I've just bought one, second hand but new, for a few bucks. I've just changed the strings (there were just crap) and now it sounds great. For the money, this is a great bass. I love it.
@@mangofactory.mp4 True that. But with some pickups the difference for some reason is attenuated, like for example the noiseless blade pickup by Nordstrand, (which I own and know very well).
I have the "other" Harley Benton semi-hollow bass and this seems like a really different beast. Looking at the specs it's 34" scale, definitely has a wider string spacing at the bridge to accommodate that pickup. The one I have is short scale with narrow spacing. This seems like it's partially based on the Jack Cassady Epiphone.
@@shakyblues2099 I'm curious about what the switching circuit is. Could just be treating both coils as single coils and doing "bridge", both parallel and "neck", but a more sensible setup (which they may have done) would be series, parallel and single.
Hello, j'ai la même en orange ! J'ai changé le micro et j'ai mis un sillet en os. Changé la prise jack et le condensateur. C'est petites modifications font que cette basse est formidable, peut être un peu lourde à mon gout .
Seems like they have done several production runs already - mine has a nice 5-layered black & white binding on the front (the overall finish seems to have gotten much more attention than yours, unfortunately… sorry.) Fascinating fact - this hollow body is the heaviest bass in my collection.
6:20 - This is not how you check intonation. What you want do is to cross-reference is the 12th fret harmonic vs. the _fretted_ note on the 12th fret. If they are not at the same pitch, the saddle for the string needs to be adjusted. The unfretted string vs. the 12th fret harmonic will _always_ produce a perfect ocatve and does not tell you anything about the intonation of the instrument. Any plucked string does this, it does not need frets under it to do so.
I've been looking for a video on this bass for a couple of week. Good job on being the first one! I'm actually surprised how good it sounds. Any idea what the switching options are? Series/Parallel/Split?
Thanks. To be honest, there was no literature with the guitar explaining it. On Thomann's website, it just says "3 way switch." I'm guessing out of phase, humbucker and single coil? No idea really.
Finally someone did a video on this bass!!!! Thank you man!

the switch is definitely neck coil, parallel, and bridge position and the pickup sounds like it is in the music man sweet spot.
It could be parallel - one coil - series.
@@MotoMarios true, but series would have a higher output and darker sound that i personally don't hear

Sounds like it's flat down, mid-push middle, mid-cut up.
Excellent review, very informative. Bass sounds really good. Cool looker, would have been awesome if it had the elephant ear style tuners.
Sounds really good!
It's a great bass. Can't believe the price.
It is definitely a semi hollow. But I wish they had gone with a shorter scale like the EB2 or the Epi Rivoli.
Harley Benton also has one like those you mention as well
nice vid, thanx

I agree.
Reminded me of that Epiphone a bit too.
I prefer this, though.
The Cassady one looks great, but didn't feel as good to me.

@eyeball226 No idea. Very different sounds, as you can hear.
I'm hoping HB does a video explaining.
Couldn't find anything in the Thomann description.

Kinda sounds like the new passive sterling ray
Cool bass..great video...how much did the bass cost ? Looks pretty awesome..
£175 (B-Stock)
£199 (new)
Peter Hook would like it.

It is heavy. Agreed.
For those us that are concerned about weight... just ~how~ heavy are we talking?
@@thomaslefree2464 I have no scales, but about the same as my Les Paul. It's not light.
Is this a light instrument? Very interested if it is
No. It weighs about the same as my Les Paul.
@@shakyblues2099thanks - no use for an old timer then. My no. 1 is a Mike Lull M5 and it’s 8lbs. Sometimes would like just a 4 string though 😎

Good to know.
Always done it with the harmonic.
I'll change my ways.
@@shakyblues2099 Well yes, with the harmonics. Just not against the _empty_ string, but against the _fretted_ string - on the 12th fret.
Just to be curious what is the weight approximately is that bass, I might get it myself
About the same as a Les Paul

I believe the switching options are bridge coil, humbucker (parallel), and neck coil.
@@shakyblues2099 You can always touch the polepieces with something metal (string, screwdriver, etc.) and should be able to hear what coil is active.
With pick? 🥲
Yep.
I'm a plectrum player.
Carol King, that's all.
@@mrbassman2400 Maan keep calm :) i meant that how you can make review of bass with using only pick. No that using pick is bad....LOL :)
I wish these “reviews” would skip the unboxing. Too much time wastes watching someone unwrap… bass review please. Not a packaging inspection
Skip through.
Personally, I like them.
Everyone is different.
Pretty underwhelming to my ears, honestly...
Fair enough. Everyone likes different things.
You get what you pay for, I guess.
