"whats the best way to make water clear resin 3d prints"
Me, who doesnt even own a resin 3d printer:
"Im listening"
real
same :)
It’s call having an interest in the hobby. Ain’t a thing wrong with that
FDM printers are very cheap. Theres also lots of cheap material, so getting into that hobby at all is a pretty low monetairy investment.
160$ for a good new one ;3
Clear spay varnish or similar would be better/faster
Was gonna say, a clear, resin based spray varnish would work better
Varnish will give a good finish but may yellow
@@infernaldaedra Not if you use Krylon Clear UV protection. It wont yellow.
@@infernaldaedra Resin Yellows Anyways.
@@Hellspawnxxx Krylon is kinda crap at that point I'd just use automotive clear coat 😂
someone should make the halo arbiter using active camo like that, that would look cool
I plan to print Bid Lictors, and von leapers so I can paint them Predictor like
Instead of brushing on the resin, I'm pretty sure a gloss varnish would produce the same results as well as create a nice base layer for your paints, if you decide to paint it.
It sure does! ruclips.net/user/shortsGiMX8Y0J_To?feature=share
Or just apply a thin gloss clearcoat using an airbrush to maintain more detail.
reminds me of those clear halo mega blox figurines
You can also just cure it and then put a gloss top coat on it of acrylic stuff, id also be less expensive too
This works but I opt for UV proof clear coat instead otherwise that clear model is gonna turn brown over time if it gets sunlight.
What about polishing with a dremel and wax? I guess that the problem could be related to trapped air
Couldn't you skip the washing and directly cure it? (I'm only used to FDM so maybe I misunderstand the sense of washing)
That is what I was thinking. "Once you take off the uncured resin residue from the surface, its bad. So put uncured resin on the surface and cure it." Maybe the residue will never cure?
It will coat more evenly if you wash then recoat. If you don't wash, it may come out "lumpy"
Washing gets rid of excess resin left on the surface after printing, you aim to put an even layer on when you do it yourself
ok so what i do to get very clear finish on ANY clear resin... wash and dry as normal but dont brush on resin.... instead use a high gloss varnish from a rattle can or air brush.... THAT is the best way to get waterclear prints without loosing ANY detail due to ya brushed on resin...
Anyone know if you could just airbrush some hi-gloss top coat on? Like mr super clear or something? Or is it just not going to adhere to the resin?
I printed a few surfaces for an automotive model once (double curvature but smooth). It took 2 days of sanding from 400 to 7000 grit + polishing.
WOW. Brutal, hope you still have feeling in your fingertips!
@@AndrewSink haha yea, it was quite painful, wet sanding during the winter in a workshop without hot water 😅
Is there a good place to find settings for this resin?
Anycubic has a guide on their site!
I wonder what IPA is?🤔 Google says it’s beer?
Isopropyl alcohol!
Why not just cure it without washing?
Washing gets rid of any excess and often uneven layers of resin from the model, you'll likely lose detail if you cure it on.
Why wash off the resin that is ashtray making it clear, only to brush on the exact same resin and cure it.. instead just cure the piece instead of washing it... Seems far more logical...
imagine 3d printing a whole army of orcs and say they are purple
Or an big wort wort wort Sangheli Elite Lizard daddy
I'm sad, cause I don't get it! :(@lucianosibona1228
“Sir, why do you only have empty bases on your field?”
“Well… i guess my purple orks past their stealth roll eh ref?”
“… i will allow it, carry on.”
For really small things I like to use a clear nail polish because it's super cheap and doesn't need a lamp for curing. I mostly use it for small things since it dries quickly and can look clumpy if you go too slowly on larger prints.
FYI clear nail polish will crack and yellow over time!
@FLOPPY1DISK oh really? I've never had issues with it personally. I find depending on the pigment underneath it can change colour but I've never had cracking happen
Tbh if you compare per liter odds are the clear uv resin is cheaper.
@@FLOPPY1DISK Clear UV top coat nail gel doesn't crack and yellow over time lmao. (I have them on my nails...) I think you're living in the 90s where ppl used lacquer nail polish.
@@KryaDiere I mean over a long period of time, not the time of applying them on your nails and them eventually wearing away LMAO
excellent video! 😎
..the rock was my highlight 😂
We've all been there! 🤣
What happens if you cure it without rinsing?
There would probably be a lot of excess resin in the fine areas. Brushing it on let’s you control how much outer layer you want to put on it
I just did my first two clear prints and did not wash them.
My process was to print during the day and left them to "drip dry" over night after the print had finished.
Then used then used a single drop from a Vallejo paint bottle to deliver the clear resin and the results were perfect.
Think of the painting on the resin as more a wipe. Too much will remove detail and take too long to cure.
I am absolutely going to do this.
I love that model that was shown, it reminds me of a Titanfall Pilot
Done this before but my prints come out great but are still sticky or feels like the resin didn't cure. Trying Minwax Polyacrylic Gloss. I like it a little better.
Same here . Remains sticky after uv cure . I dip in ipa to wash them off but it also wash off some of the areas and no longer glossy
@@waterskin7 I did roses with this method. I glossed them with a clear coat and loved how they turned out. I also liked how my parts turned out using the Minwax. I'll have to try thinner parts in that first before deciding which way is better.
All the regular resin crafting tips are coming back to life and being rediscovered by 3d printers 😂❤
Is there a way to spray it on? Brushing on seems like it would ruin the smooth finish
I'm thinking airbrush though I don't own a resin printer.
Man the onion articles as so good
I’m glad someone else got a kick out of it! 🤣
Wait you brush on more resin? And that resin is cured you’re showing on video? In two days that resin you brushed in doesn’t just revert back ? I’ve never heard of this - for me it just reverts back and I’d assume the thin coat just isn’t fully cured yet. Can you confirm you threw it in your Uv curing machine? Sanding with high detail grit works for me exposing the clear layers as this method you show logically in my head would just cover up that cloudy layer - t of haven’t gotten rid of it. But I’m open to learning more here as it seems to work for you
Labels are so you can't sue a company. They don't actually care if you do it.
Is it water based? Never ever had any luck with them not yellowing
Let’s just keep polluting our planet with more plastic.
How long did you cure the initial print before you did the brush on? I’m surprised it didn’t yellow at all that’s great.
A few minutes. It's been sitting by a window for a while now, and it's still clear!
Lol I did this with regular clear resins and it's almost the same results just slightly less clear
Am i missing something or could you not just cure it without washing the part in alcohol
I would love to see an ice man bust made with that
Why not just cure without washing?
would your share your printing settings? I can't seem to find any ultra clear anycubic lychee settings
Just use the manufacturers recommended values
@thepenguin9 not necessarily. Cones of calibration will show that there usually off up to 5 secs up or down. Also usually there bottom exposure isn't high enough either better to just take the time to calibrate it yourself. For best results
why are we washing it if we just put more resin on?
Len's please, glasses
Anyone can share the settings for mars 3? Please
Duuuude, add a very little amount of metallic blue mica powder. And a very small amount of chrome pigment. CORTANA❤
That's an awesome idea!
Airbrush it on like some do to remove voxel lines etc works great just be in a high ventilation area
Wouldn't you need to thin it for that? What would you even thin resin with?
@blackhoneyboi alcohol would work wouldn't it?
@@miguellopez3392 I would imagine that would separate and dry out almost immediately, but I could be wrong.
@blackhoneyboi yeah that seems likely maybe a Mr hobby leveling thiner would work better.
Just use gloss varnish.
What uv flashlight you use?
I can't even be in the same room as resin
Have you considered printing a high quality mold, casting it in rubber, and then doing a clear epoxy pour?
Yes.
@@AndrewSink 👍
Make a clear resin of predator

Song name?
What about just using heat ?
Just use gloss vanish
torch it a little?
what are the settings

So this is what I do and my prints come out very clear. I don’t wash it once it’s done. I simply stand it up, let the excess resin drip to the bottom. After some time, wipe off the bottom, cure it. It stays clear but it’s tacky so to finish it off I stand it in a jar of distilled water and cure it one more time. This keeps it clear and removes the tackiness. I’m only curing it for 30 seconds both times but I also have my curing station lid wrapped with aluminum foil which cures it very well in less time.
Is it sticky?
I’m doing this currently and after brushing on the resin it’s taking forever to cure. 20 plus minutes in my elegoo mercury cure station. Now I’m holding a uv light to it as I type this and it’s still wet. I only brushed a very thin layer on my print. Am I doing something wrong? Any tips?
tnx. if i skip whashing model procedure and go strait to cure it - what will this make it same glossy-water-transparent effect
85th
I dip it in the high gloss uv resin (either leftovers or new) instead of brushing so no brush strokes while holding a uv flashlight real quick then finish the cure in a water bath + alcohol under and over uv lights
If you do a Mild buff first, then Spray on a coating you will get some of the best results
This is so cool! I wish it would be possible to get the movable 3D printed dragon's like this as a transparent 3d dragon keychain would be so cool!
Either use glossy clearcoat varnish spray or use a glossy airbrush varnish (the last can even be brushed on if you don't have an airbrush), instead.
good enough for led beam optics?
Haven't tested it, but it's worth a shot!
what if you just DON'T wash it before curing?
This is kind of cool if you wanna print an invisible predator figure.
Just a shiny clear locker would do the trick. Easier and faster and thinner.
I'd be worried about loss of detail brushing on a layer but i cant see why a fine mist of mr super clear gloss or similar wouldn't do the same 🤔
Would a torch melt this? In our shop we use them to fix acrylic issues.
I need to know how resistant the printing with this resin is to temperature.
Question: Does it yellow over time?
It’s been sitting next to a window since I made this video; still no yellowing!
Thank you we were looking at 3D printing resin for prototyping parts appreciate the help definitely going to continue the research
Does this resin yellow with time or additional curing?
Could you also apply a gloss coat of varnish for the same effect?
Spray it with acrylic clearcoat.
Make some lens
i wonder if spraying with a solvent would do anything
Can you print a clear lens and look how perfect it is?
How long did you cure that for with your curing light?
I wanna see the base after sanding it and then brushing
oooo i bet you can make visors with tha
What's the name of varnish?
how long did you cure it for?
What are you using to UV - cure it in your hands? Can you please share the link for the product? 🙏
Sure! It's a UV flashlight: amzn.to/3Qg8RhO
Yeah, thats pretty cool
I do this and it's awesome!
What if you used a heat gun?
It looks really clear AND has a high level of transparency? Wow
Yeah, it works really well!
Or you could just spray or airbrush gloss varnish on it?
On the inside?
Ayo, i tried this resin one year ago and had problems with yellowing. How do you deal with it and make sure it doesn't yellow later in sunlight? :x
Are you sure it was this resin? They just released this particular resin recently, so it might have just been a similar clear resin!
I have had same issues with yellowing. About 2weeks later it gone yellow from the light
@@AndrewSinkthe anycubic resin I used was already out in 2021, so its not the same. Maybe I give it a shot again, do you have a affiliate link or something like that for their products?
Tourch works sometimes too
For curing?
the issue I get is that the clear yellows heavily during printing
With this material?
No with any clear resins. Including ones from Formlabs.
why not clear coat ?
You could absolutely clear coat!
I want that setup so bad lol
It’s not too complicated; you could make it yourself!
Clear coat is berrer its thinner and you dont lose the detail of the print.
Try going to a piant store or a auto parts house and get a rattle can of clear coat and try spraying a final clear coat over the top it may clear that fog entirely up
Acrylic clear-coat is my usual go-to, but I thought this was an interesting approach!
Too bad they haven’t invented a UV resin that can be misted on for a thinner more even coat.
Use Krylon Gloss Clear UV protection Varnish.
That’s my usual go-to!
