I went to the 1983 Grand final aged 13. I wish i went to 84/85. Alan Ezard #15, used to live around the corner from me , he would kick the footy with me alot out on the street.👍

Hawthorn fan here. The most painful day and it still haunts Hawthorn fans of my generation. However, I watch these highlights a lot, simply because it is an unbelievable quarter of football from one of the greatest teams I have seen. I always look at it from the perspective of "if my team did this in the last quarter of a GF how would I behave?". I'd absolutely lose the plot! Baker was absolutely magic, and should have won the Norm Smith.

As a Collingwood supporter watching the previous week slaughter at Waverley I thought if Essendon screw up the grand final after the preliminary final it would be a waste on the effort and skill they showed against Collingwood the previous week who kicked a disastrous 5.11 in a final.
Strangely enough that was the score Essendon then went on to kick in the 1990 grand final. We had the footy gods shining on us that year thanks to Peter Sumich.

Timmy was for me 'the' most brilliant player I ever saw. The days at Windy Hill on the members wing, that EFC woman supporter who always yelled "booooo", when Timmy got the ball their was always a circular electricity buzz, the fans knew Timmy was about to do something magical. I remember Ess v Coll at Waverley, and there is actual footage of this piece of play, two players ran towards a contested ball, two 'magical' players, Peter Daicos/Timmy. Well just as 'Daics' was about to grab the footy Timmy just plucked from him, one on one, 2 truly epic, brilliant players. 3 Premierships, a triple Premiership EFC legend. And Timmy was a fair player. His knee re construction arguably at his peak robbed him of a Brownlow. Ah the wonderful memories, Dad driving us to Windy Hill, now a appallingly disgraceful shell, the Board are, have been a disgrace, WH today is a run down disgrace, while the 6 star hotel 'Hanger', where EFC players are pampered sops, the joint has NO history, nothing. Spoiled sops the players are - look at the players above vs post 2000 arguably our greatest season. Heppell has never been a leader, Dodoro's had 20 years and still now refuses to recruit big mids/utilities. Dodoro has a fan club, Sheedy his biggest fan. But the supplements scandal aside Adrian Dodoro has a appalling record, he is protected by powerful people, if he had the same record for 20 years in the corporate world he would be sacked. Dodoro's entrance into EFC came via befriending 'Harvs;' when AD was working as a simple Administration Officer at Footscray Council. Harvs had to get approval for something from the Council and AD saw his opportunity - he has honeycombed his way into the club ever since, an insidious, arrogant, loathed individual who has cost us so many trades, clubs simply will not deal with him, and the few successes he's had a rare. Until the current playing group get some shit in them, that toughness of the 84/85/2000 teams we're destined to be cellar dwellers, not good for us and the AFL. Eddie McGuire can drone on all he likes about CFC being the 'biggest in the country'. But it's always been the case of the 'big 3' teams EFC is the Manchester United of the AFL. We are so so lost as a club, the club has, is being eaten alive from within. The fish rots at the head - but although I detest North I have always admired the 'shinboner' spirit, they won flags under Pagan on the smell of an oily rage, Arden St until recently was a run down last century club. It is impossible to return to greatness when there is no history where we are now, and a playing group who are treated like Gods, sycophantic blue ribbon services and facilities. 'Culture', or lack of, is so evident. God knows who will be able to change this, and return EFC to greatness, and bat Carlton's Premiership cups.
