Very cool. I saw Pharoah a few times around this time, twice with a modified version of this group and once with just Zakir Hussain. Both concerts were spiritual moments.

One of the great pleasures of listening to jazz in NYC in the 80s and 90s was going out to hear someone and finding that John Hicks was on piano that night. There was no context in which he was out of place, and no context in which his playing was less than stellar.
