  • We had strong winds called "Santa Ana Winds" today. It's a dry warm off shore winds blowing out of Mojave desert. It flows Santa Clarita Valley and reaches to the narrow valley where Santa Paula Airport is located. These winds usually crosses 40 degree from the runway. They also create strong rotors behind the hills on the south of the airport. Pretty gusty winds makes landing a bit challenging even in a gyro.
Gyroplane handles turbulence very well. Windshare, thermal, rotor (not a huge one) and even wake turbulence. It is more stable than many single engine airplane.
