The House was sold for 5 million or 8.5 million in Aug of 2020 (conflicting notices). It was a wedding gift for Laura Shedd and her new husband Charles Schweppe. The House was built in 1913 and she passed from a heart attack at 58 in 1937 at the Ambassador East Hotel. Her husband Charles committed suicide via gunshot in 1941 in the master bedroom, all his suicide note said was "I've been awake all night, its terrible". This is where it gets weird. The house then sits abandoned for 40+years, no one knows why, speculation is that Charles had it in his will, but that is just speculation (and with minimal maintenance done, so that it didn't become a ruin) until it is sold to a couple in 87 who spend a fortune renovating the place over 2 years. While the renovation is going on, the couple and others kept hearing strange noises and having some paranormal activity, so they understood the place was haunted, but it became worse and worse until the lady of the house went to take a bath one day. She had the water running and it steamed up the mirror and when she went into the bathroom, written in the fog on the mirror was "I Am Here" and that was the end of staying in the house, the couple leave, they got divorced and it is my understanding took nothing from the place when they left. The story has been around since then, the house has been on the market and no one seems to have made an offer in those years. No idea why, but many who have gone urban exploring around it get bad vibes, so maybe any perspective buyers who had looked at it has had the same feeling. Usually someone will take the chance to buy a place at a discount but in this case the discount seemed to have to be real steep. I wonder if they tried to help the spirit move on at any point in all the time it sat empty. There is no other information on whether the new owner is staying there or just sitting on it for now.
I live in lake forest and I am in high school and kids have broke into that house and said they herd gunshots from someone that committed seaside in this house a kid hung himself in it and a mom shot her self in it. I have been on the property of this house and saw something in the attic window. That is why this house has not been bought by some rich dude.
a lot of the crystal chandeliers are missing in the ads for this house. i wonder what happened to them? when buying such a significant house as this, it is important that all originality stays with the home. especially, when the asking price is so high.
We have a building in our city it's called the loyalist house . Oldest house in saint john canada . People say its haunted but I never have been inside. Tbey book tours in the summer .
I can't believe that people actually believe in this crap. I think people that have interest in the house keep insisting in these stories so the price goes down. The actual price is quite low for the kind of estate. I work in a mansion where a lot of people died during its live. All you can ear is just cracking of wood frame that is too dry in the winter and or wind blowing. If I ever win the lottery I would definitely buy it......I would put the condition that I would need to live for a month first LOL (you never know).
The house is worth 20 million and is offered at 9 million and you think people are trying to drive the price down? It once was vacant for 40 years and has had 1 owner in the 40 years since. That's one owner in 80 years. It's a little more history than someone trying to get a cheap price.
