- 3 years ago we bough an off grid derelict cottage in Ireland which was a complete ruin. before the construction renovation we had no running water and no electricity on site. We have worked very hard every weekend for almost 3 years to make it our family home. Join us and watch us turn what was once a long forgotten peice of irish history into a place we can be proud of.
This week we begin tackling a circle window at the back of the extension and plant our boundary

How can anyone leave a negative comment? I think you’re both doing a wonderful job, and it’s just the two of you! I’m enjoying the journey. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.🥰
Some of us are just old & grouchy. Doesn't mean we don't appreciate.
Thank you so much for appreciating that's it is just us. And you should see us When we are editing. Well I can't take credit. John does the editing as I mind our wee little mason but John is so passionate about people loving it as do I and we want everyone to love it so much so thank you for loving it. 🤗😉
Well, thank you for appreciating what we do and your comment has even more motivated us to give a better edit and try harder not to shake but also try better and allow people to enjoy our videos more. 🤗 like I say to John it's how something is said that makes a huge difference 🥰
@@Building-a-life please don’t worry about the filming & editing. You’re doing just fine. Btw, your little guy Mason is adorable.🥰
I believe with the good atitude you both have, you are going to do very well in the future.@@Building-a-life
I could listen to you both talk all day with your beautiful Irish accents. Can’t wait to see the brick work for the circle. Love the plantings
Thanks so much for that beautiful comment. I think I sound ridiculous lol. 🤗😂🥰
That bracing weather we all know and love I take it the average rainfall has been well maintained
Absolutely, we didn't need a watering hose this year. 🤣
A yew hedge might fit the bill, slow growing, easy to maintain, evergreen and easy to shape, great as a wind break and dense for privacy.
Well thank you so much for that. Good advice as like we said we are complete novices and all this is much appreciated. Hope we do the garden justice. Thanks so much..🤗
Yes, a few hedge is a good idea and it's very easy to take cuttings, so free plants!
Good job on the camera! No shaking!
We knew you would appreciate that. I was never more careful not to move my hand. Lol. So happy you enjoyed. Great hearing this from you as it means a lot 🤗
Thanks so much!@@Building-a-life
Brilliant. Toughing it out. Love the tear in your shirt. You're revealing your alter-Hulk-ego.
🤣🤣🤣 that test in the shirt took months of practice and work. A masterpiece 😂😂 thanks for your lovely comment.
😂
You guys are such NICE FOLKS - it’s impossible for me to imagine anybody so cranky and miserable as to leave a nasty comment?!
I would never have the confidence to attempt a round window - so I salute your courage and ingenuity.
I LOATHE “gardening” - as it must be done with a pick-axe and bowsaw here in Leitrim. So many rocks - so little dirt.
Well done on you both - it’s looking lovely.
Ah thanks so many for your upbeat and positive message. I hope you know that we needed that and appreciate it very much. I am so excited about round window and today we're moving the scoffold to get it up to the height. Thank you so much for your message. We both appreciate it so much. 🤗🤗
Your both doing a great job, it’s great when a husband and wife can work together 😊 very impressed with the work so far.
Enjoying the videos 🙌
Ah thanks so mi h. He's my best friend and means the world to me so getting the opportunity to work together on our forever home is priceless. Thank you for taking the time to comment. We love reading them so thank you sincerely 🤗🥰
Great video! So nice that you are explaining how to build a complicated feature -- a circular window made in brick -- and also how you are managing your landscape! Look forward to more videos!
Thanks a million. We are so excited for the circular window. Can't wait to show you all and hope you like the finished result. Thanks for your lovely message. As always, means so much. 🤗
Love your underarm air vent on your blue polo shirt, great idea for a hardworking man! XXX
🤣😂🤗 that's what I'm using from now on when someone asked about John's venting system. 😉
I love seeing your progress!
I am liking your channel very much. Looking forward to following future videos! Nova Scotia, Canada
Amazing couple, building your forever home, doing such amazing work❤ well done in tackling the circular window, looking forward to next video, garden will be amazing once the hedging starts to grow.Hope your cold has cleared John, take care hugs to Mason 🎉🎉😊🎉
Good progress made again, looking forward to your next vlog already! ❤XXX
Working through the rain, with a head cold, a trooper! I think your new plantings will be lovely in a year or so, enjoy them. Greetings from the countryside in Ontario, Canada. At least in Ireland you don’t need to worry about meeting up with a bear in your woodland walks!
Well that's so true. We definitely have no bears here. We are so looking forward to the hedging coming up and seeing them mesh together. We all got a head cold in the end but thank god all coming out the better end now. Even mason is a trooper. Thank you for your lovely message. 🤗
Very nice!
Awww hope your head cold clears up quickly for you.
Looking forward to seeing what glass design you put in the round window .
Thank you for shearing 👏👏
Thank you for the video!! I so enjoy watching you. You guys are fantastic ❤
Ah thanks a million. That's lifted our hearts so thank you so much..🤗
@@Building-a-life you guys lift me up. THANK YOU.
Great work. Would just add thet he hedging plants should have soil firmly pushed in around them to remove any air pockets & ensure roots are fully in contact with soil. Good luck
Thanks so much for that great advice as we're getting more hedging tomorrow and planting them the weekend so knowing this is brilliant. Thanks so so much. Appreciate it. 🤗
Amazing
I adore Red Robin and Portuguese Laurel is also a beautiful plant, loads of colour, well done guys, hope that head cold has cleared. Keep on going, amazing to watch while Storm Agnes is blowing outside. Make sure to water that portugese laurel in dry spells if we ever get a dry spell in Ireland.
Super advice and thank you. We need all advice and boy God do we need it when it comes to gardening.jphns headcold nearly gone and I have it now but upwards and onwards and not the end of the world. It's a passing thing. We may get a good summer next year. PLEASE GOD 🤞🙏🤗🥰
I planted red robin and it really shot up quickly but needs watering regularly after planting if it’s dry I also took cuttings from mine, used a hormone rooting powder or gel and had around another 5 from the one bush, took them in over winter, my established red robins are about 12foot high. My Portuguese laurels have grown to a huge height over 5 years need lopping, didn’t have much success with cuttings from them though, all the best to you.
Love the plans, this addition is going to be amazing. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
New subscriber here, look forward to catching up on the vids , get well soon .
So happy to have you and hope we will always continue to impress and allow you to enjoy. 🤗🥰
Red Robbins look great but you do have to keep trimming and shaping them or they will run amok
Thanks so much for this advice. We will need all the advice we can get. Happy weekend and thanks for sharing this. 🤗
Oh so funny, "what's it for" and "what is it" a real Irish woman to a real Irish man. lol
😂😂😂😂
