Do you respond. I have an 89 XJ that's reading 5.5v and is set at .94v. I have probed sensor side and no malfunction. Any thoughts?. Iv compared this to 2 TPS. The first 1 read 5.5v and the other 6v. Both checked out to work fine when opening the throttle. Am I to take the difference from the sitting voltage to the open throttle? Meaning the 5.5v sitting to 5.12 open throttle
Great video that helped me diagnose a bad throttle position sensor on my 1987 YJ 2.5. The voltage was .203-.206 mv at idle then never raised through full throttle. Good job helping out brother!
😁 Glad she liked it!! I used to be kinda shy when I first started. Now .. I just roll with it and have fun!! 👍 Your welcome and I hope the info helps!! Y'all have a great day!!
I have a 91 YJ with the 2.5l engine and the plug that plugs into the TPS is reading 4.9V on one wire and 4.7V on the other with key on and throttle at idle. It gives those readings even when not plugged into the TPS. Does that mean my TPS is probably fine? I’m getting codes 14, 24 and 51, the engine idles rough, stumbles at about 3k RPMs and if you press the gas too quickly from an idle, it will die, or almost dies(RPMs drop to like 500 and then goes back up). I’ve replaced air filters, fuel filters, plugs, wires, spark plugs, dist. cap, O2 sensor on exhaust, TPS sensor, map sensor and checked all the fuses. Any info would be greatly appreciated...
i have a 1995 jeep wrangler SE 2.5L & my question is what would make a tps go bad quite often? What i mean by quite oftem is almost every other mth & when i do change it i go threw 3-5 tps until i find one that works. last one i bought sept 10th and this one gives the check engine light every so often plus the hesitation! its right at the beginning of going bad & will only get worse! i have the replacement but i want to look in on WHY its constantly going bad, been like this lil over 2 yrs now & something has to give!
Good jeeping....Which throttle position sensor do you recommend. I clicked on your link and it did not take me to the sensor. I got a cheapy one and the cpu told me hi voltage intake. 24. Please help.
I need help. I've installed 3 TPS in the past 2 days. The work fine for 5 minutes then the code 24 reappears and I get rough idle and sputtering at a certain throttle positions. I tested mine. .87vdc at idle, smooth sweep to wot, and I get 3.8vdc at wot. Is it a bad power wire or bad ground? I'm testing the signal wire like you did and I'm getting good results yet my only code that comes back is 24. I've disconnected the battery overnight and get the same results. Could something other than the TPS, cause the TPS code 24 to appear? I figure if it is a bad ground, my map sensor code would light up since I think they share the same ground
I put my red test lead to the battery and black lead back probed to tps to find the ground wire. I thought only one should read 12v. But all three are showing 12v. This is a brand new tps sensor. Any ideas?
Like your videos👍...Should try having specifications accuracy so the VIEWERS can make their own decisions as far as acceptable specifications. Just a suggestion Keep Up The Great Work 👍 Yazmin...Venice Beach ⛱
I have a 92 4.0L and I’ll be driving and my Jeep will cut out but still be running and every once and a while it will be running but I’ll lose my throttle, I pull over and it’ll die I turn it off and back on and it usually starts right back up and I can take off again. Only once has it started and died again but I let it sit for a few minutes and it started and I was off. I’ve changed the fuel filter and crank sensor. I was told it could be an O2 sensor or TPS, or ignition sensor. You have any thoughts ?
Or, you are testing the reference wire. One wire feeds 5 volts all the time with the throttle closed, that's the reference wire. Then you have ground. Then you have the "signal wire" that varies depending on throttle position. Be sure you are testing the correct wire. If you are getting 5 volts from the "signal wire" with the throttle closed, more than likely you have a bad TPS. Good luck, hope this helps. Have a great day!
awesome video hey i have a question for you i have a 2001 tj wrangler it has a brand new tps but i am reading 5.64 v and it is throwing a p0123 code and there is no sweep at all it downgo up at all any idea what the problem would be? i have checked the clockspring and like i said it has a new tps in it
Courtney Godwin Potential ground issue to the TPS. First pull the plug to inspect the contacts inside the harness plug. Look for any of the pins moving excessively. If you have some electrical contact cleaner, spray inside the plug to try cleaning it out. Make sure it's dry, then apply some dielectric grease inside the contacts to prevent moisture and future corrosion. Clear the code and see what happens. If it still codes then you must test the wires in and out of the TPS. Plug facing you with the "hump" on top, from left to right,1st contact should be Ground, middle TPS signal (the one that will sweep depending on throttle position), then to the right will be your 5 volt in. Test the ground pin from the plug to the negative side of the battery first. You can do this test with the plug disconnected from the TPS. If you have no ground or sketchy connection, you need to start tracing the harness to find out why. You mentioned that you have 5.64 volts, so you have voltage going in. As for it being above 5 volts, YJ's (mine is a '91) aren't that sensitive as to voltage being a bit out of spec. I have access to an '00 and an '06 TJ that my friend and my dad own. I've changed some hardware out on those but haven't been too deep into the electronics of them yet. So, I cant say in detail how sensitive they are to voltage being a bit out of spec. Now, as for the center pin, the TPS Signal wire. Obviously is has to be plugged into the TPS, it can be a bit of a pain to "back probe" the plug and actually hit the pin to gain solid electrical contact for testing. When I get one like that, I push a straight pin through the wire then probe off the straight pin. If you still have no sweep, and have voltage going in, and have solid good ground. You have a bad TPS. Rare does it happen, I've seen defective parts purchased from an autoparts store. Good luck and thanks for the question, hope the information helps you :-). Please let me know what you find. Have a great day!

my wife was listening .. and LOVED your "budden..budden..budden" .. that could be a pick up line ... epic.. thanks for the info...

hi! do you know which is the number part of the tps connector plug for the jeep wrangler yj? thanks!
I have read that a bad TPS can cause erratic and or high idle,my problem, is that right ? I'm going to hopefully test today or this weekend...
+Ricky Rogers Yes .. it sure can.

If I'm pulling a solid 4-5 volts on the TPS sensor with the throttle "closed." I'm guessing I have a wiring issue upstream?

My throttle didn't make that noise when I moved it.
LOL .. that because mine had a loose nut controlling it!!
good shit bro thank you

my TPS reading at 3.76 on my 97 Cherokee.
Input or output voltage?
You say at idle it's at 200 milliamps and less than 5 volts at wide open. So, I think you meant 200 millivolts.
fedorov5549 Yep .. you are correct. It's volts.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks for showing what I need to do, now all I need is a voltmeter
You're welcome. You can pick them up cheap at auto parts and hardware stores. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Have a great day!
thanks
You're welcome!
This would have been awesome with a shop light above.
Can't disagree with that. Thanks for checking out the video. Have a great day!
