    I must admit, I knew lots of different colour correction techniques, especially for skin tones, but Yours seems to be so intuitive, yet effective, that I already gave it a shot editing headshot today, at it works !

  • @JasonPatz

    Some of your techniques were new ideas for me. You also get brownie points for being the only person I've seen/known to be able to get decent selections from select and mask. :)

    • @MrSalamifreak
      @MrSalamifreak 7 лет назад +3

      Select and mask is dogshit if we're being honest. But there is a trick: Make a quick selection, then go to select->select and mask while holding the shift key on your keyboad. This brings back the old refine edge. Unfortunately there seems to be no direct keyboard shortcut for this

    Very good tutorial Kelvin. I like your teaching style, and I appreciate having the image to work on and follow along with what you are sharing. I also appreciate the workflow you employ. A lot of people can do Photoshop work, but not everyone can teach, you definitely can. Keep up the good work.

    Hi
    I don't know how many beginners you have among your "students", but I'm one of those, and I'm not speaking fluently English. That means for me:
    - videos are most of the time useless because I have to watch them something like 50,100x to understand all the details, especially when the specialist speaks 10x too fast for me
    - I love Photoshop, sincerely, but I'm very, very, very far as fluent as you are with all the shortcuts, which means that I'm loosing the majority of them
    Anyway, I am very happy to learn new technics, to increase my knowledge of this fantastic tool, and I would like to thank you to take the time for all this 😊

    *_Question_*: Does anyone else think that photos/edits are way too bright and saturated nowadays, tending towards the unnatural?

    • @petergoes6185
      @petergoes6185 7 лет назад +50

      depends on the forum... social media like insta, etc... seems to be pushing hyper-exaggerated tones and dramatic/ unrealistic edits. But that's certainly no standard for fine art or true artistic photography

    • @huyked
      @huyked 7 лет назад +10

      Thanks for the input, Peter. I realized later on that I'm asking this question on a video where people are looking to make their photos pop. :D lol. Then again, I also came to look at this video, and my tendency is more toward realism. I do love the look of quite a few images that are saturated past the point of realism, but I guess I'm okay with making the image aesthetically pleasing even if it doesn't reflect reality. Maybe I have been influenced a little by what is popular now. :)

    • @Zaffobaffo
      @Zaffobaffo 7 лет назад +7

      In this tutorial Imho he popped too much color from that girl.. Even in realistic art photo when lighting is not optimal and if you don't have 5k$ equipment, the colors seems even duller than they are in reality, so you need a bit of tweaking.

    • @huyked
      @huyked 7 лет назад +3

      With $5K equipment, sometimes you can set Flat profiles. That's a nightmare for me. Lol. Too many options! ;P A Macbeth chart or grey card helps in this situation. And, yeah, it's all subjective anyhow. But I agree it's over-popped for my taste. I think when I get home, I'll fade a 50/50 mix of this and the original to see if I like that version better. :)

    • @TheXentius
      @TheXentius 7 лет назад +8

      Maybe you are right.But at the end,I am sure he gave an idea what you can do,so you can decrease the opacity.It is matter of taste.

    It's cool and all, but man why go through all that trouble and wasted time? I can get the same or better results in Lightroom in less than a minute. There are times to bring a photo into Photoshop, but not for trivial/typical reasons like these. It would take forever to edit a photo shoot like this. And if someone showed up to a photo shoot and said, "Yeah I wore this shirt, but I don't really like it, can you just change it in Photoshop?" I'd probably turn around and leave, lol.

    • @Nic-gb1kc
      @Nic-gb1kc 7 лет назад +41

      I'd really like to see your version in less than a minute in LR, using no presets and of the same quality. Sure his method may take a bit longer but each feature is isolated so its easier after to change.

    • @adamaj74
      @adamaj74 7 лет назад +150

      +Nic n Using just one tool, the adjustment brush tool, I can do virtually everything he's doing here, which is mostly contrast, saturation and exposure. You can isolate the same way and change it anytime later. If you couldn't do these common tasks in Lightroom, what would be the point of Lightroom? There's a reason for it's existence. Adobe created Lightroom for photograhers and you can use it to accomplish 99% of what you need, and in a better/faster way. Here is my edit of this photo using only Lightroom to make it look close to his vision: c1.staticflickr.com/1/583/31809273685_7c83793fe8_o.jpg
      Here is how I would edit it myself using Lightroom: c1.staticflickr.com/1/496/31662401252_0e87afffc1_o.jpg
      Copying his edits took a little over 2 minutes. Editing my version took 1 minute 15 seconds. And this was just using a crappy jpeg. You could make it look even better using the raw file.
      Now, having said all this, I do use Photoshop for some things, but it is rare and usually only when an image needs major "surgery" etc. But for normal photo shoots, using his method/Photoshop is just too slow and cumbersome - which is the exact reason Adobe created Lightroom for photographers. Can you imagine editing 50 or 100 photos like this?

    Gotta admit. I like & prefer Photoshop. I've tried Lightroom, Paintshop, even Optics Pro 8. And I actualy find others very complex and confusing. I guess people are comfortable with their first software brand. And I can do things on Photoshop, that most photographers are stunned by. My only complaint...Adobe and DxO, need to have disc options, for their software, and not on-line only downloading. Not everyone has the internet. But everyone does have a camera.
    Oh. One more thing....The photo editor on Google+, is well worth it. Simple to use with great results.
