I enjoy all the types of fishing you’ve been showing the viewers. I also was an avid fisherman on land and my boat and stopped almost 16 years. Started shore fishing and from my new 16 foot boat I purchased in 2021. So my son and wife are loving every moment we go on weekends and catch 12 to 20 fish. So glad you inspired me to fish again. Keep up your great knowledge you share with us all 👍

Grew up in Long Island and seeing your video brings back fond memories. The surf fishing along the south shore of Long Island from Jones Beach all the way out to Montauk point can be fantastic. As a 10 year old kid I caught a 20 pound Stripped Bass from the beach. Probably one of my best memories ever.

Same as you said in the last part of video. Use to go surf fishing all the time with my dad when I was a kid. 17 yrs later in getting back into it. Been going 3 to 4 times a week for the last month. Been loving it. Watching your videos definitely helped me learn different styles and methods of fishing which are working great for me. Thanks guys for bringing fishing back into my life, loving. Keep the videos coming!

Great videos yall. I'm sooo in love with Montauk. A word of advice/caution about surf gear- go to a scuba shop and buy a diving weight belt to wear around your waders. If the top half fills with water the weight will break most any other belt. Safer to wear a wetsuit- neoprene is buoyant. When you wear Korkers be sure to tape them on with duct tape or electricians tape... it also helps if the buckle is on the side of your ankle instead of the front or back. Also at night wear a headlamp around your neck... if you get smashed by a wave it will rip the lamp off your head... you may need it to signal to rescuers. Happy fishing!

You need Korkers to hope to avoid falling. Many on the Canal who don't where studded boots now have knee replacements or pins in their legs from falls. Never go on slippery rocks without Korker type studs and walk carefully and slowly.

You guys produce some great videos. Montauk is a magical place for surf fishing. It takes time however to catch a trophy striper. Fishingnj82 has given you some great advice on what to use when looking for large bass. Here are a few lures that are popular for big bass; 1-yellow Super Strike Darter, 2-of course a white or chartreuse green buck tail with a white or red trailer, 3-Bomber Long A in black, black and purple or chicken scratch colors,
4-Gibbs or other wooden metal lipped swimmer, and a large needle fish 2-3 oz.
If you have a 4X4 or not, try to get to Stepping Stones on the beginning of the outgoing tide. Good Luck and don't forget to post some more great vids.

Your welcome, I've fished the Montauk surf for over 20 years. As a rookie or "googan"(what a seasoned surf fisherman would call you)
I fished many a night perched on a rock under "The Light". It is not a place to fish if you are new to the sport especially at night. You WILL learn very quickly what to do and what NOT to do. If you're lucky you'll get some advice from someone willing to part with some knowledge.
Watch RUclips vids from John Skinner a very good surf fisherman who concentrates on fishing the Long Island Beaches.
Montauk can be a very haunting place for a fisherman bitten by the lure of catching a 50 pounder. Try to go during the end of September or October you won't regret it. Again, Good Luck.
      Phil.

Haven't fished Montauk since 1984-5, surf wise I always lost lures on the kelp beds. Boating off the point was always the best way. Those who fished back then, were assured of a mix of bass, Blues and huge weakfish (sea trout) (Aug-Sept)

With these colors!! I was using Hawaiian style top waters and killed the big stripers, from Bultimore all the way up to New York!!

Wind was flat calm. I managed one spanish mackerel, around a half dozen bluefish, and 14 speckled trout with two keepers. There wasn't a single big drum all day Sunday. I headed back due to a work issue (I was supposed to be off through Wednesday.) Today there is a nice spanish mackerel bite going on. Most of the drum are being caught at the surf near the inlets or up at Carova (north of Corolla beach.) Hopefully this storm won't destroy the piers and leave some structure so bait and fish will be around when I get back down for the week of the 16th.

    • @johnnyc4738
      @johnnyc4738 5 лет назад

I would recommend a medium rod; it's better for casting from the surf... a stiff rod is better for boat fishing. 10 or 12 feet is fine, from shore. 8 feet or longer, really. 7 feet or less, from a boat. There are plenty of locals to help you out. Don't be shy on the docks or at the bait shop. Good luck, tight lines.

I know this video is old but Montauk isn’t part of New England. It’s New York. Idk why she kept saying that. Either way, great video!!

Those headlamps will spook the fish. Use a red light and only for rigging up.

As a person who fishes for striper every chance I get it hurt me that you guys weren't chunking with big chunks of baitfish. Seriously it is ridiculously hard to catch a striper over 27 in with a lure.

+La De da it was our first time ever trying here, a little intimidating and confusing lol. Doing bait back in Maryland now, though! 👍🏼

I'm new to surf fishing and fishing in the ocean period. Ive always fished freshwater. Big into fishing for catfish. Also love to catch whatever I can. So this last week we went to the gulf and I learned that I could fish from the beach there. So I packed my best catfish tackle and tried my best but the ocean is a whole new world from freshwater. So to conclude I had no luck at all and didn't catch anything at all. I will say even with no luck that I'm hooked and dying to go back for some more!!!!! So I was wondering if you could give me some tips on tackle, rod and reel combos, rigs, bait what to look for when fishing. Anything would be greatly appreciated!!

+Bobby Ingram hey! I'm glad you are getting into some salt water! Honestly it's so rewarding. It will take a few tries to get the hang of it, but I made an episode for people just like you! Check it out, it's the "Ultimate shore fishing" video on my channel. Lemme know if it helps

there are spots in montauk that produce bass/blues 24/7 may-september. you just have to go way north and way south, and not in the tourrist lighthouse
