Here is the story behind this song: Three song writers met up, during their meeting, Harrington shared a story with her co-writers that she had heard on NPR' s Here And Now about a father, Paul Monti, whose son, Jared Monti, had died while saving another soldier during a battle in Afghanistan. When asked how he would remember his child on Memorial Day, the man simply said that he would drive his truck, which had been left exactly as it was when his son left for war. SFC Jarod Monti was awarded the MEDAL OF HONOR for his actions in Afghanistan. Look up the ciatation.
The first time I heard this song I was in my car. I had just found out my daughter was possibly being sent to Afghanistan straight out of Basic. She ended up being in a different company who wasn't sent over. I had to pull over because I couldn't stop the tears.
We played this song at my husband's funeral. He did commercial fence, and instead of a hearse, his casket was driven on the back of his truck, which his best friend drove. He always said when he died, he wanted his last ride to be on his truck. I made it happen. The truck with this song made every man cry at the gravesite as they took him off the truck. He wasn't suppose to die at 45 with 5 young kids at home though. 😢😢
When he says “I’ve cussed I’ve prayed I’ve said goodbye shook my fist and ask God why these days when I’m missing you this muchhhhhh” that part makes me cry so much. Makes me think of my family that have passed

Well, this is another country song that absolutely delivered! I’m a girl and I love songs that send a strong message but also hit you in the heart. My grandfather served in three wars. The war did not kill him, the alcohol did. Back in the day, that’s how they treated PTSD… They drank! 1978, my grandfather was on a two week drinking bench and ended up in the hospital. He had eight massive heart attacks, then his kidneys shut down on him. He ended up dying from pneumococcal pneumonia. My grandfather raised me the first 7 1/2 years of my life. My uncle, was 10 months younger than me. We listened to all of my grandpa‘s war stories, which he made them to be funny for us. I learned two things from him, respect the flag, respect the uniform! When I listen to this song, it gets me! I respect every man and woman who has ever served in our military and/or are serving. They have my respect! My heart feels for every person who has lost a loved one in the military, regardless of how they died. Just so you know, when vets get together, it's usually the funny stuff that gets talked about. And civilians really don't understand how much absurdity exits military life. @@BourbonCountryReacts I do get it! My grandpa raised me the first 7 1/2 years of my life. I was almost 13 years old when he passed away. His youngest son, my uncle and I were raised like brother and sister. We would sit around him all the time listening to his war stories. But I do get it! I watched him drink yourself to death because of all the crap he went through. He was in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He started out in the 82nd airborne division. When his knees gave out he joined the Air Force. One of his brothers joined the Marines and his other two brothers joined the army. Crap, I’m getting choked up right now. I grew up around military all of my life. In fact, just a couple of miles from my home is the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek South Carolina. From first grade through high school, I grew up with military kids. I’m grateful because I grew up around diversity. It just occurred to me… A lot of people want to know how come the kids I grew up with all of my life are still tight as friends today. I think it’s because of the military. We always have each other‘s backs. I’m grateful for you right now. When you do reactions to certain songs that bring the military in play, it brings back memories of my grandpa. One of my favorite pictures is of me as an infant, sitting on the front porch with my grandpa. He was holding me on one leg, next to him was a bottled Coke a cola and in his other hand was his lucky strike cigarette. Damn…
By the way...knowing Lee personally since 10th grade, I can assure you he's not had a brother die. But he can write songs to make u think otherwise. He's only had one brother his while life and it's the guy driving the truck in this video.
Melinda, Lee reminds me of Chris Stapleton in the fact that when they sing, they can make you feel like that song relates personally to them. I love this song and have since the day it came out!
@@LadyGator1983 I agree. Chris Stapleton wrote the song 'Drink a Beer' that was recorded by Luke Bryan about a friend that died and always reminds me of my best friend who tragically drowned while boating on a 4th of July weekend 10 years ago. I've been drinking Bourbon for many years. I live in Kentucky and have tried many many Bourbons. We grow up with it. I can remember when you could literally walk into a liquor store and pick up Old Rip off the shelf....for less than $30. The new Van Winkles don't really taste like the old ones to me. The Pre-2013 Van Winkles was the last of the old stash. Those are unicorns. If any are left, you won't get it. Even back then, you could walk into a liquor store and get 1. No price gouging, no lotteries, no lines, no bottle flippers. It's crazy what Bourbon has turned into.
Great reaction guys. Now here's the thing about country music country music is designed to reach out and grab you by the throat and to impart the emotion that the song and bodies. That emotion is what drives the story. That can be something lightweight and funny it can be something joyful it can be something incredibly deep or it can be something incredibly anger-inducing are sad. But when you listen to a country music one way or the other it's going to hit you in the fields. Because that's what country music does.

Loved this song. Loved your reaction. As always, y'all never fail to make me giggle. Thank you for another great reaction! 🤎
Thanks for watching. Reminds me of driving through nowhere in Boone County WV, which is as rural as it gets. Looked over the side of a hill as I was riding, while my dad drove. "Hey, dad, I could swear I just saw a '63 split-window corvette over that hill back there." "No way," he says. But he went back to try to buy it about a month later with a pile of cash. Owner said, "That was my daddy's car when he died, and it was sitting right there. And that's exactly where it's going to stay, no matter who shows up with any amount of money." And believe me, there it stayed. - Keith

I forgot he is also a partner (2017) in a company called American Born. It is a whiskey company. Their signature product is an American Born, Bourbon Whiskey. Lee said "I believe in family, hard work, and that the American way is about quality and doing your best. It’s how I was raised and who I am. I’ve finally found a whiskey that reflects the same values, so when it’s time to wind down after a show or dive into writing music, you’ll find me sipping on a glass of American Born.” Maybe you guys should try it out.
Lee played football in high school and got a scholarship to Clemson University were he was a long snapper for the Tigers. After a injury he decided to focus on music. He started out as a songwriter then transition to singing. He also wrote a song called "Orange Empire " to fire up the home crowd one season. Go Tigers!
I see you guys are from Indiana. I'm 15 minutes southwest of Fort Wayne. I've seen a lot of your reactions and I'm glad to follow other hoosiers. This song hits deep and I used to sing it at every gig I did. Good reaction guys 👍
This song gets me because he says, " I turn your memory on." I'm the kind of person who can cut off emotion till I turn it on. All the words are emotional, but that line hits especially close to home
His voice is great- his song ‘one of them girls’ is good and fun, but he does a duet “I hope you’re happy now” which is just haunting. I don’t know what thing about bourbon, but do you all except cash for a ‘choose your own adventure’ bottle? 😂
This is one of my favorite songs by Lee Brice. He's a very talented entertainer. The first time I heard this song and watched the video was on CMT. I feel they don't make em' like they used to in Country music. 💕
That was a new one for me. Wow. I won't lie, I am crying. This reminds me of a woman I know, who lost her twenty-year-old son when he came home while his home was being robbed. He knew the people, so they killed him. 15 years after his murder, his mother still has his car. It doesn't run. Hasn't in years. But she has it in her backyard and she refuses to let it go. Her husband and her daughter have tried telling her it isn't healthy, but I can't judge her for needing that connection to him. Great reaction. Still can't believe I haven't heard this before. It's a true country song, in how it tells a story and hits you hard in the emotions.
Great reaction guys!! This one really does hit one in the feels. This song always reminds me of a family friend, Alain. He was in the Army, but made it home, seriously injured, but mostly recovered. He did eventually pass away due to complications of that injury. But the song reminds me of a happier day and memory. Yep, I ended up driving his truck, he drove the U-haul I had went to pick up... largest size they had, seat would not move and I could not depress the clutch OR brakes all the way.. my 5'2" self just couldnt reach. Of the 4 other people there that day Alain was the only one who could drive a standard AND was tall enough.. cause me mother was 5 foot flat. So I drove his truck, he drove the U-haul. When I want to feel his memory, I take the top off my Moms old jeep and drive down a back road and envision him in front of me on his Harley. Something that happened quite a lot.
I can't heat this song without tearing up. So many thoughts of those who gave all. I am including those who made it home first. Love y'all and hugs to all who lost someone.
Jerked the tears right outta my eyes just like the way it did when it first came out. Here's a oldie but a goodie, Prop me up against the jukebox when I die, sung by Joe Diffie. Put it on the list, Dustin.🙂
On the night of September 15 2001, while on I was on library from the Marine Corps, I slid down on 40' cliff landed on my feet fell forward and smacked my head on a rock. I was found the next morning by a couple boy scouts and the one's dad. My mom flew out to be with me in the hospital and was told a few times that I would be dead within 72 hours, and the one time two my closest friends took the pickup I had at that time and where kind of beating on it, when they got home they got a call from my mom telling them that I was awake and that we would be heading up to the V.A. in Minneapolis the next day.

Gotta get that pain out however you can. Nobody gets helped when you don’t process it somehow. I had a very close friend die in Afghanistan and it damn near killed me. Still hilarious to us, but dark AF. - Keith
Damn…
So so good 👍 gonna try like hell to stop crying.. and find some Ole Rip Van Winkle uggg need a snot stopper much love ❤️ great song
I laughed at "snot stopper." - Keith
Lee Brice is a great artist you should hear Hard to Love and Love Like Crazy
Added votes for those -Dustin
By the way...knowing Lee personally since 10th grade, I can assure you he's not had a brother die. But he can write songs to make u think otherwise. He's only had one brother his while life and it's the guy driving the truck in this video.
That REALLY speaks to his skill as a performer. - Keith
Country music can really take you to your feels in so many ways
@@WaymoresBlues I’m so sorry to hear about your friend! There’s never a good reason why we lose people all of a sudden out of the blue. Sometimes I like to think of it like this… They were too good for this rotten cruel world! God bless!
@@LadyGator1983 Thank you for your kind remark. It was a bad time for all. The irony of it all was that his nickname was 'Fish'. I shit you not. He was an avid boater and had bought a 2nd home in order to be nearer to that same lake where he died.
My favorite song of his
We can see why. - Keith
This song makes me cry.
Not just you. - Keith
Love this one. Thanks guys.
Thanks for watching!
That's what I look for in any genre, from classical to punk. - Keith
A THOUSAND DOLLARS??? 😲😲😲😲 every sip best have an once of gold in it! Sorry, I'm about to be stripped of my PMS privileges...I won't even spend $100 on a pair of shoes!
Never heard of this guy. Heard the song, just didn't know the artist. Great song, had me in tears thinking about my dad, he's a Marine and when he passed 10 years ago, I was wishing my parents had kept that beat to hades Chevy truck so I could crank up (don't laugh)the old 8 track tape of Alabamas and just drive.
"Hey, dad, I could swear I just saw a '63 split-window corvette over that hill back there."
"No way," he says.
But he went back to try to buy it about a month later with a pile of cash.
Owner said, "That was my daddy's car when he died, and it was sitting right there. And that's exactly where it's going to stay, no matter who shows up with any amount of money."
And believe me, there it stayed. - Keith

Also... yea we don't play the secondary market game, and it pisses us off that people do... but I guess... in the end, something is worth as much as someone else is willing to pay for it -Dustin
@@BourbonCountryReacts A good bourbon usually comes with a hefty price tag but $1000. NO!
HaHaHa!!! We were both drinking that 20 year old Pappy out of the red solo cup at that "dance" and OMG it was amazing.
Right? Two bottles of Pappy 20 randomly appear on the table with a stack of red solo cups. "Well, this evening just got a whole lot more interesting." - Keith
That song wrote and is a true story. It was the Dad that drove his son’s truck
Lee Brice has a lot of great songs. Mercy is another good one.
I'll add that to the list -Dustin
I forgot he is also a partner (2017) in a company called American Born. It is a whiskey company. Their signature product is an American Born, Bourbon Whiskey.
Lee said "I believe in family, hard work, and that the American way is about quality and doing your best. It’s how I was raised and who I am. I’ve finally found a whiskey that reflects the same values, so when it’s time to wind down after a show or dive into writing music, you’ll find me sipping on a glass of American Born.” Maybe you guys should try it out.
If we can get ahold of some, we will. "Celebrity whiskeys" have been a thing lately, with a really mixed track record. - Keith
Lee Brice has a good voice a couple more of his songs are Memory I Don’t Mess With and Boy.

Lee played football in high school and got a scholarship to Clemson University were he was a long snapper for the Tigers. After a injury he decided to focus on music. He started out as a songwriter then transition to singing. He also wrote a song called "Orange Empire " to fire up the home crowd one season. Go Tigers!
“I find a field and tear it up!” I bet he’s real popular with the local farmers! 😆
lol, probably depends on the season. - Keith
This song means alot to me. I inherited my daddy's truck. I drive it all the time
Yeah, I bet it really hits. - Keith
So Good..
I see you guys are from Indiana. I'm 15 minutes southwest of Fort Wayne. I've seen a lot of your reactions and I'm glad to follow other hoosiers. This song hits deep and I used to sing it at every gig I did. Good reaction guys 👍
Thanks! Appreciate the Hoosier support! -Dustin
This song gets me because he says, " I turn your memory on." I'm the kind of person who can cut off emotion till I turn it on. All the words are emotional, but that line hits especially close to home
I've heard the song 100 times I still haven't heard the background music
The message is so powerfully delivered, that you have to flip sociopath switches to actually hear the music behind it. - Keith
This song is great! It hits me hard!
I watched. I'm commenting. Enjoy your videos. Thanx
LOL! Thanks!
It hits hard for sure. - Keith
I get the feeling this song hits a lot of people in very personal ways. - Keith

Wanted to beat everyone and everything, not a healthy reaction, but nobody teaches you how to deal with that.
