of misconceptions about what "classical music" is, and we want to share this amazing art form with as many people as we can! Help support this documentary on our kickstarter page:

As the violist in my high school's principle quartet, I so fervently admire the work that the Dover Quartet does. I listen to your Tribute album every day and I am a raving fan of your work. You guys are one of the main reasons why Chamber music will ever die and I hope this track you're on never ends because you've inspired me and so many others to embrace Chamber music in all it's glory. So, Joel, Bryan, Camden, Milena if you're reading this (lol you're probably not), know that you are an inspiration (and an aspiration omg my quartet will never sound as well as yours) and I cannot wait to see your movie!

Thank you SO much, your words mean the world to us. I'm sitting here at dinner with Camden, Joel and Bryan and your comment made everyone's day! Thank you!!

An amazing Quartet that display an absolute mastery of the repertoire in a way that four players have scarcely done in a generation. Nothing but respect, props, and absolute admiration - bravo!

I never comment on youtube, but I've got to say that I really admire you guys! As an amateur violist myself I really love how each of you have amazing solo qualities whilst playing together with such passion and accuracy as an ensemble. Especially Milena, such an amazing powerful yet beautiful tone! I listen to your Smetena recording everyday. Thanks so much for the wonderful music, and I hope that you guys can play the Vaughan Williams Phantasy Quintet sometime, it is amazing, especially for viola!

The amount of time these people put in to this level and practiced to play a 10 min songs takes years of hard work!

As a brass player, I really appreciate your work as a chamber ensemble. Keeping a quartet this tight is an incredible feat. Side note: You misspelled manager, you probably don't want that in your final product

It's always great to listen to your work and to hear about you! I have been so excited about your success and feel honored that I've heard you play my work. Your premiere and recording of my second quartet is and was a great memory and experience for me. I very much look forward to your upcoming performance at the Library of Congress. Best of wishes on your ever-growing and well-deserved success!

I can't tell you guys how excited I was to see this video on my sidebar! You all make wonderful music and are inspiring beyond words! You guys have given me something to strive for, as a violist I hope to be able to play in a group that's as dynamic and soulful as yours :D I missed your concert here in Hawaii, but I go off to college in a year so I really hope our paths intersect!
    Best wishes,
    Charles

      Dear Milena
I tried to defend you by this gnilttbs above. I'm the guy who said goodbye to you in Hartford and wished you well on your concert in Utica/Saratoga. You do play and look like an angel. B

The music at 3:12 ...was that from one of Mozart's Haydn Quartets ? I have the set on SACD and it sounded familiar.

I note that several of you use an electronic device instead of sheet music. I have several questions regarding the use and the capabilities of this device. If one of you would deign to answer, I would be most grateful.
    1) Is it a dedicated device, or is it in the nature of an app for an iPad?
    2) Does it only store and display music scores, or is it capable of more? If more, what?
    3) As you are performing, does the score scroll, or does it simply switch to the next page at the appropriate time, and does it 'listen' to your performance so that it knows when to switch, or must you do it manually?
    4) If it does 'listen', is it able to distinguish between various instruments just by the sound they make, or does it just listen to the loudest (nearest) instrument?
    5) For how long has this device been available?
    6) Approximately what did it cost?
    7) Who is its manufacturer?
My interest is as an inventor (and music lover). I had the idea for such a device some years ago, but never developed it. It struck me that it would be a good way to eliminate all of that rustling of paper during a performance, as well as being able to store ALL of your scores in a much more compact form than lugging a file cabinet with you everywhere you go.
As I said, I'd be truly grateful if someone could take a bit of time to answer these questions, and to provide any other information that you think would be relevant.
Thank you, and, even if you can't find time to reply, thank you SO MUCH for all of the beautiful music that you provide.
If you prefer, you may reply to me directly at corsoncraiga@yahoo.com.

Not a member of Dover, but another professional musician who uses an iPad (and knows other quartet musicians who do the same):
I've been seeing classical musicians use iPads for about 5-6 years, with more and more jumping on the bandwagon (including myself). Most musicians use an iPad Pro (with the largest screen), with an app call "ForScore", which allows you to organize and annotate PDF's of your music. For page-turning, it's done via a Bluetooth pedal (most musicians use the brand AirTurn). I also use an apple pencil, which makes annotations simpler and more accurate (though it's not necessary).
In terms of cost, 2 years I got a refurbished gen 1 iPad pro for ~$650, the Bluetooth Pedal for $60, the forScore app for ~$10, and the apple pencil for $99.
