Since 001 uses memories of anger, sadness and negative emotions to fuel his power it makes sense that vecna preys on people suffering from guilt and sadness, and hence why he becomes stronger every time he kills someone. He takes in those negative memories and uses them to fuel his power

He's literally the smartest one in the entire crew. They pay that tribute to him every season. So if he's not appreciated, it's not because of the writers of the show. It's because the fans don't recognize it. Dustin (and Erica sometimes) is ALWAYS coming up with great ideas and figuring out pieces of the puzzle.

Sadie and Millie's performance are outstanding this season! And for Eddie and 001, despite being new, are very eye catching as well. This season is amazing with the cinematography and the sound tracks
We had a marathon party at my cousins house had we had a blast!!! Unfortunately I was only able to watch episodes 1-5 because I had work that night. Today I finished episode 7 and I must say. My favorite season!!! It's sooo good!!!!! I love vecna. Probably one of my favorite villains!!

I saw a theory somewhere that in season 1, the only thing that saved/lengthened Will's time while in the Upside Down was singing 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' by The Clash. This would make sense because with this season, hearing your favorite song pulls you out of Vecna's control. It's interesting to see some things like this that otherwise seemed to have little to no meaning. Makes me want to rewatch from season 1 to look for more instances like this.

The twist at the end of Vol 1 was so damn good and was a real "penny dropped" moment. Plus all the clues were there throughout the series, it wasn't until the end that piecing them altogether made it all click into place (the biggest being the crack in the wall behind El and the way the bodies of the other Kris were contorted like Chrissy and Fred on episode 1) It's not until you watch it back that you realise the hints were there all along.
I agree, often times twists like these can feel unnecessary, but with this one, the twist makes you think back to all the hints and clues. Shows that this was well thought-out.
I literally looked at my girl and said “damn this writing is insane. So well done to tie everything together” my favorite thing is this show has taken such a mature turn! Can’t imagine how dark season 5 will be.

I agree. Just watched the whole season again for the second time and they were all right there in front of us. I picked up on a few, but that crack in the wall one I honestly didn’t catch until my second viewing.

This season is sooo good, they definitely went all in on this one and I’m so glad they upped the maturity too. I love all the new characters, the story, pacing and even camera work. As soon as Eddie started to say he was a coward and what not I knew he’s most likely going to sacrifice himself. That sucks because he’s probably one of the best new characters. Hope he makes it! Also I’m expecting someone Big to die, like maybe one of the main cast. There is so much build towards a tragic end.

There’s a lot of foreshadowing for Steve. But I believe it will be Eddie. Everyone calls him a freak and talks down on him. He’ll be one of the hero’s that that will unfortunately sacrifice himself. But doing that will make everyone’s opinion about him change. I also think something will happen to Murray sadly
001’s powers are not “natural” and we are given a hint about this shortly before being told who he really is and how the whole story comes full circle. Hopper mentions that he was exposed to Agent Orange and how it affected his daughter. In the same way, 001’s father was also a veteran and likely experimented on with the goal of making him a better soldier. The side effects came through in his first son.
THIS IS A GREAT THEORY!
May I ask, why his son and not his daughter too? I was under the impression Henry was older. I also was thinking about Nature vs. Nurture type things and the possibility that Henry is just "born bad", so to speak. Psychopaths are born and sociopaths are made. The scene of Henry in the attic with candles and almost looking like he was praying, (as he was explaining how he strengthened his powers to El), reminded me very much of a conjuring up of something or making a deal with an unseen force, type of scenario. Henry struck me as resentful brother when it came to his sister's happiness and positive energy. I was wondering if that's why he had tormented his sister first. Seeing his father up at night, sitting with a gun on the front porch to protect the family - observed the sleep deprivation and weakened overall ability to function and state of mind it put his father in. That's why when Henry said that his mother noticed that it was in fact Henry himself doing these things, he determined that he had to quickly fix the situation and that's why she had to go first. I'll admit, I may be looking too deep this part LOL .... BUT from a psychological perspective, and the overall topics discussed in the show (particularly season 4) I had gotten the impression and commonality being "warfare", various, different types & forms of warfare. Hopper said it, Henry said it, Victor alludes to spiritual warfare occurring in the family home, the military mentioned it to Dr. Owen's about "Brenner's little pet and psychic warfare/remote viewing" .... I'm just curious about what you think about anything like this or do you think that Henry's father was exposed and quickly impregnated his wife with Henry, only to deploy again back to war?

Anybody else thinks that “Vecna” is a very clever take on depression and how it actually slowly kills from inside.
Yes but it also is amazing on explaining the ongoing war of evil and good in our reality. Also the whole mkultra theme really hits home... This is a really good show when it comes to representing humanity and the human experience. It's beautiful because I truly believe this world exists within our world. That yes we have these individual problems and all together we are battling an evil that coats our world. We must remember our happiness and truth as humanity to save the world from evil.

The doomed feeling of the upside down is the same feeling as severe depression, I literally thought I was going to die in that place which felt all too real especially when i was fading away while in a hospital for 8 weeks. Monsters do exist within us and also outside of us and some are in control of our world and waging war right now all over the planet

Will definitely has a crush on Mike and the painting has something to do with it. In the scene where he was talking about how hard it is for people to admit their feelings with mike (referring to how mike couldn’t tell El how he felt) it was obvious he was also talking about his feelings towards him
And in Season 1 I think when Mike said, “Sorry you dont like girls”, Will didnt have anything to say besides to ride away on his bike

@@wadewilson8011 IMO he was too old for the cooties bit (it was season 3, just last season, when we got the “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls” line). Wills sexuality has been addressed since s1e1, when Joyce directly tells Hopper in the first scene that Lonnie calls him slurs. It’s definitely coming, and I hope they handle it well
I can only hope if Hop gets attacked by Vecna, that El will remember how much he loves the song "You Don't Mess Around With Jim"

I love the fact that even when a character’s story has “run its course” like Steve S02 and Max S03 they don’t just kill them off but instead weaves them back into the story to take full use of the actor’s talents and the emotional bond built with the audience I.e. making Steve a big brother figure for Dustin in S02 and continuing to develop his character in every season. Same with Max, expanding on her friendship with El and relation to the upside down.
One question that many people seem to look past is that Steve was bitten by the demobat.
He seems fine but this will possibly affect him in vol. 2 or season 5.
My (crazy) speculation is that it will give him some sort of power or ability
but it might negatively impact him as well (which probably makes more sense).
Yeah but in the end, I just don't want them to kill him off... he is one of the best characters in the series.

I think it will eventually kill him but not before he is able to transform into some kind of upside down centric creature to fight Vecna. I always thought he had a "Teen Werewolf" type look.

I had a thought, “why didn’t the mind flayre use him before” and I thought of an answer.
The demogorgon. He was bringing humans from our world. Not to eat, to use as demo eggs and fuel for vecna. When the flayre found vecna he was week and needed to get stronger, when the gate opened it sent the demogorgon to kill people, at which point a gate would be made, so maybe his power was limited to making gates and we all thought making gates is a demogorgon power. Its not a demogorgon power as we see that the demogorgon in season 4 would have made one to get out the prison, so when it kills someone vecna can use them to make a gate in season 1 this gate allows the demogorgon to hide and travel safely. In extreme panic vecna or the mind flayre could yank the demogorgon back to the upside down. When the demogorgon wanted to go back vecna would build its temp portal using the bodies it gathered and it’s connection to the main gate.
Season 2, with a firm grasp on the world the mind flayre makes demodogs and goes underground to speed up the process, more deaths, bigger gate, more gates.
Season 3, he’s cut off from the world. Still not strong enough to make gates from the upside down. The mind flayre goes on an 11 hunt as the main priority cause duh, she can kill demogorgons and close gates. but the Russians get a demogorgon…
Season 4. The Russians feed it, giving vecna more and more people, making him more and more stronger and then a year and a half later of dead people… boom. Hes strong enough to make a gate where ever he chooses from the comfort of his home able to make connections again to our world.
I'm digging this idea. I don't claim to have super in depth knowledge on the mythology/lore of the show, but this theory sounds pretty reasonable to me. 001 did say "With each life I took, I grew stronger," so your theory makes sense/there is at the very least, a basis of truth in it and makes it a logical possibility.
Not a bad theory but there is one problem Vecna revealed that he was behind everything not the Mind Flayer which honestly makes more sense since the guy from basically the beginning just seemed much smarter and more dangerous in comparison.
I certainly agree that this season of Stranger Things is indeed the most disturbing and darkest ones out of all the seasons, even though the thought of melting human corpses together to form a 30 foot tall monster is just as disturbing! I think that this is my favorite series along with the last episode of season 3 !!!

With the re-kindling of Steve and Nancy's feelings for each other, that's almost a sure fire sign that Steve is going to die saving Nancy this season. Almost guaranteed.

So I'm liking this season so far, my main concern is how jumbled each storyline is, like Joyce Murray and hopper crew, Steve and the others crew, Mike and wills crew, and elevens crew, I have have feeling it'll tie in together pretty nicely since the finale is supposed to be like 2h 30m long lol, it just feels all over the place rn, still really enjoying tho
this !!! I feel like the california crew haven’t gotten much screen time where I feel as though they needed it and the whole situation in russia got too much screen time

I felt the same way. That’s probably my only negative of the season it just feels all over the place with like 5 different stories happening all at once. I like how they tied eleven to back into this but I have no idea how they they are gonna tie hopper Joyce and Murray into this. Maybe eleven gets trapped by vecna and hopper comes at the perfect time giving eleven a happy memory right then and there seeing that after all this time hopper is alive

right theyre all seperated rn w joyce murray and hopper in russia, mike will jonathan and argyle in cali(??), steve, nancy, eddie and robin in the upside down and max, dustin, lucas and erica in hawkins, and el and stuff at the nina project place.
so it quite literally is all over the place. but im sure the finale will have them come together nicely
Dude stranger things you have gone so above and beyond this season! So scary and confusing at first but omg episode 6 it all came together so perfectly! Idk about the rest of you but I’m so ready for 11 and 1/vecna to square off again once and for all! It’s going to be epic! Just makes the entire show make so much more sense! All along 11 and 1 were the reason for this upside down battle of worlds just amazing! Couldn’t have been any better !

I %100 agree!!!!! I'm loving this season!!! Vecna is such an awesome villain. I love the story connects to the previous seasons. I also like the Easter eggs, like the freddy Krueger references, the fact that they got Robert Englund on the show! Which has nightmare on elm Street vibes!

Will's painting is for Mike. Will likes Mike, but doesn't know how to approach the subject. This was hinted at when they were talking in the desert about how some topics, despite needing to be talked about, were too difficult to bring up.

But i do believe it will have something to do with Mike, as it has been heavily hinted to that he is gay, and maybe has a crush on Mike. Seeing as he was clearly not into the girl at school who tried engaging him in a small game of footsie.

Yep, there was also that scene with Will and Mike talking, and Will mentions the factor of being scared to tell people how one really feels because you don’t know how the receiver will react. That scene added heavy artillery to the foreshadowing of Will being into Mike. (imo)

Anyone else get the IT reference throughout this season? Maybe it’s a wild coincidence (I’d be shocked if the Duffer bros didn’t do this on purpose) but the year we are seeing in Hawkins is 1986 and the year the Kreel Family murder was in 1959. That’s a 27 year difference. IT was known to appear every 27 years… regardless if it was intentional or not I love it. This has been a phenomenal season and I can’t wait for July 1st!

My final theory on the Upside Down, Henry and Mind Flayer:
*Point 1: Upside Down is Henry's Mind*
The mind of each person is a dimension itself.
The clash of powers between Eleven and Henry was so violent that it opened a direct portal
to Henry's twisted mind by physically connecting his inner world
with reality and locking him inside his own mind.
Henry IS "Upside Down".
The name would make even more sense since it would be a mind that contains its own body
instead of being a body containing the mind as is normal.
In addition, that dimension and its entire ecosystem have always been conceived as a great hive mind,
the vines themselves could be a physical representation of his neural network.
*Point 2: Henry's Objective*
It is known that Henry hated the reality in which he lived and believed himself superior.
No wonder he wanted to create a new world tailored to his tastes in which he was a god.
According to Henry himself, his victims "live" inside him.
It can be assumed, then, that what Henry does is absorb the consciousness/soul of his victims,
after weakening, damaging and corrupting them with psychological torture.
In this way, by assimilating into his own mind that of his victims,
he adds more terrain to the Upside Down by incorporating the dark parts of the people he kills,
which, surely, increases his own power.
His ultimate goal, probably, is to expand his "ideal world" by consuming the minds/dimensions
of everybody and substituting physical reality for his own reality.
*Point 3: Relationship between Vecna and the Mind Flayer*
If all of the this is true, every creature native to the Upside Down is part of Henry's mind,
including the Mind Flayer.
In other words, the Mind Flayer could be the representation of Henry's consciousness fused with the
corrupted minds of all his victims, something like the true form of his "soul",
and Vecna would be nothing more than his physical body trapped inside his own mind.
This would explain why the Mind Flayer is shaped like a spider.
In fact, Vecna is probably perfectly capable of escaping from the Upside Down but, being Henry's body,
Vecna is his only weak point, since if he is destroyed, Upside Down will disappear,
so he prefers to stay safe within his own dimension and act from the distance.

What I’m really confused about is before she was in the scenes with the blonde guy. She was in the tank again. So that does mean the whole fight between her and him was not real? I really loved all the subtle Harry Potter references in Season 4:
(1) Papa’s ‘Project Nina’ water tank is basically functioning like Dumbledore’s Pensieve. There is even a ‘Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort’ type revelation that happens within its stored memories.
(2) The same actor playing the villain in Eleven’s memories also played a villain in Harry Potter as well (and mostly in a memory there too).
(3) There is a Harry Potter’ looking scar on Number 001’s forehead after the Hawkins lab massacre happened.
(4) The ‘satanic panic’ storyline where people accused D&D players of devil worship feels very similar to what some Harry Potter fans had to go through (being accused of reading satanic books about practicing witchcraft)
(5) Eleven remembers her mother’s love and finally breaks out of Number 001’s death grip, similar to how Harry breaks free of Voldemort’s possession by remembering Sirius.

I have a theory, when el met Brenner for the 1st time this season, he said that her powers were stolen. Its possible that when el closed the gates of upside down that her powers somehow got into vecna. in the last episode it was mentioned that his mother knew something was wrong with Henry and he was cause for everything going on in the house....so she hired a doctor for Henry ..maybe she had hired doctor Brenner...maybe that's why he told this line
No he said his mom planned on sending him to Dr. Brenner which is why he killed her and tried killing his sister and father but got overwhelmed by his power and passed out and winds up in Dr. Brenner's care anyways.
I always wanted to know more about upside down and the lords of that realm. The way they explained this in the last episode was truly epic, my jaw dropped...
The Hawkins lab massacre had some great clues! A big clue that Vecna was involved was how many of the lab victims looked grotesquely contorted (just like the cheerleader would be in episode 1 and the kid reporter would be in episode 2). Also you can clearly see the recently created (and immediately sealed) Upside Down crack in the wall right behind Young Eleven (visible in the ‘what have you done’ scene right at the end of the massacre).
So it’s love that ultimately helps her to overcome her enemy. I did not catch that. I still just thought she was pissed about being snatch from her mother as a newborn. Fascinating. And a new lens from which to view all her earlier victories. Were these all moments actually motivated by love?

I think ALL of the monsters in the upside down are previous victims... Henry said they weren't dead, they were in his head... It's why they get twisted and their eyes cave in... All of creatures are also designed as having no faces or "brains"... Probably ties to how Henry kills victims, and asks them all to "join him"...

one detail I noticed that was super cool, is that when el is in the tank being shown her memories, in the mirror she always sees her younger self. there are two 011's, the one with powers and the one without. when she is fighting Henry she shoves him through the mirror and it breaks, combining the two worlds and suddenly the el in the room is the younger one, the one with powers, and now she is the only version of eleven. I think this is the moment she gets her powers back. at this time Dr. Owens and Brenner also seem to insinuate that it was successful
I just want a scene where Eleven and Hopper reunite and Hopper goes up to El’s “Papa” and says “You are not her father” and just decks him, that’d be amazing lol

I really want to know how Kali fits in with this. My understanding is that she also had her powers before she ended up at Hawkins lab, and her powers are different from everyone else’s.
I hated her character. She was so annoying but she probably ends up returning to the show to play a significant role
@Shea Hardy Kali is the only other kid from the lab alive. Her powers are to trick the mind into seeing something, I think she will come back to kill Brenner and will reunite with Eleven. They will need her to trick Vecna. Kali is the goddess of destruction in Hindu faith, her name was not a mistake. Eleven has always felt so alone and I think in the end, she won't be alone to destroy Vecna and the Mind Flayer.
01 can make people see things and move things with his mind. 08 can only make people see things while the rest of the kids can only do things with their mind.
The lab kids were all genetically engineered using 001's dna so that they would aquire his powers. Some kid were more attuned to a specific ability than others probably. 002 was the more attuned to telekinesis, 010(?) was more atunned to detecting people, 008/Kali is better at projecting images into people's head, all of those are powers that Henry/001/Vecna has demonstrated to have already.
011 was probably the most well rounded and that's why everyone is interested in her more.

In one of the lie detector tests which I believe was on Gaten, they asked if one of the main characters die this season and Gaten said yes. There was also that one clip at 12:22 where Eddie wasn’t with the group in the upside down which believes me to think Eddie dies somehow.

As I was watching the final showdown between 001 and 011, I had started to wonder if he was Vecna. Then I saw the little v-shaped blood spatter on his cheek ( 1:50 ). Beautiful little detail that.

Here’s what I think. Eddie’s gonna sacrifice himself in Part 2, Team A (Jonathan, Mike, Will) is going to meet up with 011 as soon as she blows up the Nina project. Then they’re going to find Team B (Dustin, Lucas, etc.) and help get Nancy out of the trance. Hopper and Joyce are going to get all the information that the Russians have on the Upside-Down and use it to head back to Indiana and meet up with the rest of the group. After that, it’s going to be one final hurrah to destroy 001 and close down the upside-down for good. I think one of the main cast members is going to die besides Eddie but it’s just my theory.

Here is my theory:
I think that the upside down has always existed, but El was the one who was able to tap into it by sending One there and opening up the gate in season 1. The reason I think this is because characters like Dustin mention it has probably always existed and predates the dinosaurs. When the guys talk to Mr. Clarke, I think I recall them discussing that once a gate is opened it takes a lot of force and energy to completely close it. Since we know El's powers have been declining for a while due to suppressing her trauma, the gates may have not closed due to the lack of this very powerful energy that is needed. Brenner also notes that something is stealing El's power (presumably One). One is able to open more gates due to implementing El's powerful energy possibly.
I think that Nancy being stuck in Vecna's curse is going to lead to the group going into the upside down to try and help her. I also think all groups will meet up in a sort of final battle between El and Vecna in the upside down. I think the scene with Mike's mom and little sister will either be resulting from the US military or the upside down gates or something to do with Vecna.
Feel free to add onto this.
Also, the reason the upside down seems to be stuck in 1983 may be due to El approaching the demogorgan in season 1 while in the water spying container (where she opened up the portal). I don't necessarily think it has much to do with Will going missing. I think it was just a coincidence that El opened the portal and Will went missing the same time. I think this may be due to either the demogorgan holding onto that day that it was found and the first upside down gate was opened. Or, it could be that El may somehow be able to control the upside down and the reason it is stuck in that time is because she feels bad for having created the gate in the first place.
Murray did mention that Hawkins will go to “war” which foreshadows what is to come the last two episodes 🤭

Because venca uses sadness, anger, for his power. And 011/el remembering her mom wasn’t anger, it was love. I think it will show that anger/001 and love /011/el will have the final fight to see if anger. Or love. Will prevail.

This show is honestly one of my favorites. While I love the stories of most horror movies, I can’t bring myself to watch them. This is the perfect combination of Sci-fi, fantasy and horror.
I really like how the show made us think that El was a monster when they first showed the blood bath in the rainbow room. And then El questions Mike if he sees her as a monster, and in a way questions us if she is a monster. Ykkkk

They said Vecna was the essentially "The General" but it seems clear that he is the leader/king of the upside down and the main antagonist.
I was wondering about that since 001 said he loved spiders. And the Mind Flyers had the shape of a giant spiders since Season 2, as well as his flash re-creation in S3! Not a coincidence, to me… Then, in S3, when El sees Billy in her vision, the Mind Flyer’s voice “So much pain, we built it, we built it… for you”. That sounded SO MUCH like 001/Vecna, after listening to his words!

Given that Mike was extremely interested in and did have a romance with a girl from a very young age, it is a pretty safe assumption to make that he is very straight. Do you honestly think Mike will break up with 11 (who he has been into the entire show) and just randomly get into a gay relationship with his best friend in the final season? I guess anything could be written into a show but that would be just so out of nowhere. It would make no sense.

The thing I am most confused about is the Upside Down before Eleven tossed Vecna into it. Did it resemble our world before then? What about the Mind Flayer? Was it always there in this abys / parallel world? How are the Flayer and Vecna linked, who's more powerful, in charge, etc?
Pretty sure the mind flayer was like a god of the upside down, which before 001 was just a sort of empty land. Mind flayer looked in to 001’s memories and lured will and mirrored it based the upside down off of 1983 Hawkins.
The upside down is Henry's mind, it's his minds physical representation and El sent him into his mind (in the last episode she opens a portal inside him, sucking him into himself).
The mind Flayer is also a product of Henry's twisted mind being that everything in the upside down is a product of hes mind.

Theory: Will is having episodes with Vecna but he is keeping it as a secret because Vecna is controlling him
I actually like this video. No one else can explain the theories like this and what I mean by that is they don’t look into the teaser and they don’t show little clues have that popped up much
I also noticed in season 3 before the mind flayer attacks the cabin Billy gives that speech to 11 about how it was doing all of this for her. In this season during the 1 and 11 fight he mentions how everything he was doing was for her as well.
the painting is clearly a gift for Mike, the person he has feelings for. The contents? Perhaps it could have a clue. But I think ultimately it'll be used as more of an emotional plot beat than the rest of the story (something meaningful to the two of them, perhaps even a callback to something earlier in the series). But if they do use it as a clue for the overarching mystery then I would be very curious to see how they would make that connection
I was wondering if somehow Will dies and then the painting is revealed afterwards. If not this, I was thinking it could be a call to the past, a key to destroying Vecna. Kind of like how Will could sense the Mind Flayer even in season 3. Lots of possibilities.
love the video good takes on the season and theories from the trailers, although about Will’s painting i really don’t think it’s to do with upside down i think it was just part of the show hinting at Will’s crush on mike. he took it to the airport to give to him but after the awkward moment with mike not hugging him, he decided not to give it to him, and only after their nice convo before they leave California does he decide to take the painting with him to give to mike again probs at the end of the season. (Will has been hinted at being gay loads this season with him doing his school project on alan turing and the scene with the girl in the classroom)

There's another theory for Will's painting, it's supposed to be of him and Mike on the swings together. since that's where him and Mike met and Mike even said that was the best day of his life. people think that could be the way the Duffer brothers are going to have will confess his love for Mike too
With how everything happened at the town hall and the parents all going to the wheelers residence, I think there is a possibility that they’re going to find out the truth about the upside down and everything the group has been up to. I also think that Eddie will possibly die since he isn’t seen with Steve, Nancy, and Robin. But, Steve always talks about how he’s always being stuck as the babysitter so it could be possible that Eddie subs in as temporary babysitter
Would also like to add that Will might finally have a larger role to play within the last two episodes. I was rewatching the first season and literally in the first episode Joyce tells hopper that will is not like other kids and that he’s sensitive. There’s only one other kid that was “not like other kids and sensitive.” Looking at you Henry. So maybe there is some connection between will and him but I could be looking too much into it

He's probably not with them becaue hes playing the guitar elsewhere like the scene in the trailer. I think Steve will die, there's no way they wont kill off a main character & they've been building up the Steve & Nancy thing but surely wont reunite them as that would be a bit lazy. Alternatively they do reunite & Jonathon ends up dying somehow?

man i love this show so much. the genius of it. from all the easter eggs to other influential films, to the fact that i think it's a commentary on mental health and the real life strangeness of it and its darkness. i just wonder how they pieced together everything, whether they've had the crux of it all along and then added the brilliant details, or whether they've been snowballing it and creating this masterpiece. so good...
