  • This tutorial is about two simple filters that can give information about the topological and geometric characteristics of a 3D Model.
Some of the information can only be obtained if the mesh is two-manifold or closed. Also the position of the model in the reference system plays a role in the interpretation of results.

What are the units of measurement for the volume? mm^3, cm^3? Is there a setting that shows this? Without units, the values are not very useful.

Determines on the unit your mesh is using. In general these are unitless. Assuming you have file in mm, the volume will be mm³. If it's in inches the volume is in cubic inches etc.

Thanks a lot for sharing important information. Recently i worked with go scan 3D scanner and done some post processing work with meshlab, following your videos. Then done further modelling in solidworks. Please provide all filter options advance usage.

I’ve been using MeshLab with the Sampling Tool „Hausdorff Distance“.
So what I wanted to ask you is, what all of these parameters/results of the calculations mean? So „max" is the Hausdorff distance, mean is the mean surface distance and RMS is the root mean square distance?
Does anyone know that? Thank you!

Dir Signore, can you provide us the mesh model using in the video ? Thanks very much

Can I get the value of mass ?
Also, can I give the value of density for the calculation of inertia tensor

Thanks alot for the tutorials man!
Just one question. You mentioned that if the object is has holes the volume cannot be calculated when using the geometric measure option.
Could this also be used as a way to detect if an object is closed/water tight or not?!
I'm looking for a method to detect that, the watertightness of an object...really need it...any hints?!
    Thanks.

hi how can I measure angles or linear mesurements of human faces with Meshlab?

I don't think you can, but I might be wrong. There are some free tools that might help you out, e.g. netfabb basic, GOM inspect free or meshmixer (distances only)
