Hey Matt, I have a 1988 M998, soft doors, soft top, cargo cover over the bed, 6.5L engine, woodland camo. I love mine too! Get you a radio rack for the interior off eBay! You can mount so much stuff to it. Also your back seats can fold down to extend your bed. They have 2 twist locks and the back of the seat pulls out and you just lay it down flat and use the twist locks to secure it to the floor. The hood is fiberglass and it's pretty strong but you're not supposed to walk on it. Get you a brush guard and mounting kit. It has pull out pins so it folds down and you can open your hood. If you don't have the deep water forwarding kit then don't go in water deeper than 30 inches! The engine and trans dip sticks aren't water tight! The deep water forwarding kit comes with the snorkel, tall exhaust pipe, and sealed dip sticks. The front window folds down for transporting the Humvees in ships, saves room. Get you a CB radio from President. They are 24 volt rated and make yourself an aluminum adapter plate for the antenna mount on the back so you can mount a CB antenna. The turn signal is actually authentic military, not aftermarket. However your keyed ignition is aftermarket. Military Humvees have no keys, just a switch. I hope yours is the 6.5L because the 6.2L engines aren't reliable. And never, ever, EVER try to start the engine before the wait light goes off or you will mess up your glow plugs and they'll swell up and get stuck in the engine, not fun! I was in the Marines for 5 years and my co-worker was a Humvee mechanic for 10 years in the Army so contact me if you have any questions. I hope yours has a fuel access panel under the rear passenger plywood panel on the tunnel. Makes replacing the sending unit in the fuel tank easy. Dropping the tank is a pain in the ass! Hope you have fun with yours because I love mine too! PS: download the -10 operator's manual, the -20 service manual, and the -30 service manuals. Those are your Humvee bibles. hummer-hmmwv.tpub.com
I got to field test these at Fort Hood when they first came out and replaced the Jeeps. When all you've had were the Jeeps, these things were beastly. Your little field test was soft - we did things in the Hummer that I couldn't believe a vehicle was doing. We were so happy to turn in the Jeeps at the salvage yard. They didn't care what shape they were in, so neither did we, and we did everything we could to absolutely trash the Jeeps at the yard.

I hated the humvees, they were a piece of crap, always deadlined, but people just keep circle X'in them and thats why they were even more fucked, and never got fixed because the mechanics pretty much claim everything is operator level and then the operators fuck the trucks up even more.
Its strange, after driving this thing so much as part of a QRF section during three different deployments in Iraq and counting my life on it, its like watching a beloved old friend

Across the side of it you should get don't tell Mere in a classic military graffiti style writing like on the old P-51 mustang fighters and a smaller AR-15 eagle on the back right off the tailgate with a custom license plate that says "SO BRAVE"
"Look how cool it looks...." His enthusiasm has faintly rekindled my earliest memories of this vehicle before Monday morning motorpool made it seem mundane.

Matt, next step just Mount that BMG, then you will acquire the coolest RUclipsr ever who needs a Lamborghini when you have a Humvee with a BMG yeah come on talk to me I'm listening
I would totally put the angled back on, I've alway liked the look of them and also put up a turret mount with the armor siding on it as. I also like the special forces setup with the swivel arms on the side and its lightened for mobility. But angled back for sure if it was me and a armored turret setup.
Just looking at the disc brake set-up runs chills down my spine. Never mind the rest of it. Parts for this baby are gonna be like unobtainium, you ain't picking them up at NAPA. Love the vehicle, though.
eltsen nestle actually the brakes can be picked up at Napa, they calipers are the same as the amc eagle, only thing that is solely hmmvw is the portal gear boxes, and unlike many vehicles it is only made of parts from america.
No problem, there is a site the does cross referencing of on the shelf parts for hummers, oddly enough the steering column is from a ford Taurus and steering parts are ford f250 f350
I've been working on HMMWVs for 26 years. All variants. I served in Iraq as a turret gunner and a driver. Its a great vehicle. They have limitations but IMO, they have been great to me.
@@Brian.Rodriguez The military runs. 6.2s and 6.5s. The 6.5 is the best. It ran well in the desert. I operated it every day for over a hundred miles with no problems. They can occasionally hydro-lock in extreme heat but it was very rare.
Rich Hanley the thing is with military vehicles is yes they constantly break down but you basically fix everything easily because that’s the way the were designed
Another reason you can take the doors off is if you need an emergency riot shield. Make sure to have the heavy armored doors! Can't believe matt did not think of this! Pls do a video on testing the bullet stoping power of the heavy door to see how long it takes you to get trough. And why don't you use the grenade launcher any more?
I remember when I was in the Army in South Korea, and a Humvee needed depot level work. I'm not sure what the exact problem was, but the mechanics has pulled the cylinder heads off the engine and were doing something, they kept it all hush-hush, because if it went to depot level maintenance it would have taken far longer to get it back.
LMAO... I was thinking the same damn thing. I've never seen one that nice before! I've driven practically brand new ones before and they weren't that nice. LOL
Seeing you in that little pond reminded me... Years ago, I bought a military CJ3A for a 4WD toy. I took it to a farm pond, went out to the middle and stopped (keeping the RPM's up) because I wanted to see how the 4WD pulled. The water wasn't "deep" deep, but it was plenty inside, and there were decent, muddy hills on all sides of the pond. I took off to climb out, and it just didn't pull like I hoped it would. Oh, it came out with a little spinning, but I wanted that low geared *power*. Disappointed, I reached down to take it out of 4WD and I had never engaged it. It was in 2WD the whole time. For having a flat head 4 banger under the hood, that thing would climb a tree if it wasn't for falling backwards.
Sounds like this douchebag is jealous of this guy's wife, his ride, his life and he himself 🤣🤣 Commenting on here about his wife is a lame grasp when you have nothing going for you. Get off your dead ass, whoever you are, and you too can have what this guy has 😉
That´s the thing about cars, you enjoy driving it, but you really know you got the right one when you park it, turn around and just get this "yeah... that´s mine.. i love it" feeling. totally get it !
You need a slant back kit for it. Swap that power plant for a Duramax Diesel, way more power, far better MPG. Have the entire vehicle (inside, outside, undercarriage) line-x'ed. Oh and most important... check the frame for rust. Excellent purchase though sir.
Brent Bluhm why a junk Duramax. Go with a Ford 7.3 diesel. It’s WAY more reliable. My dad has a truck with that engine and it’s lasted about 18 years and still doesn’t have any replacement parts in the engine except for a chip.
holy shit 25sec to get to 60? well couldn't you just change the axle ratios and it would go faster? like I assume it has extremely high ratios to be powerful, so id imagine you can change ratios and go faster. can you even change axle ratios? I don't even know.
You get the humvee up to 55 and you feel like you are taking off, not to mention the back pain after you are done. And yes they do come with turn signals
The windshield is folded down during sea transport. Given the fact that I've driven those bastards so much I have my Driver badge... Fuck those trucks. None of them keep you dry in any rain at all, not that you could see anything with the shitty windshield wipers. You can't hear yourself think in them. You have to constantly fix shit. And don't even think about how bad of a task changing the tires are...
My unit's mechanics were on the ball with ours. We had little things, like the windows kept coming off of the canvas doors, but my shop had 4 HMMWVs and we only had one mechanical problem with any of them in the 6 years I was in. I have no clue if they just ran really well or if our mechanics were wizards.
A driver's badge ain't hard to get. I'm a mechanic and got it easy. These trucks are pieces of shit though. Notice he said he doesn't have A.C? Bruh that things got heat and cool air.. idk why you'd wanna buy one as a civilian. How the hell are you going to get parts every week when it breaks down for no reason.
my dad used to work in the ports in Kuwait. Before and after the war. He said they used to offload these of the ships, by running them off the ramp. they got serious airtime
Matt is like the most public, yet low-key, doomsday prepper.. He has chickens to supply eggs, he gathers water, he has enough guns and ammo to protect all of Texas and now he has a Humvee that'll run through anything and run on anything. I need to move next-door.
mje19D I was just thinking lol. First I see ChrisFix get that beautiful H1, then I see this in the recommended videos list thing and I'm like "Ooooh...I better watch this too!!!"
Ive driven those trucks for 20 years already, jumped them, and just about everything else you can think of, still made it through. Ive seen a person jump one over 20 feet into the air and broke off the right front wheel and the truck still kept going. great now I want one as well
@@SINcitySEAL govt contractors aren't necessarily known for quality work. They put the same Detroit's in the first Chevy diesel pickups. Then they went to a different style injector pump and they were known for problems. If a motor needs a rebuild at 2000 miles it's not the motor. Something else is going on.
I love the enthusiasm. When I left the military, I swore I'd never ride in another HMMWV again... Fast forward to today and I'm in the market for a HMMWV and/or a m1009 CUCV. LOL
As we say in Russia «Чем круче джип, тем дальше идти за трактором», which means kinda "The tougher the jeep - the longer a way to go to find a tractor"
I have submerged a hmmwv M 998 in Texarkana Texas. When I was in the U.S. Army as a 88m10. I got trashed and the M998 got trashed but I had a blast doing it for US ARMY testing.
@@seangilbert7365 Who do you think made the Army Jeep? In 1951 Ford Motor Company was awarded the contract to design a 1/4 ton 4×4 truck to replace the aging M38 and M38A1 model jeeps. The M151 was developed to specifications and guidance of the U.S. Army's Ordnance Tank Automotive Command. Design started in 1951 and testing and prototyping lasted through most of the fifties. Although the M151 was developed and initially produced by Ford, production contracts for the M151A2 were later also awarded to Kaiser and AM General Corp, a subsidiary of AMC. AM General built the HMMV.
You have purchased a fine vehicle. I had the opportunity several decades ago getting to know he pitchman for HMMVW to the DOD watched a few videos he used. It's more of a beast than people know. Not the best in MPG or speed but no other truck I know can be dropped on to a stump from 18" and not bend or have any damage.

You should get Rob and Nick in there with body armor and helmets and guns and go to Demolition Ranch and do some skits and operating
Cut a whole in the roof
No need for cuts, just simply take it of.....
Add the metal top on, when you do that you can use the turret hole for your guns. And it looks a lot cooler too.

He doesn't have a minigun, but he does have semi-auto (converted) 30cal mg. Also Brilliant idea dedicating it to Capt. Tyler.
szablewski thomas in a way it is legal in texas, just has to be unloaded and have a cover on the barrel I believe

Better yet Matt, you should mount a M134 Dillon Minigun onto the top of your Humvee!!!!
God yes
He will need the whole armour top and weapon mounting system but yes
more like GAU 8 Avenger, rip it off an A10
Jaydog1Party RE oh h yea
Max Otto about $250,000 will get him one
DemoRanch exclusive vehicle. You gotta get a m2 mount and you know it
Or at least mount his 1919
You should mount a M1919 browning on the top if you can and then shoot of off the Humvee (Like so he can see!)
That would be really cool!
Logman313 not real one
M1919?? I think you mean M2. 1919 is a .30 cal, M2 is .50cal
Bay Area Buggs He just did!
Ya but I didn't see a hatch but love your videos
Every vet: "Dude... why would you do that to yourself?"
Except this one.
Naw man.. love them..just a bad ass vehicle XD
Yes I was definitely thinking that. Those trucks were dogs lol
It's the cheapest Armoured vehicle you can buy, the next one up is almost 50k more.
They're nice without all the armor.
I've never had any interest in owning a Humvee.
Now, I can't imagine my life without one.
Adding it to the life list.
I'm so stinking happy for you Matt. I've driven Humvees a lot in the army. I never got sick of it. It's a proud day for the Demolitia!
joelnert Thank you for your service in the Army, may I ask what rank you were
joelnert thanks for your service
I subbed to you
I hated the humvees, they were a piece of crap, always deadlined, but people just keep circle X'in them and thats why they were even more fucked, and never got fixed because the mechanics pretty much claim everything is operator level and then the operators fuck the trucks up even more.
Thanks Julian. You'll love my content, that's a guarantee!
That twitchy dog with nerve damage looked SO HAPPY!!!
Its strange, after driving this thing so much as part of a QRF section during three different deployments in Iraq and counting my life on it, its like watching a beloved old friend
Me too. OIF 2006-2008 2-8 1st CAV division. I’ve always wanted to buy one I wonder how much it cost.
You should get custom canvas doors with the demolition ranch logo on it
Oh hell yea that would be awesome
He should put the demo ranch logo on the roof of it, now that would be awesome

Across the side of it you should get don't tell Mere in a classic military graffiti style writing like on the old P-51 mustang fighters and a smaller AR-15 eagle on the back right off the tailgate with a custom license plate that says "SO BRAVE"
Beau Roscamp I like that idea. But would be kind of a MEME mobile... don't know, but would be funny.
I think the license plate should say, "SO BWAVE" and then in a couple of years they should tease Lincoln about why it says "BWAVE" instead of "BRAVE".
Mat pauses looks at new humvee, “ God look how good it looks”😂
You should put a 50 cal machine gun on the top
Matts next purchase: C-130
Lucas M, I'd say A-10 Thunderbolt, then a C-130. Priorities.
Just don't tell Mere.
fully atomic 50 would not hurt my feelings
Coming in summer 2019
Matt buys the entire fucking military arsenal
And for his RC toy, he'll get an MQ-9 Reaper.
Matt you'll lose your man card if you don't mount your Browning 30 cal to it.
DKM_502 agreed! But wait post yours first
DKM_502 thaaaaat would be illegal

Are you usually uncomfortable while watching RUclips videos?

We want Mere's commentary on this purchase
Yurii Semeniuk probably something along the lines of "ffs Matt! What about our retirement?!"

Shhh! Don't tell Mere!
Nice! you have enough space in the glovebox for my Fiat 500.
I would totally put the angled back on, I've alway liked the look of them and also put up a turret mount with the armor siding on it as. I also like the special forces setup with the swivel arms on the side and its lightened for mobility. But angled back for sure if it was me and a armored turret setup.
No turret hatch
My very first Dr. DemoRanch video. Thank you youtube for introducing me this wonderful family. Prayers for the whole family specially for Mark.
i wanted to hear about the dog :(
If you go to his other channel called Vetranch I am pretty sure they will make a video about that too.
She looks part Australian shepherd which I love those dogs
The full video will probably be released on vetranch
Also would like to see what is with that dog.
I wanted to hear how Matt was about to change that dogs life for the better, then "oh he'll be twitching for life..." :(
Another cool fact about the Hmmwv is that, the one of the reasons it's so wide is to fit in to the tracks of tanks.
Dont know how that would work, or what your even talking about, but ok.
I bet when the tanks or other large vehicles leading the line compact the mud/dirt, the HMMWW tires can ride in the track left by the tanks
I’ve already learned more about hmmwvs in this comment section then google
An Abrams is about 5' wider than a Hummer...
@Kilo - but the tracks are like 2 foot wide on either side.
MrKenmartin...interesting. Thanks.
No problem, there is a site the does cross referencing of on the shelf parts for hummers, oddly enough the steering column is from a ford Taurus and steering parts are ford f250 f350
In other words it's a hodgepodge of shit.
eltsen nestle *unobtaininum*
😂😂
I've been working on HMMWVs for 26 years. All variants. I served in Iraq as a turret gunner and a driver. Its a great vehicle. They have limitations but IMO, they have been great to me.
6.9s reliable??
@@Brian.Rodriguez The military runs. 6.2s and 6.5s. The 6.5 is the best. It ran well in the desert. I operated it every day for over a hundred miles with no problems. They can occasionally hydro-lock in extreme heat but it was very rare.
You got a HMMWV! Now you should get a Deuce and a half. Those things are absolute beasts
Josh Lamoreau they are but you need a big rig wrecker every time something breaks. I'm usually helping my buddy fix his every 2-3 weeks
1:45 No Matt, I DO want to hear more about the Dog. I WANNA KNOW MORE!
I'm sure there will be a vet ranch video all about that pup
I really hope so. I would adopt it myself if I was in the US
Wait, can I promote, Matt's videos here?? Hmm, IDK, so just look up Vet Ranch, might be their in a week, or month, depends on what he plans to do.

Thehunting wolf not to mention swim out easy
Another thing is to use the doors as "sitting cushion" when its damp/wet on the ground. 😉
You should get a mounted .50 cal. Gun for it and the snorkel kit because that would look amazing!
General236Joe not really
it would look so stupid if it had the snorkel
You would think it looked good if you saw it @Madandjon 2
I remember when I was in the Army in South Korea, and a Humvee needed depot level work. I'm not sure what the exact problem was, but the mechanics has pulled the cylinder heads off the engine and were doing something, they kept it all hush-hush, because if it went to depot level maintenance it would have taken far longer to get it back.
...goes and gets the cleanest mil spec Humvee ever...
LMAO... I was thinking the same damn thing. I've never seen one that nice before! I've driven practically brand new ones before and they weren't that nice. LOL
You should put the American bald eagle AR-15 on the hood for the roof definitely get a 50 cal door Thanks
Allan A Yes, in a FDE silhouette.
I liked my HMMWV M998 but for comfort the CUCV M1009 is outstanding!!!
HOOAH!!!
The main reason you got it is because mere said yes

Duramax I agree
Don't forget to get a key ignition mod done for it instead of the basic turn switch ignition.
Nah, keep it the way it is, more EMP resistant than an electronic heavy Duramax.
holy shit 25sec to get to 60? well couldn't you just change the axle ratios and it would go faster? like I assume it has extremely high ratios to be powerful, so id imagine you can change ratios and go faster. can you even change axle ratios? I don't even know.
You get the humvee up to 55 and you feel like you are taking off, not to mention the back pain after you are done. And yes they do come with turn signals
Yo, the BMW community feels offended on that last one.
Brian Rossman mine did, but i had a crowe
Ain't raining , ain't training.
Piece of shit vehicles. Buy a Oshkosh MTVR. Now that’s a fucking truck! Loved my 7 ton in Afghan
my dad used to work in the ports in Kuwait.

I was watching this thinking Matt has to be a low key prepper...lol
Can't say I blame him haha he has some awesome stuff
Reason 11...compensating for a Raptor that broke the second time you drove it through some mud? Heh.
And told Mere before getting it.
I have a feeling that the Raptor might not have had an update since it came out.
JoshThe FordFan I think he should trade the raptor in for a Chevy reaper. But raptors are awesome.
BlowinSh!tUp The raptor wasn't built for mud it was built for desert running

You should paint the kit cars ar15 eagle on it. Thatd be so cool!
Matt did you know about the wall crawling? The front wheels extend past the bumper so you can literally go up vertical walls
Vance Hood Sure he does
Ive driven those trucks for 20 years already, jumped them, and just about everything else you can think of, still made it through. Ive seen a person jump one over 20 feet into the air and broke off the right front wheel and the truck still kept going. great now I want one as well
@Kalashnicough AK47 they run on diesel and the newer ones made in the late 90's on up have the run flats
Only some models have ATI system, but most don't. Now the LMTV has that and a Cat c7 engine instead of a POS Detroit diesel.
@@SINcitySEAL those mechanical Detroit's are some of the best motors ever made. With the right injector pump of course. They're legendary dependable.
@@verteup idk how we have multiple engines needing eventual rebuilds with only 2000 miles on then lol
@@SINcitySEAL govt contractors aren't necessarily known for quality work. They put the same Detroit's in the first Chevy diesel pickups. I love the enthusiasm. When I left the military, I swore I'd never ride in another HMMWV again... Fast forward to today and I'm in the market for a HMMWV and/or a m1009 CUCV. LOL

Buy 3 of the totally easy to get heavily armored doors. You can replace the two front doors then shoot the last one just to see what it stops.

The great thing, they don't cost that much at surplus auctions, but as you said, the bugger is titling and tagging one.
Milsurp Mike Texas is one of the few states that allow people to title these vehicles.
So I wonder if you can buy one that is already titled from Texas and just have it transferred to your state.
