@smilingman4299 I second that. One of the best matches I've seen. And I gotta say, I can't help but feel that if Tilde had refrained from overextending off-stage more, he would've had that match in the bag. You really don't want Fatality getting back to stage before you do.
I agree that he’s definitely underrated. I think that’s due to the playerbase at large favoring easy to use, less technical fighters like Roy, Cloud, Lucina, Pyra/Mythra, G&W, Palutena, ect. These characters may not be the most technical but their more straightforward approach and mashy characteristics are a big sell. More technical characters like Falco may have a more unconventional playstyle but the rewards for winning interactions on average can be far more rewarding than what the rest of the cast is capable of.
@@Eggss_B His design is what makes him technical. “Up-tilt the character” is a meme at this point and while yes it’s an insane move, you can’t just run up and use it all willy nilly as he can’t rush down like Fox. This is a lie, tons of people play him online and in tourney. A falco is literally in Grand Finals on VGbootcamp the day before this video was uploaded
The combos may not be hard to learn for the most part, but his neutral game IS hard to learn, especially against opponents who know what he isn't good at. He's basically an "advantage state glass cannon". Falco mosty has fun with opponents who approach him carelessly, and appears to get a lot off of an exchange, but he has very little kill pressure and some other characters can match his best combo damage output with just 3 or 4 hits. Not to mention he's extremely light and has a tragically exploitable recovery.
@orangeslash1667 Depends on how you look at it. I won't argue that he can leap out of someone's reach where many others wouldn't be able to, BUT, other characters can arguably do the same thing because of air mobility. Falcos jumps can often be an over-commitment because he can't easily pull back very far. Plus it can also potentially set him up for a juggle situation. Depends on his opponent.

Wouldnt say his neutral is hard the amount of free damage he can sneak in through his projectile is a neutral advantage in itself. Not to mention its utitlity as a distance control and disrupter of your opponents movement in neutral. What exactly is hard?
@@AkuoSubliminals It's hard against people who know how to exploit his poor horizontal movement and the end-lag on his ranged moves. @AkuoSubliminals It likely would. Idk who you main, and I don't play online, so take what I say with a pinch of salt, but I solo main Falco and I can tell you, it's frustrating to play against someone who's good at keeping the fight horizontal. Falco typically likes it when people tomahawk-approach him. Keeping the fight as horizontal as possible is key, especially if some of your moves have some reach. And if Falco jumps towards you, it's pretty much a commitment, since he can't "pull back" much. Also remember that having both his double jump and phantasm are absolutely vital to him when he's off-stage. If you manage to take just one of those away, you just bottle-necked the crap outta his recovery, and hitting him becomes much easier at that point.
@@AkuoSubliminals I should also mention that even though hitting him in mid-air gives him his phantasm back, the end-lag on that move is abysmal. He has to wait quite a while after using that before he can move again. I get easily edge-guarded by people who know this.
I saw the title and was a little confused. Falco is pretty popular at a borderline mid-to-high level, significantly so. But it's exactly as you pointed out in the video! Falco's high jump combined with his lack of horizontal mobility is one of the main reasons why I don't play him. Luigi has a similar problem for me, although much less polarizing in comparison as his ground speed isn't slow. In general I just don't like the higher jumps very much, as it leaves you more open and makes it harder to hit grounded opponents with falling aerials.
But Falco covers this weakness because he can basically throw out an aerial at any moment he wants since his Nair is frame 3. His approach from the air is ambiguous as a result, he can cover if you jump or if you try to anti air.

I've been waiting on this video for a while. As a Falco main I have the biased opinion that he's one of the most fun characters to play simply for how rewarding it is to get those combos. He's definitely not easy to master, I'm still far from it, but he's got to be one of the most underrated characters in the game
It makes sense that you see Larry lurr in a video about people not playing falco. He's a dk main
How could you say NO ONE plays falco when you live next to Philly bruh
Why does no one play uptilt bird???
Am I missing something??? I see falco a lot in my local scene and online
“Why there’s no falco agenda”
Hey Vars, how about a Why NO ONE Plays:
-Corrin
-Meta Knight
-Yoshi
With even a touch of di or sdi, falco’s combo game moves into a series of reads and strings, and the character becomes much worse.
I thought Falco was popular In mid to high level play
You don't see any tournaments do you 😂
vars ii leaking with the hsr music lol
Great video on Falco’s strengths and weaknesses, but I refuse to believe Falco is less common than Fox in mid/high level competitive play
I don't know if you did one, but a Why No One Plays on Pac Man would be nice.
while i understand the concept of Falco not having as much of a dominance than his spacie brothers in terms of results, i can probly think of more Falco players at the highest level than Fox or even Wolf
Falco is super common???????? At locals at least
Exactly what I’m saying
NO ONE PLAYS FALCO? THAT IS INCORRECT!
Actually, only two people play Falco. Little Z and Larry Lurr.
I see more Falco than fox or Wolf players.
So you can jump after doing side B.? Since when.? 12:40
I like a lot this series, to understand more about smash
Do why no one plays jigglypuff, one of the best characters in Melee
Thank you for another banger Vars. You have the most intellectually stimulating smash content out here. I was wondering if you were planning a why no one plays Wario 😅. Thanks again and have a wonderful day!
Why NO PLAYS: Meta Knight
I'd also like to mention how falcos back throw is a kill throw that doesn't work properly most of the time cause the opponent can just DI away from the laser. Why is this still a thing?
At this point it’s such a thing that we just don’t rely on it anymore.
Yeah, even with Up Throw we can capitalize off of it even if the opponent DI’s because we’re in a position to juggle. Back throw doesn’t have that luxury
You’re black friend has a pocket Falco. (I do)
no shot this guy says nobody plays him
