If you are looking for actually high quality products, look for a leathercraftsman nearby, they usually can make something similar and usually for less than what your would have paid.

I get what you mean, but in the case of watches it’s the movement you’re paying for. Lots of Rolex are plain stainless steel but still demand prices above gold watches of lesser brands. Additionally you don’t want super soft 24k gold on a watch
Never buy jewelry from Gucci, LV, Prada and so on. You’re just paying for the logo.
Watch is worthy because they are timepiece with craftsmanship and engineering

Technically it has “genuine leather” it’s just not high grade quality leather.
Average person won’t know to look for this kind of thing and this wallet will break down very fast in comparison to a hand crafted thick leather wallet it’s sad people bought this for $650 and you could get a really good lifetime guarantee for around $100-$150
Only ricj people buy them, rich people who can afford to lose 600

This why you should always support your local or not local leathercrafter. :) They're less expensive and the work they do is phenomenal with actual high quality materials.

There's a big difference between buying quality and knowing quality. It is more important to me to know quality.
All your videos are very informative. I bought my first luxury bag recently and I had your useful tips in mind. Its very important to know what type of leather you are buying. Eventually I bought the YSL Le 5 à 7 soft. The leather is so smooth and lovely. I adore it. It was expensive but exactly what I was looking without having regrets.
I can’t think of why I’d ever need a $600 wallet. Hell I can’t think of why I’d need a $50 wallet
Scanner protection, durability, design, aesthetic, color, and quality manufacturing. It’s not rocket science but if you want a wallet that doesn’t look like shit all warped and old looking in a year you usually gotta fork 50$ for one but if you can do all that for cheap by all means. Might even be better to just buy a new wallet every year for 20 bucks but with scanner protection of course can’t be too careful these days
I have a canvas wallet I bought over 30 years ago for $20. The outer seams have only recently (in the last month or so) started to fray due to wear. I doubt I would ever be able to find even an expensive wallet that lasts that long.
Do you keep your prior dissections? Maybe if you can go back and recheck them? You could compare and contrast what they were doing versus this wallet of leather-suede.

You’re not paying for the quality. You’re paying for the brand/logo.
And that's precisely what's stupid. Being more interested in owning popular brands that are known to be expensive, so you can be seen as rich - instead if owning well made quality products that last a long time, even if whoever made it is unknown.
As someone who's worked in the industry, although there are people dumb enough to buy anything with a designer logo on it there is absolutely an expectation for an extremely high standard of quality as customers and the brands themselves want these items to last a lifetime.

At the end of the day it is and always will be the name you are buying it for, many people don't know the ins and outs of what it actually cost's , and the difference in leather making!
We see an item we like or see a celebrity that owns it and usually that's the driving force of our purchase,not how well made and handcrafted it is. And sadly young people bust their buts on a summer job for what will be their first high end purchase of an item that costs hundreds or a couple thousand dollars that in reality is worth maybe a hundred and sometimes far less. These videos are very eye opening and I'm very glad I've never been one to be a label whore or let what I see in others hands drive my purchases.

Yes, if it's Shell Cordovan leather. It's very expensive material and lasts a very long time.

I bought a black full leather purse on a market in Amsterdam (Albert Cuyp) for 15 guilders, worth say 15 euro or USD nowadays, 30 years ago. I use it every day ever since, with lots of coins, paper money, credit cards etc. and is still in perfect condition. Pure black painted leather. Brandless.
Same for a black leather belt.
Maybe things were better back then.

How to get the highest monetary value by spending the least possible cost to make the item. And we understand that economic concept as a sensible business profit model. It falls apart when they don't 'balance' profit and value or take into account customer satisfaction. But we have to take responsibility too as a society. Some of us buy these over-priced, 'branded' items and by doing so we tell retailers there is a high consumer 'demand', despite high prices and inferior quality, which they must 'supply'.

hard to cut corners if it was intentionally garbage to begin with and never was anything else. Status symbols are hot reeking garbage like Apple, Louis Vuitton, Supreme etc.
Though sadly really good brands like BMW, Audi, Lexus, Rolex, Mont Blanc and many others have become Status symbols. It hurts my nerd side to see them looked at like that and not loved for what they truly are

l have a wallet made of stingray (outer) and genuine leather (inner). l paid $40 for it and l've carried it everyday for 12 years. lt still looks new.

My father bought a leather wallet for maybe 20 Guilders and still uses it. You can see it's used, but it still does its job.

Allergoedkoopste portemonnee die ik ooit had was in de jaren 80 tijdens een vakantie in het toenmalige Joegoslavië gekocht voor een prijs die omgerekend misschien iets boven een gulden uit kwam, en die was van prima leer gemaakt, ging ook jaren mee, alleen omdat ik die kwijt raakte moest ik uiteindelijk weer een nieuwe halen.

As long as people need status symbols like this, they will be cheated by clever business owners.
I actually had very little interest in leather products and absolutely none in ladys fasion products. However, I came accross one of this gentleman's videos and his knowledge is amazing.
But why any human would spend a large amount of money on a product MULTIPLE times, that makes them appear to most the exact oppiste if what they think they do rather than help another human or living creature in pain or poverty will always be hideous to me.
That aside, again this guy is great - educational and informative

I’m not surprised these luxury brands have this quality. They spend most on ads and endorsements which is very expensive. Reminds me of the cheap cute items I find at our local asian shopping app which is sold 3x the price in US by popular websites/influencers.
I guess it won’t last long around blades and needles. A BV intrecciato has been flawless in my pocket for the past 15 years. This Christmas I’m planning to replace it with another BV. Also, my wife’s wallet is bare minimum 20 years old BV, which is also in great shape. I wonder how old is the wallet from the video and whether or not if it was stored in sea water.
Does seawater transform high quality leather into suede covered plastic? Do you know the term for that conversion? Is it like the way the sea turns glass into smooth beach glass?

My friend makes saddle bags for a company that sell for $40 at fleet farm. They also sell the same saddle bags to Harley Davidson which puts a small Harley Davidson pin on and charges $140 for the identical bag with the label.

I’ve had my fossil wallet for 15 years. It’s been ran over, lost, found, and dropped in pools. The outside is a very dark brown while the inside still looks new. I want to replace it but I can’t replace something that works just fine.

I bought Gucci wallet 15yrs ago for around $300. At that time $300 was a very big amount for me.
Some of the wallet finish scraped off in 3months 😂, but the wallet itself still durable till today, and the accessories gold colour still hold (i still use that wallet now). But really, people will think i bought knockoff from the look of the leather 😂
