Upgrading cars, a lot of work but they roll so much nicer afterwards. As for the town redesign, moving the main street to be a long the back part there is a good idea. As the town gets closer to where the viewing area is, I would suggest maybe some single story buildings so they don't block a lot. Maybe something like a gas station on a corner, but have it angled. but it is your guys layout, so whatever you guys do, I'm sure it'll look great!
Thank you David! If we share our plans on RUclips, that gives us some level of accountability, so we are going to work hard to see what we can get done.
Thank you Norman. As much as the layout of the town "makes sense" in the real world, from a viewing perspective it is not ideal for us. Next week should be a lot of fun rearranging things.
Hi John, It sounds like you and David have a busy week ahead. Good luck with the project. We're about to start work on our Christmas scene... Cheers James 🙂👍
I like it the way it is. Sure, I agree it doesn't look very bright. All you need to do is add some street lights and a decorated Christmas tree. Like the idea of a Tramway along the edge of the town scene, goes well with a Winter Wonderland scene. James delivers presents goods train style, and Thomas takes Annie and Clarabel a run Santa Special style. The American steam engines can help with the passenger trains. I'd love to see British and American steam engines working together. The little tram, I wish I had one, could also play a part. Rolling round so the passengers can see Christmas lights all around them. Of course, I haven't quite got as far as proper Christmas trains yet, but watch this space. I'm looking forward to giving my N Gauge goods train a Christmas make-over, with an N Gauge Christmas Jumper Closed Van that's on its way from Rails of Sheffield.
We are looking forward to seeing your Christmas trains Kelly! I think the change of the town layout has more to do with our viewing perspective than anything. We only see the sides of most buildings when looking at the layout, and we want to have a more direct view. It will take some experimentation to see what we end up doing.
@@TwoRailfans Only seeing the sides of buildings is part of what makes a model railway so much fun to play with. It gives us scope of only imagining what the whole structure is like, as that is the way we see buildings in real life. Only one side, leaving the rest to our creative imagination. For example, we only see the front side of a signalbox on a preserved railway. Magical. Leave the buildings on your railway in the positions they are, I like to imagine what they look like as a whole. You don't need a more direct view. Let me use my imagination to picture what they look like in my mind. It's a bit like Thomas the Tank Engine. In real life, different tank engines that don't look exactly like him have been disguised as him. Jinty, no. 7298, was called Thomas, because many young children likened him to our favourite childhood hero. Thomas is whatever children want him to be. The buildings on your railway are what you want them to be. That's what brings out the magic of playing trains in all of us, including you.
Thanks for the update John! Wishing you and David and the rest of your family a happy Thanksgiving and a productive and fun week next week. You sound a bit like me in this video... Solid plans on railcars, enthusiasm for the layout, but not to the level of working on railcars and engines! I hope to get a little done too. Cheers!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family too! We will see if we can avoid leaving the house for shopping with Mrs. Railfan next week to focus on trains. 😂
Hallo John, diese Güterwagen sind sehr interessant und ein sehr schöner Blick auf die schöne Anlage. 👍👍❤❤Schönes Wochenende und liebe Grüße. Wolfgang
Vielen dank Wolfgang! Schönes Wochenende!

Thank you, and thanks for the thoughts about the layout!
Sounds like a busy time on the layout, a perfect way to start Model Railroad season 👍🚂🇺🇸
And in my opinion, much more enjoyable than time spent in any retail store next week with the crowds!
@ Completely agree, much better than shopping 😎 I hope to get on some projects as well 👍🚂🇺🇸
Great share and update guys nice to have spare trucks and wheel sets have a great evening
Thanks Mike. That’s why we never throw anything away. 😂

Thank you Jesse. I really want to incorporate that trolley.
Looks like you're going to be busy next week.
My hope is to be home with David and not have to go shopping. I hope that works out. 😂
great update
Thank you Lee. We have a lot of work planned for our time off next week.
Cool video! Good luck with the upgrades. Joyce also has the week off, I might need her help with some track upgrading I need to do!
Thank you! We are trying to knock out a lot of the rolling stock in one shot, and are finally getting caught up.
