    That top lawns coming along great compared to how it was. We've finally got a run of good weather where I am in Scotland so can get out and do my renovation tomorrow, gonna be back breaking but worth it if it sorts the lawn out and stops the dogs bringing in the equivalent of the sahara desert in mud every day !

    If you have some I’d get some garden fleece on both those lawns! Mine has been 2 weeks in the back. Watering every day and have great germination. The fleece seems to keep it moist and imagine slightly warmer creating a good growing environment. The neighbours will think you’re mad but well worth it. Will also keep the birds 🦅 off !!

    I've also reseeded a couple of times this year already, just being impatient of course. Right now we are having some cooler temps again, begin of May seems better again in our parts of the world (I'm in the Netherlands, seems very similar in temps as UK, we are neighbors after all). Personally I'm considering using Tall Fescue at some point, seems more popular in the US than over here but its popularity is slowly growing I think. Also nice hearing about the Lawn Association, I came across it last year as well. I do also like Rye grass because its shiny & grows fast, but yes it will thin out. Especially winters seem quite unforgiving depending on the circumstances.

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  Месяц назад +1

      You're right about temps. They look to be creeping up next week as start to get close to May. And I agree about rye - I quite like the aesthetic of it. But like you said, winter just does a number on it!

    The temperatures are still fairly cool at the moment about 10 or 12 degrees and really low at night. You may have been better putting some fleece over the lawn to assist germination and keep the birds off.

    I follow all your videos.
    I’m just putting this out there if ok? I am disabled and my wife does our lawns. I bought a new Allett Stirling 51 mower, c/w 10A battery and rapid charger, also Allett grooved roller and also the attachment that can be used to put on QC cartridges and will fit the mower above. In all £4,600. This is 2 weeks old, never used, never been on concrete etc and so no roller scratches. It’s on carpet in my garage.
    I was diagnosed with cancer same day delivered 2 weeks ago, also my wife diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. This means with no real garden workers in my area and I know have never used a mower like this new Stirling, do you know of anyone looking for a Rolls Royce Mower, as you know by using one. I know I will lose money but if it went to a good home, I can accept that. I’m devastated by all this and a 2 week old mower with 2 years warranty registration with Allett complete. Would you or a customer be looking for one? I’m not letting a guy use it to ruin on my stone work around my lawns and will stick with old Allett Kensington. There is no other reason for selling and all genuine. I have all paperwork and letters confirming my cancer and that I've been bedbound for 8 years, and that my wife was cutting the lawns. I'm not sure what it will get price wise, but the company who sold, won't take it back and Allett won't either.

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  Месяц назад +1

      Drainage is quite poor with the lawn being quite clay heavy. I've improved it down the bottom with a drain, but the plan moving forward is to hollow tine aerate multiple times a year, particularly when we get to autumn/winter.

      There is a lot of good stuff out there. I think my situation is a tad different with it being so enclosed. It's just finding the right grass type that will thrive. If the bent/fescue on the bottom tier goes well, it may be something I do up on this lawn too.
