my tip fir getting yourself to revise is anytime you feel unmotivated imagine yourself on results day getting the grades you really want and then imagine yourself on results day disappointed with your results and wishing you had put the extra effort in realise that what you do right now can determine which of those situations come true. exams seem huge and scary but you have full control of the outcome
I went to uni straight out of high school in 2012 and I genuinely went just because I thought it was the right thing to do. I chose a totally random course, kind of based off my A-Levels and after 2 months of being there I realised it wasn't for me. So I quit. I worked for a while in my home town having a few different jobs trying to find out what my actual passion was in life...after working in a school as a teaching assistant in the special needs unit I realised that was it. But I didn't have a lot of experience so I applied to be an Au pair in America for an autistic child. So I got to travel, live in nyc for a year and gain some experience in the field I now want to go into. And as of the end of this month I'm gonna be studying Autism Studies at the University of Kent then once I've got my degree I'm going back to America permanently as I have a job lined up there already - woohoo for figuring my life out!!
watching this made my job of getting through year 11 seem a lot easier, so although there weren't any GCSE related questions, thanks for making this video cos it really made me take a step back look at the bigger picture (uni etc) and realise that I should enjoy not having to worry about a lot of the stuff you talked about in this video x
+Briony B I was so so worried for year 11, but honestly it was much better than it seemed like it would be! it was scary at the thought of exams, but until about march time, teachers aren't that big on them, and it just feels like year 10 to be honest, just doing more of the stuff. the exams are stressful, but if you keep on top of your homework and start revising earlier than you think you will (but not in like march because let's be real, you revise in class) it'll be okay! The way I felt in September last year is nothing compared to this year, I feel like from year 9 the next school year just gets scarier and scarier until you're done to be honest, it's worrying but you'll get through! :)
Jess Thomas thank you so much, it was really nice to hear all that:) when is the right time to start revising because i've heard lots of different things form different people?
+Briony B you'll probably want to start just before Easter. Only revise in small amounts (1 - 1.5 hours) at a time every day. That way you'll get loads done and you won't have to cram later on. 😊
You can't legally get a paid shop job till after you've finished year 11. But a paper round is quite a good job to get. Or volunteer in a charity shop it gives you a range of experience, you meet people from a wide range of life and is totally flexible around school. Revision start doing past papers in Easter time your self then go through mark schemes as it tells you what you need to revise more. Also don't let revision take over your life my friend did like 40 hours after school a week and her health broke down. :)
Briony B I started for my mocks (which were in January) so I had quite a bit of time, after my mocks I waited a couple of months, started gradually in march and and built up until May :)
+David W You can do it!!! I had a rule that I wouldn't work past 9:30pm. It allowed for some down time to relax and really helps with sleeping and having a study/life balance. It helped me graduate with a 1st so I highly recommend it if you work better in the daytime :) Good luck!
I'm going in to my second year of uni and I'd say that it's important to try and talk to as many people as you can during freshers koz that's when everyone is getting to know everyone and are more sociable with people they don't know. So that's always good :) and that's coming from someone who sucks at socializing haha. Also with revision, try to be strict with yourself and be disciplined. Try and reward yourself after every hour or so of work you do, so that you have something to look forward to, and keep motivated.
Can totally relate to the post-university-crisis question at the beginning, feels like a really big chapter in my life is just over and everyone expects me to have a plan... which I suppose I should do, really. Oh well. Great video!
if you aren't sure what you want to be after college/university, just take all your general studies classes and get them out of the way. Worked great for me. Just don't major in something completely void of any future possibilities. It's one thing to love a subject, it's another to actually find gainful employment in that field. Student loans don't just go away because there isn't a job for you, so yea, that's a pretty big deal.
Funny coincidence you made this video, because I just started university earlier this week. As someone who really sucks at revising, the tips you gave ought to come in handy.
Am I the only one that isn't freaking out about starting uni? Chances are you'll make friends and so long as you aren't spending money pointlessly you'll be ok lol
+SuperSamStuff Get a lot of swanky lamps and use those instead of the overhead lights. Lighting can make or break an entire room. I'd also recommend Christmas lights and posters. And maybe a fuzzy throw rug.
YES. THANK YOU. And yes I have to get a job sob sob sob Freshers groups on Facebook are a godsend!! Through group chats, etc. I already have friends from my course and from my halls and it's honestly made my anxiousness SO MUCH BETTER having people to talk to and to reassure you and to remind you that you're all in the same boat of fear and inexperience. X
loved this video! are you considering bringing out a tshirt with the poster design on? i dont use posters but id 100% buy the tshirt! (especially if you made it strappy or cropped too, seen as skin can be so 'offensive') xxx
Everyone says "go travelling to find yourself" but if you've just left university, and you know you have a lot of money to pay back, how are you gonna get the money to travel as soon as you leave uni?
I hate tea, I don't get why every person I've told gets so surprised about an English person not liking tea. I've never liked it, the same goes for coffee, fizzy drinks and teacakes. They just taste so weird. Your videos are so funny, I've had a bad first day back to school today and you really cheered me up. Cheers xx
I'm so anxious about starting uni! Well mostly about the social side of things, I know I'll be okay with studying but the thought of awkwardly making new friends and socialising with new people has me more than a little panicked x
I'm going to study in England as an erasmus student... Damn Pound is so expensive! I had to pay 275€ for 200 Pounds... and the british uni system is so different from what I know as a uni student from Germany. But I'm going to enjoy my time there!
Great advice and funny video! You know with the travelling thing though I always hear people saying to go travelling once you've finished school but with what money?? I mean it's hard to save up enough money to do that from just a weekend job when you're at school so what do you do if you don't have rich parents to pay for you?
I disagree with not going out every night in Freshers. Suffering from insane hangovers almost brings people together naturally. It's a great way to make friends.
Also make sure you do understand that if you do get an overdraft and stay in your overdraft until you are a graduate - it won't stay interest and charge free forever. The real world awaits. (from a grumpy bank worker) xoxo
I'm just starting A levels and have thought for ages that I was gonna study medicine and I've done work experience and all that, but then I just realised (literally last night) that RS is what I'm actually really interested in and passionate about. Is it easy enough to change my plans completely or should I stick with what I've been working for?? (I obvs will think more about this but opinions are useful) :)
+Becca Bailey I am starting A-levels to and I went through a similar situation and decided that the options I picked weren't really right for me. My college were so helpful and let me change and I also know that we have a policy where you can swap your A-levels around for the first 6 weeks of term so maybe talk it through with teachers/head of departments etc? Just go with your gut and you can always change back, go with what you enjoy and what you feel passionate about, because you are going to stick to it for a few years! I hope this is helpful in some way, good luck with everything :)
+Becca Bailey I'm starting A-Levels and was almost the same, I was going to do La,w always going to do and then a couple of months ago i had a realization that actually, i want to go to an arts uni and do photography :) I decided to change to allow me to study, because my mum has found ways you can get round having the wrong A-Levels etc.
+Lola Minney thanks I think we are able to change our A levels at the start so I guess I'll see how they go first and but yeah I'm glad I'm not the only one :)
So I'm going to start the second year of a course in another city and I'm kinda awkward and dorky. My big worry is that there will already be established cliques and I won't fit into any of them, any advice?
Anyone know where hannah's lights are from??:) I always absolutely love hannah's backdrop! But aah I do my gcses this year and then am picking my a-levels..they expect us to know what we want to do with our lives but..im only 15...anyone got any advice on how to decide..?and not get stressed about eeeverything..? thanks:))
do you have any advice for someone who is going back to school after doing nothing for a 2 year ?(i have terrible memory and attention span also i never really needed to learn stuff with my books since i always just settle for the minimum so i can i change that ? thanks :)
You don't drink tea? Hannah. Hannah. Han. I've actually learned that it's good when someone doesn't drink tea because then you don't have to make two *Bo Burnham voice* HA SCORE
I go to a boarding school and I was the only new kid when I first got there, so if you wanna break the ice don't do what I did....don't start talking about pickles to people you don't even know....bad idea
+Eva Swain Do you have an idea on what job you want to do in long run? If so then look at what will get you there and what subjects will be useful. If not then look at what you think will be useful in the long run but have fun with it, choose subjects that you like and will enjoy. You can always change your mind and life is constantly changing so no worries if later on you realise you want to go back and do a course in something completely different

I admit I'm lucky enough to be able to get a job but not everyone is able to get one! I get £90 a week and my accommodation is £122, even with my job I'm going to struggle and then there are people getting over £7000 a year! everyone should get the right amount to live. £7000 is not a necessity.
@hannah! is it that you don't brush your teeth or your skin is so bright that i keep noticing them. Please don't mind. but see for yourself. Much love. Always.

+anna tarpey This is great advice and I am kind of jealous that I've never studied with this mind set
aww thank you its helped me alot
I went the "doing the thing I love" way too, and it's brilliant. Totally depends on what you want in life though!
God I needed this, first day today ahhhhhh!

Great video. I'm starting Uni in a week so thanks for the advice.
Omg I was literally thinking about putting that poster up in my halls room like ten seconds before you suggested it, haha!
Great advice Hannah xx I was wondering if you have any tips on how to handle anxiety when talking to new people? xx

+flynnisblue So fun
i move to uni in a week and i have literally spent all day panicking about having no money and no friends so this was very reassuring haha thank you x
Am I the only one that isn't freaking out about starting uni? Chances are you'll make friends and so long as you aren't spending money pointlessly you'll be ok lol
haha my loan doesn't cover my rent so my biggest worry is not being able to find a job really i guess
STUDY GROUPS ARE SO HELPFUL
Brilliant video Hannah, and really helpful!!! :D
Trigonometry is fun ;)
Any tips for decorating my dorm room so it doesn't look like a jail cell?
+SuperSamStuff Get a lot of swanky lamps and use those instead of the overhead lights. Lighting can make or break an entire room. I'd also recommend Christmas lights and posters. And maybe a fuzzy throw rug.

Hi Hannah,
Thanks for making this video..
Any tips on how to study effectivly, specially for students with 'ADHD'!

what lipstick are u wearing? it's beautiful!
Thanks for the reply, appreciate it! I'll be sure to make a trip to topshop:D
finally somebody else that doesn't like tea! i get such death glares when i say it haha
Great advice and funny video! You know with the travelling thing though I always hear people saying to go travelling once you've finished school but with what money?? I mean it's hard to save up enough money to do that from just a weekend job when you're at school so what do you do if you don't have rich parents to pay for you?
Do you have any advice for studying in general? What methods do you use and do you have an "do's" and "don't's" that a student should do or avoid?
what uni essentials do you suggest to bring, hannah?
+Hannah Witton What do you need mugs for you don't drink tea! :)
Where did you get the LoTR trilogy that you have in the background?
I disagree with not going out every night in Freshers. Suffering from insane hangovers almost brings people together naturally. It's a great way to make friends.
How do you make friends and socialize if you have off-campus accommodation?
she could be talking about pickles, & i'd still find her voice so soothing.
any advice on how to find the right internship (maybe in the uk) or just in general how to find a good internship spot
but David Cameron...

+Lola Minney thanks I think we are able to change our A levels at the start so I guess I'll see how they go first and but yeah I'm glad I'm not the only one :)
You can always change. RS is good and most people who do sciences fail after realising it's not for them.
I wish the 9-5 applied to my course )': 8am-8pm if not later is the norm, plus weekend )':
How do you pick which universities to apply to and then which one to go to? This is proving very difficult
I start uni in two weeks and I'm freaking the fuck out tbh. I'm so bad at small talk and I'm just generally an awkward person so this shall be fun lol
I think Cards Against Humanity would be a great way to break the ice.
Starting college tomorrow im actually getting scared xx
I'm starting year 10/10th grade soon and I'm really nervous any tips to stay calm?? ❤️
So I'm going to start the second year of a course in another city and I'm kinda awkward and dorky.
My big worry is that there will already be established cliques and I won't fit into any of them, any advice?
I don't drink and I'm not really that into partying. Does someone have advice for Fresher's Week? Any responses are welcome! Thank you :)
Get involved in societies and 100% always attend the socials, you'll meet great people and learn pretty good drinking games

Avoid any degree that has anything to do with Liberal Arts. Best advice right there.
Can I have some help please? I have to pick my A levels soonish and I have no idea what to do!!!

I would say pick what interests you or what you'll be able to do well in. If you're interested you'll most likely work harder

You don't drink tea?! I've drank tea since I was about seven.
Going to school for the first time wow are you telling me got viewers that are only fives years old 😀🙈
Yay another Brit that doesn't drink tea yay!!!😄😄
How could I watch all your videos when you don't even like tea?
there are english ppl that dont drink tea? WTF O_O
Yes we do, in fact, exist
