My brother used to attend his classes when Master Hamilton was on jamaica ave in Queens, NY. My brother trained with some incredible people. My brother was incredible to watch at tounaments back in the 80's. I watch a lot of those classes. Those kids were trained under the best Shotokan instructor ever!!
Master Hamilton was an awesome teacher. His students were well respected for the discipline he instilled within them. I remember performing kata & fighting in his tournaments, he had a set of twin brothers who was dynamite. Osu!!
aw man, this one brings back memories. I was one of the students in this class. I must have been about 10 years old. I remember the twins who were both black belts ( one of their names was Kerry I think) and then there was Bogart who was a brown belt at the time, and then there was this no joke female student by the name of Natalie who was going there at the time. I think she was a brown bet too but I'm not sure. good ole days fro sure.
@@kinspinphotographyrobertha2563 YES! Kevin and Kerry . Thank you for that. I wonder how they are all doing. And I believe there was a light skinned dude nick named Bogart. I believe he was only a brown belt at the time Though. I remember when some one was caught breaking into Master Hamilton car out in the parking lot. The whole dojo went down there to deal with him.
Hey Kaseem, I'd love to hear more about you uncle's experience teaching with him. Reach out to me at swhittle@bricartsmedia.org ! We're working on a documentary.
@@sashawhittle9796 Hey there, I was one of those kids in the audience. I would have been about 10 years old at the time. I would love to see a documentary about Master Hamilton and the dojo
In 1970 my brother & I attended a Gerald Orange karate tournament.at that time I was a green belt my brother was a brown belt, we hailed from the Nisei Goju system down in the east village. Now this particular tournament was strictly for boy's and girls up to 15 yrs. They were giving away trophies & prizes including bicycles that appealed to us being 13 & 14 but at this particular time I had sprained my ankle in the dojo & was hoppin around with a cane. Anyway my bro gi,d up and made it to the final's. O.K. first fight was with Manlike Brown. one of Freda Hamilton's prized Brown Brother's the other two were kevin & Dennis who fought pee wee div were pretty good took a couple titles in that div until Little K.A.did a blitzkrieg # and spoiled their chances for anymore titles in that div. anyway I believe Fred Hamilton got very excited when he saw manlike was up against my bro who had a bit of a rep was no slouch and had a couple of championship's under his belt. Now just before they were to get it on Fred Hamilton grabbed me under my armpit and started screaming that my bro and I were cheating & that I fought in the eliminations and now he is taking my place for the final's you know there were a couple of ex opponents left in the audience and judge's that knew but were terrified of Mr Hamilton's hollerin! Beligerence! But you know how this was gonna go! Hamilton practically owned that place in the middle of harlem 2 irish red haired brothers so every time my bro scored on manlike! NO'SEE"! NO'SEE"! Well if our sensei' would have been on hand that day I'm sure thing's would have went differently
This man built community, pride ,respect and love. Those were the good old days. Bless those who carry on in the same spirit.
