- Ross from Line 6 popped by the Peach studio, so we thought we would put together a little challenge for him. Can he replicate our Jack's £2,000 pedalboard with just the new Line 6 HX effects pedal? In this video we find out!

Shit that was awkward! I can't tell if Jack was joking but the lack of the guys reaction made it worse...😂
Cringe cringe cringy cringe
don't tooch me... seemed real but I think it's dry brit humor
Holy shit. I just came across this video and that was... something.
I have absolutely no idea if he was serious or not, but goddamn.
😂😂
I don't know how you guys record but the guitars on this channel always sound SO good. levels are always high enough that you can get an idea of the power of the sound. Well balanced with the voices. Well done!
well they show you the nice ass guitars and amps they're using, plus the specific microphones. Since it's a podcast it's probably just running into a normal interface on a laptop, maybe desktop, either way, recording a few tracks at once doesn't need anything more powerful than a normal laptop to run decent sound quality and latency.
The dont touch me line made it so were all harassed. Thanks a lot!
Well, the Line6 Helix Floor replaced my €5000 Pedalboard. I had the best Stuff on there: Gigrig G2, all big Strymon Pedal, King of Tone, Jhs, Suhr, Xotic, Providence Pedals, Custom Cabeling with Evidence Audio SIS and Custom built Case. It needed 2 People to move around and I couldn't fit it in my normal car so I had to drive with my VW Bully. Now: One Bag for the Helix done. Sound: better than before because all the cables even with high end Buffer ate a lot of tone. But the best thing is that I can dail in my sounds within a few minutes. With the Gigrig and all the Strymon it was a nightmare to program and I can say that I'm pretty fluent with programming Midi and never had problems with it.
AlexisGitarre hi Alex. Are you still happy with your HX? I am a die hard pedal guy, and I have a lot of amazing pedals, bit a part of menreally want to go the HX way, but worried I will be dissapointed...
Are you playing through an amp or frfr or even di box?
Dont touch me. The best part of the video
Was that a joke or real? didn't really understand that.
@@Johnlemmo451 I got the feeling there was definitely an animosity there.
He had a smirk while saying it so it was obviously a joke
The most British of demos
I have mine running in front of a Marshal Origin 20c (dry) and a Benson modded HRD (wet) and I couldn't be happier. I'm only limited by my imagination and it's such an integral part of my rig that I think I should write the product team a letter telling them how happy I am with it.
Dude. It's been proven through multiple studies that auditory memory lasts for seconds at MOST!! If you want to "A/B" something, you can't play "A", ramble on for 15 minutes in that very British way, and then play "B". I've already forgotten what "A" sounds like. It needs to be quick and immediate so I can make a true comparison!
Tighten it up!!!
Maybe didn't come across great in the camera edit but that's exactly what we tried to do. I switched HX off at exactly the same time as switch the real pedal on. Buuut, yes we waffled a bit for the rest of the time. Good fun though and Jack is a killer player. #Imustgopractice.
word. Great Vid
"in that very British way" i'm dead, but I agree haha
Decent argument, until you invalidated it with the ignorance about "that very British way."
CentaurusRelax314 that while may be ignorant to you, technically has nothing to do with his initial statement, so it isn’t invalidated
Yes. But don't touch me 😂😂😂
That was quite the little exchange. Not sure why they left that in. Super uncomfortable. Heheh.
Really helpful gentlemen. I appreciate the deep dive. I may start out with HX as I just got a new EVH and I am in love with it’s tone.
Don't touch me hahahahabaha
Quite a rude joke hahahaa
ruclips.net/video/USRXSyUebRo/видео.html
Fucking Hilarious! It's like I will Demo this with you but I only fly straight so, hands off! Can't says I blame him at all for the comment.
Yeah, that was super awkward, right? I had to go back and watch it again because I wasn't sure what just happened. They kind of glossed right over it, but there was definitely some kind of weird exchange there.
Time please?
This is the best demo I've seen, well done guys, you sold me one 👍👍
i'm pretty sure in my live situations no-one could tell the difference. That's what worries me...I have a 3K pedalboard and I keep telling myself hauling around a 30Kg case is worth it....but it's not...
Patsboem88 thats not the point. Its if you can tell the difference. That can affect how you play big time.
The PS-5 and PS-6 are both digital, so to say "least of all a digital platform" could replicate those makes you sound like a complete tool.
I know that man, I was generalizing of course. I will never give up my pedals ;)
You're not entirely wrong, unirregardlessly of the words you chose to use, but what I am sure of is that the people who claim a digital platform can't replicate pedals are the last people who could actually pick them apart in a blind test.
Tell me about it..
Great playing as ever. Great unit. I love mine. I like the fact that it will take me months to get to the bottom of what it can do. I also love the small footprint for the small stages I usually play on. Great series of videos on this Peach. Thank you!
After living with the HX Effects unit for a while now, I'm selling all my other pedals and pedalboards. The HX Effects does it all so convincingly and with a very low noise floor.
agree. At the price you're getting over 20 overdrives, great delays, modulations and reverbs and you have midi send messages for other devices or your amp. Probably the real pedals sound slightly better but no one in the audience notices and they feel great to play. Absolute win.
@@joejohnson8966 What sealed it for me was I did exactly what the guys did in the video and got so close to the sound of the pedals on my board but with a much lower noise floor..and my board had The Gig Rig system so was low noise as possible. I've since bought another used HX Effects unit for my acoustic gigs and I'm more than happy.
@@graemeelliott8276 the noise floor is a big one. People don't understand it until you switch. And if you were even using the Gig rig... then that is as good as it gets. Was the noise really lower?
Good, answered my first questions right out of the gate.
I do NOT need (or want to pay for) amp modelling and I want better algorithm/audio quality than the M series(which I already have,I want an upgrade into Strymon territory)
Yeah the amp modeling on the stomp pisses me off it’s so shit. I’m returning it.
For us low volume bedroom players that use smaller digital amps, can you run the HX into a small practice amp like an ID Core 10, Spark, etc?
yep; should work perfectly fine
Especially with catalyst
I run one through a Yamaha thr20 practice amp. It sound great.
8 minutes into the vid - 2 chords played - wake me up when it’s over...
I hope after 4 years you have done with a caty nape 😂
HX effects is a monster. I like it
My biggest problem is that until they get the HX edit to work properly I am getting a seriously bad back bending to adjust it otherwise its superb
Happy Halfwit The Editor for the HX Effects hasn't been released yet. Right now it's just a preset manager application. Aka no changing effects blocks, settings, signal chain etc. on the computer for now. But it should be coming any day now is the rumor.
The answer is YES! Period. I don't know why people still do these comparisons. Digital effects have been around for 30 years and have gotten nothing but better. I used a Digitech GSP 21 Pro from about 1989 til about 2006. Recording, live, whatever, it was awesome. Some effect were a little plastic-y but it did all I needed it to do and sounded great overall. Had a Boss GT for a bit, it was ok, not a big fan of Boss's delays and compressors, then went to Line 6 products and they are amazing. I still have a Blackstar HT 40 tube amp and a small pedalboard (Chorus, delay, reverb, phaser flanger, wah) for playing all the 80's rock in garage jams and small venues, but my main rig now for serious work is a Mesa JP-2C signature and a Helix. 4 cable and a midi cable controls everything from the effects to the head. I would never go back now, so convenient. One board on the floor and with more functionality than any stomp board I ever had. I also have a friend who is a total tone snob come over a few weeks back and try it out for the first time. He left saying his mind was seriously changing after a test run, he couldn't tell enough of a difference to complain about..
10:42 "DON´T TOUCH ME" xD
I am gonna need more of that OCD like I need my cowbell!!
hello friends. im planning to get just the helix effects (without the amp sims) was wondering whether the dry signal of my amp will be lost when i dime the reverb mix since ill be running the fx in front of my actual amp. thanks in advance!
Use the four cable method running your Reverb through the loop and you'll be all set. The four cable method is a must in my opinion.
Should have played ‘Please don’t touch!’ by Steve Hackett.
Way too much talking and not enough playing guitar , I wanted to hear the differences but I didn't get that much from the video. What you were saying may have been all valid but I was trying to skip the talking and get to the playing but it was difficult to find.
Was the "don't touch me comment" at 10:42 a very subtle Mighty Boosh reference or an uncomfortable exchange? I genuinely can't tell and I'm Australian, so we're used to being jokingly rude!
Would use this, but in combination with a couple of drive pedals.
I am really interested in buying this unit to use in front of a clean Fender HRD (my go-to amp for clean tone, that I use at least 50% of the time). My big concern is: does the Helix HX changes the basic tone of the amp when bypassed? Or should I use a buffer, specific settings, change the amp EQ etc?
Probably too late for you, but I just spent some time over at a friend's studio testing that exact thing. With the digital/tails bypass on, I cabled the unit in and out from in front of my amp. I could not discern any difference. The unit, at least to my ears, has an extremely high quality buffer that did not color my natural amp sound.
@@MrAxman53 thank you! I ended up buying a PodGo and a FRFR speaker and having a great time with them! But in case I would like to go back to a real amp, your comment could be very useful!
That Helix is nice.. Will have to check out..
Hope they make a HXFX even smaller for 2022
They didn’t. 😁
36 minutes is no way enough time to dial it in...plus, don't forget, you have two external loops for favorite pedals....I love mine.
I love mine too, but as you suggested, you have to spend some time with it
@@williamsporing1500 I am still loving it. My only complaint is sometimes I sit down, and totally screw up my patches...there could be outside influences...LOL
@laneonguitar64 get HX editor. I do mine on my laptop. Much easier than using the scribble strips.
Also have native on my DAW.
Is there some sort of Plexi pedal were you can get a decent amp like to tone to base your setup on? Clean until the edge of breakup as you roll up the volume?
The only question I have is. What’s the difference between threw that unit and straight to the amp. How much A/D - D/A tone suck is there? I know it’s true bypass when off but how about when on. Say with a reverb on vs a reverb pedal. I want to go digital because the convenience but I can’t deal with the tone suck they all have had so far. How’s this one compare?
I have one and have this precise issue. Wondering if a buffer might help
@@jazzzferis there a built in buffer? I know the m 13 has buffered or TB option built in..
Undoubtedly a good product, but these guys talk some waffle. The modelling is accurate, until it’s not accurate, then it’s the fault of the pedal manufacturer because their products are not consistent.........Mmmmmm
I used to have the HX Effects and ran it in 4 cable. It sucked tone. I really need the flexibility of this pedal and I'm wondering if there is a fix for the tone loss? Maybe a buffer somewhere?
No loss here. Unsure what your problem was back then.
Don’t touch me 😂😂😂
is this a talk show or an AB test?
lots of whining in the comments, but I thought the video was an efficient half hour for someone like myself wanting the gist of the hx effects. Just purchased. Liked the candor and dry humour as well. Great stuff as always, guys. And holy smokes he can play guitar!
10:43 the mighty boosh. Lol
LoL That made me feel very uncomfortable when he said don't touch me... But I have OCD disorder so I hate it when people touch me...
But you were okay with the guy awkwardly touching his thigh? Derp
@@brianl3766 Can you not read? Did you not see there part where I said "I hate it when people touch me...?" You can assume that if I hate people touching me i'd not be okay with it... fucking genius...
Was that, don't touch me, comment a joke? British humor is so illusive to me, an American. I took it to be a very serious and diva-ish comment, but I'm totally open to it being a joke. Now I'm more curious about the joke than I am about the gear.
Steve L It was a joke, look at Jack's cheeky smerk after the comment! We would have edited it out if it was meant in any other way. Thanks for watching!
I can confirm what Peach said, it was a joke. Me and Jack are good mates. You notice though, I was very careful not to touch him again. ;-)
TheToneShack have you touched him since?
@@PeachGuitars good to know, as a Canadian, the rest of the entire video felt a bit awkward... I was only half focussed on the actual demo. Brits being Brits I guess.
10:38. Dont touch me😂
That pedalboard is easy to replicate with HX. My setup is difficult to replicate... I use tube screamer (provides color) and line 6 (analog delay sound) among others, and I have not been convinced to switch to HX. I would love to simplify at the time of each show 🤷♀🤷♀😥😥😭😭😭😭
I think the biggest thing I took away form this video is that I need an OCD.
Watch Frogleap or Twelve Foot Ninja live using Line 6...the people were enjoyed the sound. 👍😊
Has anybody figured out how to save more than six effects at once? It's not in the manual.
you can save 9 in line. the first 6 will be visible.
IT SOUNDS MEAN & BEAUTIFUL!👍🏻 🎸
So this is what happened to Ray Donovan after the series
How come there's a ton of reverb both while it's not set up as an effect? Any external processing that's not shown? The od's sound fine, but I'm not impressed by the reverb/modulation/pitch/delay effects. Basically, that's my entire board, minus a distortion and tuner (which cost like 100 euro's together). If you want bread and butter sounds the HX might be fine, but for more experimental, ambient stuff the value isn't really there imo. So while it might replicate this specific board (why you'd have have two compressors, a booster, preamp and an OD on a board is beyond me, a single good quality preamp/OD into a tube amp can handle all of that just fine imo), I can't see these all-in-one things replacing a well thought out board any time soon.
Hi Pieter, I believe the demo didn't do it justice for experimental/ambient capabilities. I purchased this two weeks ago for doing specifically ambient sounds, and if anything it has more than I'd normally use and sounds very pristine. My only worry about using factory presets is that they are very signature, so I've been creating user presets to avoid sounding off the shelf.
I just doubt that it does good quality polyphonic pitch shifting at multiple harmonic intervals simultaneously, Eventide/Strymon quality reverbs and less standard delays like a meris polymoon would do. Especially reverb quality is paramount to me, really makes or breaks a sound imo (even when used subtly) . What I've heard and read in the comments doesn't sound too good in that regard. This might seem unreasonable to ask for, but that makes about a 2k pedalboard. Hope you like it though, it's definitely very practical to not have to mess around with cables/power supplies/etc. all the time :).
Curious how you like it for ambient sounds!
The problem is that 99% (not scientific #) of folks today listen to crap MP3 on crap earbuds or mini-bose/apple speakers, so they would NOT know good sound if it bit them. My solution is 2 fold, playing a club where the folks are "respectful", take out the A-Game. Playing the corner bar, take out my GNX4 & B52 amp....still gets a solid sound, but if any of it gets damaged I don't go to jail! LOL! This pedalboard would still be a $$ loss for the average joe....
Is the answer yes? I don't have 35 minutes
Christ. Watch another video Twitter-brain!
To much talk and not euough action
This is a great idea for a vid - much more interesting than a straight review. (P.S. I thought Coutinho had gone to Barcelona).
Ian Wilson I was happy to see Lanzini left West Ham for RUclips
Omg British Remy Mallick didn’t like being touched!! Hilarious
We can hear someone playing into the room next to theirs. And maybe some construction works machines that "blip" and destroy things ! haha
Isolation isn't working on this HX thing (joke of course).
From my experience with the Helix
Drives: really good models, although probably missing whatever your favourite boutique drive is.
Modulations: really good
Pitch effects: not so good, not polyphonic at all
Filter effects: pretty good, missing some things (I want a really chewy LFO filter like the subdecay prometheus)
Delay effects: good
Reverbs: Ok, not outstanding.
I think that's fair, I can get the pitch stuff to do what I want for gigs though. Maybe an update to get them all closer to Eventide quality is in the pipeline.
As someone who is looking to buy. I would love it if was not such a sales pitch where everything is wonderful . With more straight, this is what it does and this is how you do it !
Don't touch me....... Seriously?
No, not seriously. Jokingly.
10:40
Great vid! Great player
32:20 so no latency paralel delay. Nice
HX Effects is great. I have one.
10:50 Don't touch me?😅😂
I have the Line 6 Spider III 30 watt/12 inch, and it does me for everything imaginable i'll tell you. I can replicate Jimmy Page, Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour effortlessly and for a 'relatively poor man' like myself, it is great.
i'm really sorry that you think that lol.
No one could tell the différence in live situation BUT there is à HUGE différence in a matter of dynamic ; i had both nothing replacé à tube amp
Certainly agree, but this is specifically an effects box and is intended to compliment your perfect tube amp, not replace it. I've mine running through the loop on an all-tube PRS MT-15 into an Orange C30 12 inch speaker and it sounds excellent. Extremely responsive and they harmonize beautifully. But I did have to lower the gain/output on almost every patch out of the box, they were very hot and blew the tube preamp into distortion the second the pedal was clicked on.
Yes it will
I guess we’ll Never know
DON'T TOUCH MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But if you want something significantly better than the 3k rig And the helix get an AX8 blows it away !!!
dont touch me! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Way too much talking. Just want to hear a back n forth comparison. The hand touch was nice tho :) lol
HX cuts some warm lows
More waffling than the every Belgian breakfast.
Talk about talking Geek!!!!
Thinking on getting the HX as back up to my big board with all real pedals. I wish Line 6 would update their overdrives. Minatour kinda harsh...Compulsive Drive = outdated Pay JHS some coin and put Angry Charlie AT edition on their and a BB preamp pedal! Also a little less commentary and more audio sampling.
10:42 don't touch me :)
10:42 😅
Playing hard to get
That's because it is digital ,,,so stop whining bout how digital these things sound allready golly !!!
3 knobs above will last maybe 1year same as other line 6 products🧐
20 mins in, 4 ads.
It’s fishing around for the right pitch!! Bummer.
10:41
All about the TOAN!
no
freakin
It need a expression pead
You can plug two in
31:08
nice hair
Conclusion: the pedals sound far better.
Digital Harassment.
too much talk
Sweet lord ......play something ........please.
Ok boomer
Too much talking
The OD tones are awful and the Line 6 guy puts his hand on his knee WTF.
Never touch another man's thigh, lol. At the same time, never say "don't touch me" when you are recording a video. You guys might want to take this one down.
Thanks for the input, but we'll be leaving it up! It's all lighthearted banter!
No, it definitely definitely can't.
Bleek Noir I definitely agree with you, HX way way better
hahahahaahahahhahahhahahahahhhhaaaaa...no.
BETTER? than actual dedicated pedals? (Depending on what pedals you use, maybe the line6 is in the ballpark). My rig is half Xotic built and half Strymon built. Line6 can't TOUCH IT!
You're right Line6 cant...............................but Fractal Audio effects can!
Perhaps. They're all a modern, easy-fix, for those who don't wanna lug too much gear, and probably play direct to house/soundcard for recording. I've been a professional musician for 3 years and have been gigging and recording for 16 years. I won't go there. Never say never, but right now, I can hear the difference, it's there.
Way too much talking in this video lol...
@luissal Is here
