Rhys playing Radha. Loved it!
spoiler:
Never keep a hand with 2 lands
That hand was one of the best opening hands the deck could have. I think almost anyone who plays apostles would keep that in a heartbeat. It was just unfortunate he never got any white.
My personal experiences are ones of constant Mana screwing, even in mono colored decks, so I gladly keep hands involving 3 or more lands. Especially in my Tazri and Sydri decks
@@ShylKest Assuming all of his lands are dual colors lands (best case scenario) and he runs 37 lands: He had a roughly 25% chance to draw a white producing land each turn. Seeing as he had a swamp and Urborg in his hand, it means he run basics, which lowers the chance to an even smaller number.
In a generic case, if you have 2 lands in your opening hand and you don't care about getting a specific color, you have only around 38% to get a land each turn (42% if you include 3 signets and sol ring). Commander games take a long time, imo, not worth the risk sitting bored for 40 minutes.
Simple fact of the matter is this is lose to variance. There is no "correction" that needs to be made with the deck, nor was it a case of keeping a bad hand. This was just variance not letting you draw any lands.
Not gonna lie, keeping a hand without that so needed white mana was probably a bad idea... But seeing that hand I must say that I 100% would've ended keeping that hand
Sam's only purpose in this game was to provide the Urborg for the two Cabal Coffers from his opponents.
I had to have a miserable time like that too, before I learned my lesson: if you have a potentially explosive hand that's completely dead if you don't topdeck a land, that hand is a big fat "NO" 90% of the time.
I felt so bad for him, but it was really funny.
I never rely on topdecking a land. If my opening hand doesn't have 3 lands, I'm mulling no ifs ands or buts.
5:57 Chris Taps Only one Breeding pool for UG. Even with ZR, this would not have worked as ZR only adds what was already produced, not what could be produced. So he could produce UU or GG but not UG
Ah, I see. I think we interpreted it wrong. I think the important clause here is the "produced" as in what it made, not what it can make?
@@MTGMuddstah correct, otherwise it would say "could produce" like Exotic Orchard.
@@cameronc530 Good to know! I'll make sure to watch for that moving forward.
@@MTGMuddstah it would have worked with Regal Behemoth and Monarch.
Great game, it’s a shame the Athreos+Edgewalker hand didn’t get a white mana source!
Wow, imagine casting 3 Demonic tutors, 2 Mana Geyser's, 2 Bolas' Citadel, and a Yawgs' will and not winning. Yikes.
It me!
Not to mention a Worst Fears
Thanks Muddstah! This was a super fun game! Even if I did get greedy with the ramp and then die :)
Rip
hey can I see your decklist? Building a muldrotha deck for the first time so I'm interested to see the differences
This game brings an important lesson to light. Unless you have a ramp spell with 2 lands....NEVER Keep a opening hand with fewer than 3 lands. And if you have more than 2 colors, you need 3 lands with each land being able to produce a color you need.
Was there a reason for the Inferno Titan to take out an apostle and deal damage to the weakest player at the table rather than kill Tatyova at 10:20?
Yep, that was so uncalled for...I mean, what was he gonna do with one apostle?
He could use cull the weak to make 4b mana to tutor and cast a sweeper off the rest of his black mana?
Well that was a Grulling affair for everyone! Except Rhys he looked to have a Radha time!
"Queen Marchesa with a Secret"
*Me; See 2 Shadowborn Apostles*
Thats not a a secret xD
Just as a note, maybe was already mentioned, but Zendikar Resurgent doesn't add extra mana of other color, it creates color of the one that was produced when the land was tapped for mana, the text says [produced]
thanks for an amazing game.
So when i saw radha i was like "ok".
But seeing how rhys used her ramp to just pump out mana early game was impressive.
Hell yeah, was going for the Radha deck! Good game
In what world does it make sense to inferno Titan an apostle and not the Tatyova
sad to see the mardu deck not do anything but it's always a struggle when you keep a 2 land hand with no ramp
That pain of not getting any lands is one we all know too well
No Grave Pact trigger on Muldrotha getting murdered, weird sentence if you think about it, because it was before rule change. It's gonna be weird to think about that in the future. Especially if people watch the video where Kokusho was the commander (coincidentally, I just noticed that that video is right next to my comment as I'm writing this.
Glad to hear someone say "Marchesa" correctly, with a hard C sound!
Always good to see Radha smash faces
It promises to be a good game. Thanks for the content, Mr. Goblin Noise.
This is why I stopped building my Muldrotha deck. Shes almost too good for casual. You just become a target. Once everyone established a decent board state on turn 6 it was just hate hate hate on Muldrotha
It's just because ramping is so good in casual games as the pressure to not ramp is hardly ever there. Everyone is shades of midrange and the one with the most mana is the one that dictates the pace, and Muldrotha is one of the penultimate decks to take advantage of that environment since she is card advantage in the Command Zone. Really, many UGx decks in casual Commander are like that--Thrasios, Kinnan, Golos etc. all have their ramp payoff in the Command zone and always available so if you build the deck to ramp it WILL go off.
@@AstridCeleste96 The "card advantage" Muldrotha offers is recursion, not card advantage. If you don't get to untap with your commander, mana and a full graveyard, she is a vanilla 6/6. Trust me, muldrotha without a hat trick wincon always gets bullied off the table because everybody knows how implausibly terrible the deck is without one.
Because you have to build your deck with taking advantage of her ability in mind, you have to pick cards which synergize with her.
Muldrotha has a few casual game plans:
Ramp into decree of silence,
zur's weirding and abundance lock,
pernicious deed+nevinryal's disk and phyrexian scriptures to recursively wipe your opponent's nonlands and build your manabase without any nonlands to break the symmetry,
gravepact and dictate or erebos,
recurring spore frog for infinite frog fogs,
persist+sac outlet+a way of getting +1/+1 counters onto the creature,
Greater good+ominous seas
But because self mill into a lab maniac effect is considered a CEDH play nowadays, casual muldrotha can't do it's thing without being a cedh deck.
Obviously the most efficient win con is thassa's oracle+consultation, but that is a cedh strat. Lab maniac and jace wielder of mysteries fall into the same boat. Turbo self mill is a cedh strat. Yes, it's the best strat for mullyD, but it falls within the domain of cedh.
I shoved Muldrotha into the 99 and built Sidisi instead.
Kinda looked like Andrew played himself there with the worst fear play😂😂
The Muldrotha hate is real.
It kind of deserves it with that amount of aids on the field. (grave pact, zendikar res., freaking cabal coffers). And that commander just has a lot of value. I was kind of suprised that the gruul player was just bashing on everyone this game.
Are you suprised? I’m sure they knew the risks.
The same thing happens to me when I play with Meren.
@@jayltonaraujo6639 that's why I put discard and Smokestack in my Meren deck. If I'm getting hated out regardless, I might as well give them a reason to hate me. :P
@@DarkEinherjar This is the best strategy, that was the reason for me to put the mindslicer on my deck :)
Quick rules question: Why didn’t Sam‘s Murder destroying Muldrotha at 9:49 result in Chris getting a Grave Pact trigger? Did I miss something?
Edit: The game was recorded before the rules changed.
I just love the explosiveness of that Radha deck!!
so quick question do you play exsanguinate? is there a reason you didnt find that with the demonic tutor when you had 15 floating mana?(after the tutor resolves) it wouldent kill rhys but it would get you more life for citadel etc. or a huge torment of hailfire from yourself to get rid more stuff etc.
How did Chris tap Breeding pool for both Blue and Green mana, when Zendikar says "add one mana...that land produced." so it should be Blue Blue or Green Green, am I missing something?
Was this game before the rule change? If not, at 9:51 when Sam murdered muldrotha, Chris’ opponents should’ve have sacrificed a creature to grave pact.
It was.
@@MTGMuddstah Ok 👍
This is a game that shows how gross Muldrotha as a commander can be. Even with his graveyard being hit 2 times (awesome BTW) he was still always a threat to the game. #stopbuildingMuldrotha
Build Yarok!!!
Hey Andrew! I've just wanted to ask whether it would be possible to get the Muddstah's Goblin Pawnshop playmat anywhere or whether one could buy the art to do a custom playmat (if the rights holder allows it). I'm absolutely in love with it since I first saw it. Keep up the great work and stay safe!
was there any reasoning to killing Chris when you took over Rhys's turn? feels like you left the strongest player on the board in a better position. especially with the leftover players being hellbent.
Muldrotha is overhated.
Does Reese have his list posted somewhere? I too have a radha list
Sad times for the Shadowborn Apostles, but it warms my heart to see Muldrotha hated on as hard as it deserves.
i feel like there was some point where over your 3 tutors and tons of mana you could have crafted over a turn or 2 a combo win
I'm curious how one doesn't win with a tutor and 30 mana
I understand why bottom right kept the hand he did. With Edgewalker the Apostles are free to cast and with Athereos they would keep coming back to hand. I saw his opening hand and assumed (probably as he did) that the deck was going to pop off hard this game. He must have really shuffled his deck poorly or something if he got only 3 lands total and none of them produced two of the colors in his deck at all
Muddstah I think that your sequencing was a bit off this game, I always saw you cast Vial Smasher as a last move for a turn rather than the beginning where you could've got some extra damage by the previous spells you casted, not a huge thing, but still it's worth noticing.
Vial Smasher only triggers on the first spell each turn, so it's impossible to get a trigger the turn you cast her.
Why do people still keep two land hands, the land count should always be at least three-four in opening hands in commander regardless if you have good cards or not, this is something that just bugs me to no end people think it is okay to top deck on a two land opener and we never see the deck do what it wants.
People usually run fewer lands than they should, too. So their chances of drawing out of it are pretty low as it is.
think the same, this isnt cedh. so you should go 3 lands minimum or 2 lands and a 2mana ramp.
Oh wow another Muldrotha lands matters deck. Yay.
Great vid!
Hi!
What is a good way to play commander online?
Long may she reign!
Is there a Marchesa Decklist out there?
i really wanna see that radha decklist
Is MTG Muddstah the same guy from ManlyBadassHero?
Predicted either Muldrotha would win or get so far ahead and become Archenemy at the start of the video. No surprise there - that commander is broken.
why did everyone leave Rhys Unscathed?
This game was rough in all ways. When a Muldrotha deck gets out graveyarded by a Tymna/Vial Smasher.
Said Tymna/Vial deck Rakdos Charm'd Muldrotha twice, so not surprising.
Ya I’m surprised you didn’t win with your mana geyser/ first tutor turn lol
I know, and then he did it again and STILL lost lol
Another game thrown by the table needlessly bullying muldrotha. When will you learn that the sultai pile isn't the first threat you have to deal with? One instant graveyard hate effect will comepletely shut down mullyD, which you had in hand. Killing the guy who can actually kill you is rarely not the wiser play than bullying the ramp pile decks. Also I want to see what happens when Chris's MullyD deck survives past turn 15.
Did rhys win or andrew lol Andrew seemed to have doomed everyone when he took his turn ;p
Do you have the muldrotha decklist?
Hey, here's the decklist that's pretty close to what it was when we played this game (about a year ago). tappedout.net/mtg-decks/muldrotha-lands-party/
@@chrisogorman8446 thank you mate, muldrotha is my pride and joy deck so i constantly seek decklists that do well to try and improve it in any way i can
@@l6ogan9 happy to help out a fellow muldrotha player! I built with a lands and sacrifice shell that has now turned more into a birthing pod/vannifar + lands shell with less of an emphasis on sacrifice. Hope it helps to improve your deck!
That's why I stopped playing decks with no green. Why play handicapped? Unless you like the challenge of playing from behind.
Love Muldrotha.
Marchesa Long May She Reign! 🔴⚪️⚫️❤️🤍🖤
If I didn't know any better, I would have thought this was an Arch Enemy game against the Muldrotha player. Dude builds a good deck and gets hated off the table for it. Nice.
When muldrotha was murdered where was grave pact trigger?
This is most likely an old game from before the rule change.
This game was filmed in 2019, prior to the Commander Death trigger changes.
For the first time i have been participating in that giveaway, but why doesn't it tell me that I did ? (order of 10$ and more that I just made, so I guess I'm in...)
I've mentioned that to them. I am hoping they will add some kind of notifications moving forward.
That was painful watching Chris be mana starved while everyone else was hella ramped
I never really like watching games where one person gets all the hate. It ways leaves that one player to work with it to come out on top. I like balanced games where everyone gets to play their decks to some extent where each player gets to do one big thing. Muldrotha and marchesa didn't get a chance to do anything.
The onus is on the player who is getting the hate for playing either an OP commander (Muldrotha) or sprinting so far ahead of everyone else by turn 5. It is their fault. They made themselves a target. I've got no sympathy for Spikes in a casual game.
@@evafox9696 the only thing muldrotha got to do was ramp and have their graveyard removed instant shut down. Marchesa didn't even come out on the battlefield and only one significant play which was one removal spell. I was really looking forward to seeing marchesa potential.
I also have a Radha deck. But it has an alter of Shnitzel as the art.
ah
Radha Radha
i know marchesa was supposed to do a lot more than he did and it wasn't a good game to showcase with it, but wow, i hate that list so much. is so lame
Erberg
Every time you guys go archenemy you get trampled
When chris sacced his steve he should of gained a life and drawn a card becuse of tatty
So the perfect lethal was actually one off
How do you demonic tutor 3 times and still lose lol
