I was diagnosed 2 years after this was released & it became my song to listen to whenever I was feeling like crap! Almost 20 years later & when I feel like crap, like today,I seek it out & sing along! Ok,we have come a long way with funding, therapies etc,but we DO still need public figures like Somerville,Elton, Annie Lennox to keep AIDS/HIV in the public awareness. It seems like this disease will never be fully destigmatised, but hey,we'll keep on fighting,YES?! Love you,Jimmy!
I have forever admired Jimmy Somerville for his brashness and "right in your face" politics as an early warrior in the fight to make AIDS awareness public. The AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (Act Up) was an early and passionate endeavor for him. Thank you Jimmy for educating, fighting for, reaching out and helping the gay community. Each and every person who has ever suffered, been humiliated, shamed and abandoned in the face of this illness lives on because of all your efforts. Let's ALL use the power within. We can win. I salute you my friend! Again and again~
I turned 50 this year I cried my eyes out, I MADE IT. unlike most of my friends, thank you Jimmy for this powerful record that made a generation sit up and listen. (one day I would love to shake your hand.)
I'am not gay yet I love Jimmy Somerville's music and his talent and from an interview I see is a really genuine lovely man. I think people who hate music and people just because they are gay are really sad bastards and need to get a life other than criticising people for their sexual gender. Enjoy the fantastic music and the amazing talent of Jimmy Somerville's LIFE'S TO SHORT. Respect to all.
long ago i know but sorry Homer that you write im not gay ;:( alone about that u should think again..i mean why u tell us that ? and when u gay ? what its WRONG on that ?
Thank God people can be theirselves more now, and nobody really gives a damn. How it should be. People are whatever they are Born. Jimmy did a lot of good bringing out Songs like this. Teens etc now, wouldn't have the freedom they have now without people like Him!
+Elek Ekberg He didn't do it all on his own. He ius one of many people can thank but do not place him on a pedistal. If "nobody really gives a damn" was true then "Take Me To Church" would not have been made. We have made massive leaps in my lifetime alone but it seems we are getting complacent which, even in the song, is not a good thing to be in the fight for equality. This applies not just to gay people as they can be just as prejudiced, biggoted and hateful as any other community because they are above all things people with all the faults and beauty that implies.
***** I know there are MANY people who have helped better things re Bi/Gay people. Your right about some Gay people being Phobic too. I'm Bi, but more Gay, and I can be very Homophobic sometimes. I don't like being like it, but I just hate the Camp Bitchy Lads/Men around, and also the Girls/Women, who strut around like Navvies. I just like people to be *ordinary* although I know deep down, there are people like I mentioned above, who can't help being like that. I also know a lot put it on, and also exaggerate it, as they think it's how their supposed to be. I can walk around, and nobody would have a clue about me. I like that, and I like people the same as me. It's nothing to do with being ashamed of myself, because I'm not. If something asked me, I would tell them. If they don't like it, then that's their problem! Thanks for your comment anyway ok :o)
Elek Ekberg Then you get it in the neck from both sides. Believe it or not in the area of prejudice I think bisexuals can have it worse. You say you like people to be ordinary. What is ordinary or normal? Being camp or bitchy is ordinary/normal to those that are, as is being "butch" for some gay women. I never use the word straight acting for gay people who aren't camp, because acting imples some level of deciet. Some of the campest men I have met have actually been straight. The ones that put it on could be doing so because that is what they think they should be like to be accepted. I used to go out with a mate when he wanted to go on the scene and believe me I was not one who would fit in, infact I stood out in all the clubs, because I had hair long enough to reach my ares, I am 6ft if you want to have something to give an image of the length. I am overweight, I wear what I feel comfortable in as I see no point in spending money on names and being uncomfortable subconcioulsy as opposed to physically. I would dance even with my total lack of rythm and grace. The looks I got were obviously ones of disgust or distatse, and so blatant even I with my difficulty, in interpreting facial expressions, could see them clearly. I was basically his comfort blanket and I was fine with that as for me a good night out is one where I have had fun. Wehn I am out with my friends that is what I have no matter the venue, a pub is a pub and a club is a club to me. If people are behaving in away that is comfortable to them and not harming someone else then they should never feel ashamed of themselves regardless of gender, orientation, race, gender identity etc.
+Elek Ekberg You're right about the internalised homophobia and I'm ashamed to say I suffer from it. I don't like effeminate men, it makes me uncomfortable. Yet as a gay man I shouldn't be prejudiced against other gay men.
Samuel Brooks You are assuming that effaminte men are restricted to gay men. I can only talk from my own experience obviously. All my gay friends you would never guess they were gay unless you asked them as they would abswer yes. They are what some would call "straight acting", I use quotes as I don't like the term as it implies dishonesty. On the opposite side the campest or most effeminate men I have met are straight. Most happilly married and have kids. They are just so comfortable in who they are that they don't feel the need to live up to the stereotype of a straight bloke.
Yeah,I recall being young, back in 1895! I have around 400 dvds & not one of 'em is Spitting Image, haha. So *COUGH* away, lol.Nah,seriously you should be able to view a fair number on here.Or maybe Amazon has it.Happy hunting. ;-)
Here we're and standing our ground And we won't be moved by what they say So we'll shout (shout!) As loud as we can And we'll shout (shout!) Till they hear our demands Money is what we need, not complacency Read my lips and they will tell you Enough is enough is enough is enough Finding cures is not the only solution And it's not a case of sinner absolution So we'll fight (fight!) For love and with pride And we'll fight (fight!) Standing together for the Right to live and die with dignity Read my lips and they will tell you Enough is enough is enough is enough The power within We can use it to win So we'll shout (shout!) I forgot about this video thanks for posting this. was one one the first members of ACTUP in early 1988. we'll still dealing with the same problems and new ones with aids. it still comes down to personal responiblity for ones self and for the others you in age in, safe safe
I like this song. Jimmy Somerville has a lovely falsetto singing voice. I think Gays have a difficult enough time in this world having to put with ignorant Homophobics out there who want to suppress the Gay community. I support Gay rights and believe in liberal marriage for all Gays and Lesbians.

Great song indeedy....mainly because of the fact that Jimmy has a fantastic voice...but yeah...great message to sing about...but it could be humpty dumpty and it would sound just as good...if I sang this song it wouldn't be here but I can sing humpty dumpty if anyone would care to join in....xxx Love n Light xx Tina { Bobbis Mum }

I've seen one photo of Uncle Joe & I used to ask mam what he was like but she'd just stare off out the window, clutching his photo, saying nothing.I overheard her once shouting at dad telling him,"You are NOTHING like Joe".Oops,I guess he just didn't measure up to his brother! I'm not too sure the English government,i.e. the dark forces, got into it so much, lol. But I guess it's similar to when an impressionist 'does' a celebrity. The celebrity's happy 'cause it keeps up their profile.Anything which brings attention to YOU.You know how celebs are,it's all,"Me,me,me daaah-ling". Right now I can't bring to mind an American comic of whom I'd say,"Yeah,I like him/her". Well,Reginald D Hunter makes me snot up my drink sometimes.
Hahahaha, mate I aint all that bothered about anything you've written, inadvertent or otherwise. The other positive about the site is if I get pissed of with what comes my way I can just delete & block. Appreciate what you're saying tho'. ;-)
this could be renewed for a new generation..instead of act up it could be about trans homophobia etc..enough is enough ..have images of loads of famous lgbt people and their friends family and the horrors that have happened..just a thought

Lovely sentiment, but not wishing to be nit picking, but I think you meant sexual orientation, as sexuality doesnt have any type specific 'gender'

I am not gay or lesbian or anything, And I don't care what his pant size is, I love his music and what he stands for. Go Jimmy!
Absolutely love this song and the message it sent. An absolute hero of mine!!!!

I am surprised this song has not been the anthem for the GLBT rights movement. This has always been one of my favorite songs !
The best! Une voix en or!!!!! Un talent hors norme...!

Jimmy Somerville....such a life's contributor. Amazing.
Here we're and standing our ground
And we won't be moved by what they say
So we'll shout (shout!)
As loud as we can
And we'll shout (shout!)
Till they hear our demands
Money is what we need, not complacency
Read my lips and they will tell you
Enough is enough is enough is enough
Finding cures is not the only solution
And it's not a case of sinner absolution
So we'll fight (fight!)
For love and with pride
And we'll fight (fight!)
Standing together for the
Right to live and die with dignity
Read my lips and they will tell you
Enough is enough is enough is enough
The power within
We can use it to win
So we'll shout (shout!)
As loud as we can
And we'll fight (fight!)
Till they meet our demands
Money is what we need, not complacency
Read my lips and they will tell you
Enough is enough is enough is enough

I just saw Jimmy on a Palladia recording of a big 80's Rewind concert. I'd never heard of him before, and I can see why he never made it to the US. Pure audio torture. Why anyone thinks this man can sing is beyond me. That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

You don’t have to say your not gay before stating you like someone’s music. Anyone can appreciate anyone’s music or talent etc. Like saying I like a female artist eg Madonna and quantifying it by saying: I’m not straight but I like Like A Virgin.

often enough to comment?
Nope, you're not wrong. Also Adeva crops up in there a couple of times too.
This is dedicated to the muppets running Manchester Pride.
He does like like a rather camp version of Wayne Rooney.
Look, it's Ian Hislop!
