Wow, this was really excellent! That is true time awareness. You are a great teacher! The metronome is a cruel and unbiased teacher. It chides and criticizes even the most seasoned bass player.
Hi Scott. I’m somewhat new to the bass and your channel, what brought me hear (sic*) is trying to learn Trenchtown Rock almost nothing is on the one. Hope you can someday do a video explaining how to play this type of riddim. This video definitely helps though Thank you! You are an awesome teacher
Hey Scott Great stuff, The metronome/Click always challenges me to strive for great time especially if your playing with someone and they is no drummer!! Another great tip, is get yourself a Acoustic Bass, you can take that with you to most places and still practice!!
Yeah. I need to work on this.😂 I’m usually pretty impressed when I get the click on the 2 and 4. I’m a guitar player that bought a bass. Tried to make a little more complicated loop tonight and exposed my out of time self.
Wow, I'm having a lot of trouble to do the triplet exercise. I just hear 1,2,3,4 and can't "find" the tripLET.... I had to put it in my DAW: bassdrum on the 1,2,3,4 and hihat for the triplet. Then play along and then mute the bassdrum. Even then it's difficult to keep it up and not let the metronome, in my case the hihats be on the 1,2,3,4 again. In conclusion, a great exercise! Thanks!
One problem also is hesitant bass players who aren't 100 where to drop the note so they wait 10th of a second. They are always a little after the drums and it takes away the umph. There are people who are physically like big dog puppies, a little Disney delay in the movements and not bang on the beat. Maybe a click app giving an electric chock when slacking off could help? I dunno, It works on lab rats. Record yourself singing with a click, the turn the click off 8 bars and back on, see how you're doing. Got to have a sense of your own and not rely solely on the drummer.
SCOTT RANDOM QUESTION: What is the material of the gloves you are wearing now? and were can I get a pair. I have extremely sweaty palms which causes my strings to rust quickly. HeLp pLeAsE.
+Alonso Mancini Really? in this video or the video about his gloves? I really need a pair, my hands sweat alot and it makes playing very uncomfortable. I've tried various materials in gloves but I'm still searching for a comfortable pair that feels natural. like the ones Scott is wearing now.
+Rashy Doxx "I had seen Ettiene Mbappe (a great French bass player) wearing tight silk gloves while he played due to his acidic sweat rotting his strings so decided to give those a try." that's from his page. Search for "bass silk gloves" and open the result from scott's page to read the whole article.
"You can't play it unless you can sing it". That was a really good aid. Thanks.
😂

Most important bass lesson ever! Thank you so much for sharing
That was like a music magic trick when you switched it to the the last triplet the whole completely changed. 🤯

Excellent stuff for ANY musician

An amazing lesson. Thanks Scott

Same, i keep drifting back eh
ugh, this exercise frustrates me so bad! It's so hard. I keep falling back 'on beat'.
this is how i get thru my day at work
Very helpful. Thanks!
Great exercise! I even used to do it with 16ths. ouch!
I often use my thumb to play the low E string, Is this bad technique (It works just fine for me)?, appreciate the vids:)
Hey Scott, great lesson! Tell us about your new P Bass from Overwater. Especially why you chose the reverse split coil.
Super lesson like all of them. So bad, that I do not even have enough time to go more into this at the moment
Has anyone mentioned Jeff Berlin yet? ;-)

what is the thing you do at 8:43?
I learned this exercise with Benny Greb
Chit!
Yeah same. I think it's great that Scott is showing this. It's extremely important for everyone to be able to keep time, not just the drummer.
actually many bassists actually view their instrument as more of a percussion instrument, which makes a lot of sense.
Rodolfo Amaral same here!
Scott can you learn us sight reading, because my weakness is by reading the bass lines
Starts at around 3:20.
Yesh
Hey can u write tabs for this melody pls
the tabs are irrelevant though
+rantanen1 well, then how do u play it?
just watch and listen and you'll play it
What bass is that?

I think those are silk gloves, and he uses them because an illness he has. He made a video about it. (srry fr bd nglish)
+Alonso Mancini I know of his condition. thanks though.
+Rashy Doxx i said it because it the video he mentions the material

Don't let Jeff Berlin see this ... ;)
Why??

He thinks metronomes are bad for you
The pitched click sound is SUPER annoying. A metronome is not supposed to give any pitch-related suggestions.
I wonder if he bebops with an American accent on purpose.
