Three of a kind only gives if it occurs in one roll not one turn, so the three 1s are only 300 in this example, not 1000.

3 1’s is a thousand. 5 1’s is 10k game over. 5 3’s = 3k plus all dice. Same with all other numbers except 1’s. But at any point if someone rolls 5 1’s on a start roll that’s automatically 10k / game over

You’re right in our neck of the woods on the others though, 3 4’s in one roll is 400 points. 5 4’s in one roll would be 4k. Unless you’re dealing with 1’s then 3 1’s make 1k and 5 1’s in one roll = 10k write it down and pass the dice around to see if anyone can beat your 10k. If you pass 5 dice after rolling 5 1’s the next person just needs a 5 or 1 to make it 1050 or 1100 then pass dice

We call it 10 thousand. You roll 5 dice and 5 3’s = 3 k points and all the dice. 1’s and 5’s keep the hand moving but if you happen to throw 3 1’s that’s 1,000 points and if you’re lucky lucky 5 1’s = 10k points games over everyone gets an extra roll to go out. Cause I could score 10k points and stop but if you score 10,250 points then you win after the last roll has went around. It’s much easier to show someone with a set up dice than typing it out

I know this as '1000' which is played with 6 dice.
In the variation I was taught, a straight goes from 1 to 6 and is worth 3000 points, while three pairs is 1500. Furthermore is the score the same for three-of-a-kinds, but each additional of-a-kind is worth 100 points. And finally, there is a challenge mechanism, in which you must have exactly one remaining die to roll to start that challenge. You may roll that die twice to succeed in rolling a 1 or a 5. If you succeed, your current score for the turn increases with 500 points instead of the normal score of 100 or 50 for the 1 or 5 respectively. However, if you fail to roll the scoring die in both attempts, you will not only score 0 points from your turn, but you will also lose 500 points on the scoresheet for failing the challenge. If you succeed at the challenge, you may roll all 6 dice again to build up more points in the usual way. And if you manage to start an additional challenge the same way as before, the bonus for each success will increase by 500 points for each challenge level. But you have to be careful, because your penalty will increase by 500 points for each challenge level as well.

This game is stolen, and he's playing it wrong, no straight in this game and that's not how you get a thousand points.😡
