Unfortunately you won't be able to run 30psi with the alloy 5.7 even if it's a built motor. We found that out AFTER we built ours. They reckon when you start getting north of 16psi the bore integrity gets suspect and they tend to split bores. If you're going to build one, go 6-litre or cast iron.
Well.. if you lot concentrated on building shit properly instead of trying to be a MTOD/Roadkill clone, Ya shit might work right...but I guess if Street Machine tells you your doing it wrong..it must be so..
Michael Radelet Yeah unfortunately they're not as strong as everyone makes out - 6-litre engines are much better. Still 400rwhp+ is going to be alot of fun in that Skyline.
ya cast is the way to go for big boost, or maybe a resleeved block like the stuff Texas speed does. but that;s more than enough power for that r32 to be wicked fun
Good to see you fellas making the best of a budget turbo LS build. Not all of us can afford top end builds with mammoth hp. This is the stuff which inspires me. Love the show.
You guys are so informative thank you for all of this! And yes to all those goin nuts with your tunes..never forget to check the limitations of your block etc with boost yall will learn the hard way im sure.. these guys here know what they're talking about. Great work fellas!
"His struggle is man's struggle. He lifts my spirit." Love your work Al, and have been since way back when you were schooling guys on Rexnet and building stuff like the VK45-powered Commodore. Keep up the great work!
Woody is asking him 'couse many people don't really know the details, and Al doesn't say everything even if he knows everything. Just Al is waaay too experienced in that stuff and he is skipping a lot of details which he knows on the back of his bone. Woody is helping the not so "pro" viewers, thats all.
Also, Woody is bringing out the "slightly annoyed Yoda" character that everyone loves. Along the lines of, "will this fit on my Honda," but not as severe!
Great video as always guys. Really nice build. Just a tip for future videos, the ppl watching your show are car guys, we have been waiting weeks to hear the sound of that nice engine and those turbos spinning up, so next time you dyno a car turn the music down. The song is really nice, but it's the car we really wanna hear. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers from Denmark
So yoda watches deboss, my rig has been on a thumbnail for a deboss video. That means yoda saw a picture of my rig and clicked on it. So officially Yoda likes Suzuki sidekicks with turbo audi engines!
Soulware3D Torque is all. You can't have horsepower without torque and rpm. Horsepower is only an answer to a mathematical calculation of the two. Carry torque nice and high and BLAMMO...600whp @ 5500rpm. Don't carry it far at all and you have a Diesel with 600wt and only 230whp @ 2400rpm. How much torque and the shape of the curve is everything.
Woody is an incredibly gifted and talented video camera man and editor. Like, seriously, very, very good. His voice over work is very competent, and there's seriously nothing wrong with it. I absolutely appreciate the clear diction. There's a little something missing between the clear diction and a conversational tone. Again, you're doing nothing wrong. It just sounds a little bit like you're reading an in class essay at school. This is the right side to err on with voice over. I'm just nit picking at the moment, awesome videos.
I don't comment often but I'd thought I'd let you know I love this channel, you do good clean work and really know your stuff. look forward to every video and like what you do with mcm boys. Keep wrenching everyday guys.
WEAKKKK, lol. Seriously though, the LS can fairly easily make 5-600 boosted but if you pay attention and listen to their builds, they are at least pulling the heads off and redoing them. Valve float gets you pretty quickly. This engine has literally never been apart. People turning full stock bottom and top end much above this power level to the tires are just dyno queens and won't live long there. Stock bottom with headwork is a totally different story.
That end impression is exactly how I imagined those who complain sound like! Awesome builds as always, love seeing a skid factory as much as an Mcm episode nowadays.
My cousin's grand dad's LS1 makes more than that.. it makes 1500hp and its stock except for a modified blinker fluid reservoir. lol... I love these videos. They show the real side of working on cars and always make for some fun times. Makes me motivated to work on my own project car.. its a shame funds can't keep up. :)
Of course it's putting out around 400hp, it's a standard LS with two turbos. Not sure where people are getting the 6-800 estimates haha, you guys never said you were doing any head work or anything haha
Because you can make almost 500hp with heads and a cam. I helped build my buddies LS1 GTO to 415 whp with stock heads and a torquer V2 cam, FAST 90 intake and Cooks headers/Corsa exhaust.
We have stock block 5.3 ls motors on 20lbs daily with no issues. The ls1 my buddy was running with 15lbs for 2 years, before he went to a ls3 and twin setup. The lsx motors can handle decent boost in stock form.
I'm about to get my first forced induction vehicle, '97 Buick Regal GS Supercharged, 3.8L V6, front wheel drive though, but it'll smoke those front wheels. Grandpa sleeper, gonna be fun. Great build guys, keep up the good work, I like the laid back feeling of this video, that nice vibe when you're just tidying up a few things after getting a car together.
I vote al mentor of the decade. to see him smile and give two ok signs means! OH YEA!!!!. woody is gaining something you can only work for and hand down. wtg guys and hey from northern Minnesota us.
Yes Yes Yes guys, a Barra/Coyote/LS7/1UZ etc. Can make more power stock. But remember why they went with the LS1 here. Because there are about 19 billion of them on the planet and so they are cheap, parts are cheap and they still make good power stock.
Another Canuck here from Mississauga, ON. My dad used to have an old Torana with a GTO motor in it back in the Caribbean. Would love to import one for his Birthday one day!
It's silly to be any kind of a critic for these videos. These guys are awesome and they do what they do for a reason. And can only do it with the resources at hand. Everyone's experience is different and unique to them.
If you're curious as to why they aren't running more boost, it's because the LS1 block is the weakest of any LS block made they don't last long past 500hp because the thin sleeves.
Wrong. They can’t make more power because of springs. Valves just blow open at fuck all boost. All LS engine require valve spring and cam swap to make huge power. The stock gaskets and head bolts have no issues as proven by sloppy mechanics.
Tom Pickrell valve springs $150~200 sleeved block $1000+ tell me which is the bigger problem? LS1s are weak I have one. You can go way past what they're rated but like I said it will not last or after it's time to rebuild the block will be warped/damaged beyond repair. I love LSs but the LS1 is not strong compared to the others.
while the valvetrain stuff you mention is correct the ls1 blocks are pretty week in the sleeve area. i have one sitting beside me destined for an engine block coffee table with a split between the cylinders and it was a stock setup
I've really enjoyed watching this build come to life! I'd almost call it relaxing, at least on my end. =D What I really love about it was the fabrication work. Not show car pretty, but more than satisfactory for race car duty, and most importantly, function over form while still being well engineered. Hat's off, fellas!
All these misguided people writing "All these misguided people writing "first" ... Just enjoy the video." ... Just enjoy the video. Man, how good was RE4?
Chris Collins yeah the 5.3 is a debored 5.7 which means the cylinder walls are thicker which allows it to hold the boost. This is why the 4.8 is ultimate turbo engine.
Chris Collins 5.3 is able to handle much more power due to thicker sleeves. Ls1 is the weakest LS. 4.8 or 5.3 will handle about ~800hp stock bottom end with boost
It's a shame the keyboard warrior expert dyno tuner armchair mechanics ruin the general impression of the community by being so fucking loud and unreasonable. It's quite sad the guys have to address them every video to point out what real world conditions actually mean. Sigh...
I like it, it makes them look stupider than they are. Respect for Turbo Yoda for not letting it bother him and actually poking fun at all the Keyboard Karl's out there.
Actually noticed that belt was a bit slack in the previous video where you're revving it up in Al's workshop, assumed you guys knew about it! Noticed some oil(?) vapour around the catch can on the firewall during some of the power runs, something of note I thought. Oh and Al, that outro is golden.
You went from 362 crank HP to 438 WHP with just the gains from an exhaust? 🤔 Fuel injectors, pump, and bigger IC are basically no-gain supporting mods. Was that dyno'ed?
Mike Thompson that's including a dyno tune dummy. It's called turning up the boost - something barra's seem to handle a hell of a lot better than an LS.
Fuel injectors and fuel pump are no gain supporting mods? You do realize you can't put down that much power without extra fuel flow, right? And also, it made 446 not 438
Not a dummy, I know what it takes to make 460 WHP on a 2.5L 4 cylinder (STI) that I own. I was just surprised you could gain that much from just the added efficiency of an exhaust. Your explanation of "need more fuel flow to make that kind of power" is exactly the definition of "supporting mods" so I'm not sure how what I said was dumb. You're just acting offended because I questioned your claim.
Of course the boost increase is the rest of the explanation. How much did you turn it up to? I'm guessing no more than 15 psi or you're risking the reliability. Looks like they make 6 to 10 psi stock so that would be a pretty aggressive increase.
Ok got through the video, horsepower rating is a hell of a lot better than stock and for the boost without extensive mods to the engine I would say FANTASTIC JOB, good reliable power in a linear fashion, be proud of a job well done, Cheers!
Respectable numbers for a stock LS block and head, and one of the best things about the LS is they make everything for it to be built to racing standards and it's readily available.
Great build guys. 450hp is great for a stock motor. Next build I 'm gonna have to put my HP guess down here, I was close. I said 300-400 HP, but next build. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the shoutout! Cummins ftw
I feel like you and Alan would see eye to eye on a lot of things
Hey to all the Canadian Guys and Gals :D
Also TDI ftw! ;)
DEBOSS GARAGE yeah that was pretty darn cool. You're now diesel bros
Awesome!!!
You da Boss
Alan at the end lol
Yoda is such a hard person to read... I mean, like, is he happy or about to kill me?
Is he happy that he's about to kill me?...
There are more than just a few of us Canadian’s subscribed to this channel. Love it, keep up the great work.
Unfortunately you won't be able to run 30psi with the alloy 5.7 even if it's a built motor. We found that out AFTER we built ours. They reckon when you start getting north of 16psi the bore integrity gets suspect and they tend to split bores. If you're going to build one, go 6-litre or cast iron.
had a stock ls1 split the aluminum between the bores and the sleeves actually started moving up and down
Well.. if you lot concentrated on building shit properly instead of trying to be a MTOD/Roadkill clone, Ya shit might work right...but I guess if Street Machine tells you your doing it wrong..it must be so..
Michael Radelet Yeah unfortunately they're not as strong as everyone makes out - 6-litre engines are much better. Still 400rwhp+ is going to be alot of fun in that Skyline.
ya cast is the way to go for big boost, or maybe a resleeved block like the stuff Texas speed does. but that;s more than enough power for that r32 to be wicked fun
get an erl superdeck job and you should be able to push that kind of boost
Omg only 440hp at the wheels, my cousins grandads makes more then that....
For now
😂😂😂
Sheeessss people will only be happy if it's making 600 to 1000hp.
Be cool. It's a stock engine.
This is an outrage
Shout out to Deboss garage and skid factory! I watch you both all the way from Texas in the USA
Good to see you fellas making the best of a budget turbo LS build. Not all of us can afford top end builds with mammoth hp. This is the stuff which inspires me. Love the show.
I love turbo yoda man. This guy is a legend.
My favorite part about The Skid Factory is that they are aware of the Internet, and its professionals on it. And I love it.
Turbo Yoda is a legend
Another Canadian viewer here. I've liked all the builds so far. Keep it up!
Keyboard Warriors Commence.... !... Ohh... You already started..? Well... Carry on...
Damn it. I fogot the popcorn.
Even though you could get close to that with a cam and head work - just being able to hear that choo-choo fills my soul with warmth.
Canadian subscriber here!
for a stock LS1 no complains it's more than perfect for a street beast well done to all of you on another awesome build can't wait for the next.
hahaha the last part is pure comedy gold!
Windsor Canada here, home of the Windsor engine! Love your channel guys.
Boys those were goddam CARLTON DRAUGHTS! Cokes hahaha
Jolinator, sshhhhhhh.
And what do you think the squash’s were?
Yeah usually they are Mangos they are drinking.
Mothers milk
440 at the wheels on stock internals is nothing to be sniffed at. Thanks again for sharing this build with us.
CANADA GANG
I'm a Canadian and i enjoy watching your show thanks for the great videos
Woody was like a kid asking to many questions.....lol
The only stupid question is the one not asked.
It was good, Al doesn't really say WHY he is doing things so Woody is an excellent middle man.
Son of Eevil yer its all good just reminded me of my little cousin. Great show loved this build Jdm v8 all wrong but fuck it
Woody is asking him 'couse many people don't really know the details, and Al doesn't say everything even if he knows everything. Logic is sound...It must be so!
Here sir, you get one like from me. Lol
Corbin’s a great guy...we love him in Canada!
From Oshawa Canada, where that motor was built.
Greg Foster spent 15 days doing a job in Oshawa, barely north of the 407.
Fucking terrible job, nice town.
Greg Foster ,milton bud
Reppin' the shwa'! aha. Shout out from London, Ont.!
Blame Canada
Had no idea they built LS engines out there lol. Learn something new everyday. Not too far from Oshawa in the GTA.
You guys covered it at the last second, I was gonna say I remember reading swapping valve springs is a must with ls engines and boost. Great build!!
cool, i guessed 450 hp. i'm more interested in the torque figures and curve, cause in my opinion that's more important.
equal importance, one wont work without the other.
Soulware3D
Torque is all.

Turbo Yoda looking as happy as a man after a proper knob polish! Congrats man!
HERE FROM CANADA EH!

Best ending ever :D
And accurate too!
That 3 inch downpipe is BADASS, i can't stop smiling at its presence on the screen.
I laughed way more than I should have at that ending lol.
Canada appreciates you and your show!
Al seems like he's also an AvE guy.
bandwagon240 Well I never thought I'd see an AvE fan on an mcm video
Fucking love that bumbling idiots stuff
he actually is AvE.
everyone should be an Uncle BumbleF^&k Fan
@Zeke Clinton - I bet there is more crossover than you'd think.
I don't comment often but I'd thought I'd let you know I love this channel, you do good clean work and really know your stuff. look forward to every video and like what you do with mcm boys. Keep wrenching everyday guys.
LOLLL that ending tho

Ayy some love for us Canadian viewers!
That end impression is exactly how I imagined those who complain sound like! Awesome builds as always, love seeing a skid factory as much as an Mcm episode nowadays.
Never jumped off a 1320 video faster!
VorboteDesKrieg why support a channel full of racists? Support MCM instead.
lmao "racists"
My cousin's grand dad's LS1 makes more than that.. it makes 1500hp and its stock except for a modified blinker fluid reservoir. lol... I love these videos. They show the real side of working on cars and always make for some fun times. Makes me motivated to work on my own project car.. its a shame funds can't keep up. :)
The end 😂 hahahahaha
Haha I love the grumpy ol yoda defending himself there at the end. Love the show and the humor! Keep at it boys!
Way to get me excited mentioning toranas only to let me down that its not the next project :( haha
Checking in from Nova scotia, Canada.. Everyone at my work watches MCM and the Skid Factory!
anything over 400hp on that setup is respectable i think.
I’m your cousin who makes wayyyyyyy more!
Nice work guys another build in the books!
Couldve just bolted a turbo and injectors on an rb25 and made more lol
Always looking forward to Skid Factory episodes, awesome job guys!
such a tease only showing that torana engine bay
Jbwifi
Bastards.. The lot of them.
no turbos
It's nice to see turbo LS1 projects from start to finish...maybe someday I'll be able to jump into doing one myself on my channel...
You guys should do a sloppy stage 2 Cam and some valve springs and turn that shit up. Awesome build guys well-done for stock engine.
We have stock block 5.3 ls motors on 20lbs daily with no issues. The ls1 my buddy was running with 15lbs for 2 years, before he went to a ls3 and twin setup.
The lsx motors can handle decent boost in stock form.
Me personally? Going to use a cast iron block for my 240z.
Agreed source yourself a rb30.
Only MCM Skid Factory rivals Marvel wiith their post credit scenes.
I vote al mentor of the decade. to see him smile and give two ok signs means! OH YEA!!!!. woody is gaining something you can only work for and hand down. wtg guys and hey from northern Minnesota us.
Anyone like me that thumbs up the video and then watches
This is one of those youtube channels where I like without even seeing the video, you know it's going to be good.
Definitely Canadian viewers. Love the skid factory.
Yes Yes Yes guys, a Barra/Coyote/LS7/1UZ etc. Can make more power stock. But remember why they went with the LS1 here. Because there are about 19 billion of them on the planet and so they are cheap, parts are cheap and they still make good power stock.

DEBOSS GARAGE!! nice
It's silly to be any kind of a critic for these videos. These guys are awesome and they do what they do for a reason. And can only do it with the resources at hand.
Everyone's experience is different and unique to them.
Last time I was this early the internet hadn't been invented yet.
I'll have to come back to see how many horsepower's it will make though.
400whp in that car would be what I'd aim to hit. A nice useable amount for a daily.
Lovely motor you lads have built, looking forward to the next one!
If you're curious as to why they aren't running more boost, it's because the LS1 block is the weakest of any LS block made they don't last long past 500hp because the thin sleeves.
Trevor Blain yes precisely, without modifications to the block etc..will cause damage for nothing..well for stupidity I guess
The sloppy stage 2 cam is only $268 on amazon right now
while the valvetrain stuff you mention is correct the ls1 blocks are pretty week in the sleeve area. i have one sitting beside me destined for an engine block coffee table with a split between the cylinders and it was a stock setup
I've really enjoyed watching this build come to life! I'd almost call it relaxing, at least on my end. =D What I really love about it was the fabrication work. Not show car pretty, but more than satisfactory for race car duty, and most importantly, function over form while still being well engineered. Hat's off, fellas!
All these misguided people writing "first" ... Just enjoy the video.
All these misguided people writing "All these misguided people writing "first" ... Just enjoy the video." ... Just enjoy the video.
Man, how good was RE4?
Im with you om that one :') about 100 people all trying to comment first at the same time.. Surely they can be a little more creative
First
Next come the peanuts that ask if this was filmed with a potato. Then come the people defending the peanut....
That's what they say every time they bang a virgin.
Another Canadian checking in here. I watch every episode!
440 not bad but those engines stock bottom end can take soo much more. Kinda a waste to even turbo one for that, can make that pretty easy N/A
Chris Collins it's stock top and bottom.
But booossttttttttt!!!
And? Completely stock 5.3's have been to 800
Chris Collins yeah the 5.3 is a debored 5.7 which means the cylinder walls are thicker which allows it to hold the boost. This is why the 4.8 is ultimate turbo engine.
Chris Collins 5.3 is able to handle much more power due to thicker sleeves. Ls1 is the weakest LS. 4.8 or 5.3 will handle about ~800hp stock bottom end with boost
Canadian viewer here, love your show!
First, from China!
Nobody cares
keesie75 I care..
I also care. Greetings China, from Canada. :)
First clone from china!
Cinese anchio!
Awesome... sounds lush!! Massive air high 5 to Yoda and the skid factory team..
You guys are great! Love the video! Mid 400's is a great place to be in, especially for daily driven. Plenty to tear them tires up!
who the hell downvotes these videos...?
People who drive a prius...
haggard garage fans...
There is no down thumb, so no one as of yet.
I see 2 on my end.
I see them now too and I refreshed before commenting. You must be in north america. took longer for them to get to aus lol.
Actually noticed that belt was a bit slack in the previous video where you're revving it up in Al's workshop, assumed you guys knew about it! Noticed some oil(?) vapour around the catch can on the firewall during some of the power runs, something of note I thought. Oh and Al, that outro is golden.
LMFAO only 438hp? My stock XR6 turbo made more than that with just an exhaust, fuel pump and injectors, and upgraded front mount.
The ending was awesome, and makes a valid point
Ok got through the video, horsepower rating is a hell of a lot better than stock and for the boost without extensive mods to the engine I would say FANTASTIC JOB, good reliable power in a linear fashion, be proud of a job well done, Cheers!
That power level is going to be wicked fun and pretty damn fast without much risk of killing the engine. That is pretty much all you want.
Al is such a character, love it!
Such a fun build, hope to see more of it in the future
This Canadian loves the skid factory
Dallas Texas, I always enjoy watching your projects, keep up the great work.
From Calgary Alberta Canada. Keep up the great work guys!!
This video was all banter, so good
The ending bit was great. Its a stock engine ! I cant wait until Matt decides to build it.
I’d be happy with that. Such a cool project anyway!! Great work!!
My god, that Kramer portrait gets my every time.
Nice touch a the end, Turbo Yoda. That should be added to all car tuning videos! :)
Another sweet vid. Nice to see one a bit longer this time. Please make that a thing x
Thanks for the Deboss tip... good fun.
