This is too relatable!! I went on the hunt for Otto the grim reaper squishmallow for a bestie's bday. A plush that sold for $25 is around $100-$200 on sites like mecari! Definitely not as bad as pumpkin kitty, luckily. Tho I had to be sure it wasn't a re-release due to jazzwares quality control dipping in recent years 😅 (and don't get me started on transformers or furbies...) Toy collecting is fluffy and adorable pain Gorgeous art, it brought me to that sweet Webkinz neopets era nostalgia ❤ glad you got your kitty in the end!
Oh goshh, that's still pretty bad! 4-8x the original price, holy cowwww xD Reselling can become such a heated topic in the collector's community, but honestly-- I think that's why there should be a hard distinction between "reselling" and "scalping". I see reselling as just selling things you've already had for some time-- and whether the reason is decluttering, or a person has fallen on hard times, or they simply don't want it anymore-most people simply reselling have no intention to exploit. With scalping, however, the prized item is bought new (in as much bulk as the sellers can) and the price is instantly jacked up artificially. What makes scalpers different from resellers, I think, is mainly the intention to exploit. Or, at least the intention to take advantage of people's comforts and desires. That's why I sought a 2008 one specifically! I like to think about it as rewarding people who've preserved a piece of plush history! Plus, I think the 2008 tags (and proportions) are much cuter :3 I miss build-a-bear's iconic "funhouse" font!! And also when their logo was a full-fledged illustration :) And also when Bearville existed xD Ahhh, the BAB golden days... As for quality control dipping, it's an unfortunate thing that I've seen happen with a lot of toys that make it big :') And I've seen it in the sanrio squishmallows at Boxlunch especially :') Some people who have both the 2008 pumpkin kitty and 2023 vault edition have said the same about the 2023 one :/ Which makes the scalp prices even more absurd! Even when LPS toys were "getting worse", one of the biggest reasons was the change in vinyl quality and paint job quality. When I make toys someday, I really hope I can keep the quality consistent! I'm really glad you enjoyed my video though :3

I'm glad I'm reaching people who have similar childhoods to mine :3 Anyways, Pumpkin is such a cute name :3 what's his pumpkin placement? My lil' Butternut has pumpkin cheeks and a pumpkin forehead :3 and he chills with me as I do my work ^w^ it's awesome that you still have yours after all these years!! 🧡🐱🎃
@@purrplecloudcatt I got him on a Nigeria Falls trip (Canadian side, I'm Canadian). For years he came to school with me every single day. One day I forgot him and freaked out and a teacher gave me a bear to fill in for Pumpkin for the day. He has been with me since I can remember and he's the oldest friend I have. My dad knows how much Pumpkin means to me and he loves when he sees me carrying him around (as he occasionally makes trips outside my bedroom :P) My dad calls him Pumps. His pumpkin placement is one pumpkin cheek and a pumpkin over his right eye. You can tell that he has been loved for almost 16 years but is still in great condition. I sure would love to get him cleaned up but I don't trust anybody with him. Butternut is such a cute name
