Regardless of the plan, once you realize your offense is confused and isn’t prepared to execute another play in time, you call the TO. At worst, you call the TO around 16 seconds left, and you run one more quick play to the sideline that you either complete and get out of bounds, or you throw it away. Then you can either attempt a FG or do a proper Hail Mary play for the W. This is on Flus.

Yes but even before the timeout, there should’ve been a set play so Caleb didn’t need to communicate anything. It’s a 2 minute drill, you need to save time by removing all communication. The bears were not prepared. Belichick famously already prepared the Malcolm Butler interception in the Super Bowl. Good coaches prepare their teams for every situation.
The BEST option was to immediately call timeout after the sack. That leaves you 3rd and 26 with about 32 seconds left. Plenty of time to run a play and then bring the FG unit out even if the clock is running. As an added bonus, you might actually convert a 1st down. Maybe not so much by gaining 26 yards on 3rd down (though not impossible, especially if the Lions are protecting the sidelines too much and giving up the middle), but maybe an illegal contact or def holding. That would let you run another couple of plays, because now you WOULD be able to spike the ball to stop the clock.
Hopefully Bears get a coach like Chargers cause similar situation to me, Great Talent Allens A Monster WR Jesus Christ, but yh Coaching weakness and lose close games now look at Herbert succeeding

@tinkdnuos Stop trying to find a way to ignore Caleb's mistakes. The only way to overrule him is call a TO or run onto the field smart guy. They needed the timeout for the FG. Caleb blew it. You can't just scream out a play while Caleb is already changing it on the field.
I do have to ask, I have seen replays that show a play clock running as well. Does the NFL play clock run even if the end of the game would be before it runs out? In basketball, the shot clock turns off if it's under 24 seconds in the NBA. I'm just wondering if Caleb saw a play clock and thought that's how much time he had left and not the game clock. That doesn't absolve the coaching staff from calling timeout once they realized the issue with getting the play in and started.
I kinda get both of sides. Most of the time doing sideline plays don’t work, then you gotta go to middle of the field. So I get saving the timeout with that thought. But Caleb taking forever to call a play I think is on him. Like the Dallas game last year they had to go middle of the field or Steelers 2 years ago. Middle of the field is so often is the only way to gain yards from those tight games so I get saving the timeout. And look they went to the middle of the field granted they took a shot.
6:25- How do you know the other coaches were not screaming for a time out to be called? They may have and maybe Eberflus ignored them? The horrible results on the field is letting you know something highly dysfunctional is going on with leadership. Be well and be at peace.
►►► COACHING SABOTAGE ◄◄◄ Matt Eberflus' mismanagement (and lackluster leadership) has graduated into coaching sabotage. He's hamstringing this team, and he's happy with the resulting injuries. *Matt Eberflus is a double agent* .
I understand what eberflus was going for and the bears players def need to get to the line and snap it quicker but when 20 seconds roll off the clock you have to call a timeout at some point
Eberflus said “yeah we didn’t have an option because then it’s 3rd to 4th” Is it possible that he thinks that a timeout comes with a loss of down? Lol That would explain a lot actually
I don't know if alone it's something you get fired over. There needs to be more than a single mistake. Overall, the bears don't look bad, and I think they look like they're on the right path. If it was something that happens often than yes you get fired
On that 2nd to last play, we were like “don’t get a sack, don’t get a sack.” Then, we were like “he gets sacked.” I mean, you can be last QB drafted, and you know not to get sacked, when field position is crucial for a last-second FG attempt 😏
Yea he definitely deserves to get fired from that. They had an opportunity to beat the top seed in the league and yall blew it 🤣 2nd week in a row they’ve came back and still lost. Karma for doin Justin wrong 🤣
Until fans start boycotting the team, nothing will happen. Eberflus has one more year left on his contract and there is no way that McCaskey will eat money. As long as the seats are full on game day, nothing will change. Those Jews love their money, too much to make a change.
Right after Caleb got sacked if they were quick enough they 100% could have got to line and threw a quick pass for like 5-10 yards to get them back into field goal range and then call a timeout, and they then could have kicked the field goal, I think there’s two truths here, the coach should have called a timeout when he saw that everyone was confused on what they were doing, but Caleb also took his sweet time and let the time run all the way down to 6 seconds I think it was. But the blame would mostly have to go to the coach because letting the clock run out like that with a timeout still available is a major blunder and a bad look
I saw Bob Davie let the clock run out at ND and lose a big game to Nebraska years ago. We all were shouting to call a time out. I think it was Nebraska , my memory has faded...😮
I genuinely think he might’ve been high cause why was OUR coach looking more confused than Eberflus was 😂😂 even he couldn’t believe he let the time run out 😂😂😂😂
Jokes on Chicago. Eberflus was getting fired at the end of the season regardless. It was a job interview. He shut down the Lions in the second half, then gave them the win. When Aaron Glenn leaves for a head coaching job at the end of the season; Eberflus will become our new defensive coordinator.
The other play in that final drive that cost the Bears the game which is squarely on the coaches, but won't be talked about at all, is the OPI on Kmet. That was the second time in the gamehe was called for OPI on the exact same play. He clearly doesn't know what he's doing and that's on the coaches for not coaching him up better to not draw the flag and for not recognizing in practice and earlier in the game that he doesn't get it. Calling that play again in the most crucial point in the game and having it push you back to the limit of Santos' range (when you were already well within his range) is unforgivable. That alone is worth firing Eberflus and Brown at the end of the season, let alone the nonsense in the final seconds.

3:25 perfectly said
Somewhere Michael Wilbon was beside himself, and I'm here for it!!
Letting the clock run out with a timeout and in FG range is diabolical work!
11:18 EST: He’s still not fired. The McCaskeys don’t fire coaches in season, but it’s time to break the trend.
►►► COACHING SABOTAGE ◄◄◄
Matt Eberflus' mismanagement (and lackluster leadership) has graduated into coaching sabotage. He's hamstringing this team, and he's happy with the resulting injuries. *Matt Eberflus is a double agent* .
Just like with Justin Fields he purposely made him look bad
"Someone should have been on the headphones screaming timeout?" Hey, maybe the Head Coach should be able to figure that out on his own.
I understand what eberflus was going for and the bears players def need to get to the line and snap it quicker but when 20 seconds roll off the clock you have to call a timeout at some point
Eberflus said “yeah we didn’t have an option because then it’s 3rd to 4th”
Is it possible that he thinks that a timeout comes with a loss of down?
Lol That would explain a lot actually
The Bears coach just said I think we handled that the right way. Get him outta there now😂😂💯. This is coming from a Vikings fan.
As a Green Bay fan, Chicago is (yet again) in our thoughts and prayers.
The players were even like “uhhh yeahhh we did enough as players” lol
Tannenbaum just casually reminding people he hired Adam gase over Dan Campbell 🤣
Math Eberflus trying to get that bonus star for keeping a timeout at the end of the game.
That’s on coach and Caleb like you have to know the situation Caleb could of called Timeout as well but dam the coach was in slow mode ha
Caleb got his coach fired by taking the sack on the previous play. If he throws it away - the clock stops AND they’re still in field goal range.
As Bart Scott said, you can't change the play at that point
I might've done the same thing if you tried making me work OT on Thanksgiving lol
I saw Bob Davie let the clock run out at ND and lose a big game to Nebraska years ago. We all were shouting to call a time out. I think it was Nebraska , my memory has faded...😮
I genuinely think he might’ve been high cause why was OUR coach looking more confused than Eberflus was 😂😂 even he couldn’t believe he let the time run out 😂😂😂😂
Keenan Alllen- “felt like the players did everything we did to win that game…” ie the coach blew it
Jokes on Chicago. Eberflus was getting fired at the end of the season regardless. It was a job interview. He shut down the Lions in the second half, then gave them the win. When Aaron Glenn leaves for a head coaching job at the end of the season; Eberflus will become our new defensive coordinator.
Yep let not blame caleb tho. He can call a timeout or snap the ball at anytime. As a qb i need to know situation and be the leader.
He's been fired; happy day!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
We handled it the right way. We should have reracked the play and called time out. Which one is it?
THE NFL SHOULD INVESTIGATE MATT EBERFOOL TO DETERMINE IF HE BET ON THE GAME
_Thats how you throw a game!!_
