okay, dude, first of all.... the showyness, we call that confidence in the music world. number two, its called passion for the music.... and HOW THE HELL DO YOU THINK SHE GETS HER SOUND? THE SHOWYNESS IS CALLED HAVING FUN WITH THE MUSIC!! Esther Kim is amazing, i dont think she needs your help to tell her what to do " Hope that helps :) "
Bravo to her violin teacher- definitely made a significant contribution to her success. And of course, bravo to this violinist! I know exactly what it takes to play a piece like this- wonder if she's now involved in violin as a career because she had the chops to do so 5 years ago when this tape was made!
Asherel - Isn't that the most beautiful thing about this piece? Of course, technically, it is extremely difficult and complex. But the fact that she seems to be just having a blast playing the violin, is the most beautiful thing to me... My guess is, she is so great BECAUSE of her obvious passion for playing!
I'm learning a Spanish classical dance to this, and it's so hard but beautiful! My teacher won't give us a CD yet, but I can practice to this, lol. BEAUTIFUL, THANK YOU!
@beautifulviolin Its quite amazing how many hidden violin virtuoso players eg @turtoy1 ...there is on youtube who claim to be better than the likes of Sarah Chang, Joshua Bell etc and in this case Esther Kim. As you say these unknown 'Virtuosos' are never ever seen performing in public or ever place a video of themselves on youtube, wonder why ?
back to the point,I noticed that at the end of this video, when Esther is presenting her accompanist, she turns right to point the accompanits,so the accompanist was on the right side of the stage, so I realized that all this time,it's been the accompanist that she looked at,not the camera, yet,I am not surprised at all if her parents tought her to look at the camera and smile!
That's true, but I bet Szeryng was still better than her at this age. You should hear Menuhin's early recordings. I listened to a recording of him when he was 17 of symphonie espagnole and it's the best rendition I've heard in my opinion. Or Heifetz's 1911 recordings, those are amazing too, and he was only 10, possibly as young as 9
I myself am a music student and have been aroud asians alot.I saw one of Korean friends teaching violin to korean child at school, and I saw everytime the boy made a mistake, his mother would give him a big punch on his head until she noticed I was watching them, then she stopped!
oh, no no, that's not what I meant. please read the rest of my comments along with the comment of "mmendchu" whom I replyed to.since the comments I sent were too long, I had to split them in 2, 3 individual comment-box. I really like Esther, and she definitely is very tallented.
I've seen so many older and younger people play this, but I've never seen someone play this so amazingly. I think part of it is because everyone is always so freaky out about playing or serious. She's just happy with it. This is how all music should be played.
sarah chang also smiles alot while playing, but it doesn't seem fake at all.I don't know,I also don't want to judge while I have never seen either of them in real life!
I don't quite like what I'll say since it's mostly going by stereotypes, BUT, I wouldn't be surprised if her looking has something to do with her mother's influence. I've been around a lot of asian music students and in many many cases I've been how parents are sooo uptight and want their children to perform perfectly + smile for the camera. Again, I'm not proud of basing this on stereotypes, but from personal experience it seems to me it's one of the parents telling her to smile or something.
kay, dude, first of all.... the showyness, we call that confidence in the music world. number two, its called passion for the music.... and HOW THE HELL DO YOU THINK SHE GETS HER SOUND? THE SHOWYNESS IS CALLED HAVING FUN WITH THE MUSIC!! Esther Kim is amazing, i dont think she needs your help to tell her what to do " Hope that helps :) "
Some of them yes and some no. It's usually not advisable to move that much because the bow would need constant adjustment. In the other hand this kind of movement sometimes help the violinist to be expressive in the music. Sometimes though happens the other way around; the violinist, if feels really confortable, is carried away by the music and moves around.
I remember my orchestra teacher telling me this when I was in 7th grade! this was one hard piece to learn. Esther good work, very talented and pleasing for the ears. I listen to it every time I listen to musics.
Dear Esther; If you are planning to go tu Spain and you don't have the visa don't worry, you go with your violin and play like that, and you will be welcome by the Queen and the King!!! Your interpretation and sound are fantastic!!
very good technique but i think that she is not mature to fully bring it off. in a few more years she will be able to make the Sarasate her own trademark but in this recording she is far to immature.
moon; she is preteen so young, give her chance to improve, she is cetainly talented in music, may be in dance, too, if you don't agree please post your video, so i can compair. would you please!
wHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL SHE PLAYED WITH US SHE WAS LIKE 11 OR 12 AND SO MUCH BETTER THAN ALL OF US WE LOVED HOW SHE PLAYED BUT HATED THAT WE WOULD NEVER BE THAT GOOD...SHE'S AMAZING
Being a musician and being able to play beatifully doesn't require impeckable technique... does it?! Plus listen to that tone, intonation and good UP BOW staccato!!
More Chinese please. If this is what a young Chinese (really Korean but racists never know the difference anyway) girl can do, then I want to hear more.
you took the words RIGHT out of my mouth. seriously, thats what I was thinking. dude. who are you to talk? are you a 13 or 14 year old girl? btw. this song is not even close to being as easy as it looks, in case you're unaware.
Congratulations, Esther on such an awesome performance! You are a very talented young lady. You play so beautifully and expressively. I especially liked how you smiled during your performance! Best wishes on all of your future performances!
I have listened to Zapateado by Yitz Pearlman, Hadelich, etc.. all very excellent violinists - but Ms. Kim's rendition both this year and later on are the best I've heard. Her special brand of youthful energy and passion and her obvious joy in playing this song are what makes it so great to me! Bravo Esther!
@rebellionVII thats the easy answer, the more intersting one is because their language is a tonal language. as in one sound or word means something different depending on how high or low your pitch is. making them hit the perfect note (or pitch) in their language, it gives them a head start.
she just looks so absolutley comfterble playing it! she makes it fun to listen to and watch.... i admire that so much.... when im preforming i always for some reason cut DOWN the emotion.
14 years later i'm still watching this xD love it!
Una belleza!!!!! Increible!!!! Es una de las piezas más difíciles de tocar en violín.
Hermosa Kim.

In my opinion this is the coolest violin song there is. It's not too long, it's playfull and the melody is amazing. Well done Esther Kim! BRAVO!
Piece**
You are great!!!!!!!!!
this recording is much more "real" than her more recent and more professional one. i think you're just being presumptuous.
Das ist so toll!!
So good perfomance and . We can feel she enjoyed ^_^
I'm learning a Spanish classical dance to this, and it's so hard but beautiful! My teacher won't give us a CD yet, but I can practice to this, lol. BEAUTIFUL, THANK YOU!
saludos desde Brasil...es muy preciosa!
she is so good ! i think that she is a prodigy
She plays it so technically perfect! Brilliant

에스더김의연주는예술그자체입니다
최근에는활동을안하시는지궁금하고 아름다운연주를다시보고싶습니다
Wow, she plays very well! Is anyone know who she is? There is not much information on google.
Preciosa! Pablo Sarasate es el mejor violinista de la historia.
@Obtulkaa i agree there is much for her to do too bring it off as the sarasate should be
man she going so fast. i keep thinking any moment now the strings on that bow is gona snap offf
By the way...Which violin is she using here... very nice sound
i love her for being so awesome and hate her for being so much better than i'll ever be
she looks like she's enjoying the music! that's what matters the most! :D bravo!
@beautifulviolin

Time Flys by too fast..

And what about the pianist? Amazing too, no matter age or what, is playing together what it's all about!! Very well indeed!
***** Be cheerfull and full of hope!! Look up Burt Goldman for miracle video's and the miracle-YOU! Happy playing!

That's Awesome....part 1:21...is great...is really misterious...aaa...great interpretation..

omg, such a cheerful song! do you know, i call myself after the classical song Tarantella. hehe. my nickname.
Orchestra--she will most likely be a budding soloist. She already has an awesome resume as far as solo work goes.
i don' t think she is looking at the camera. i guess she is trying to look at the pianist so that they can match.
wHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL SHE PLAYED WITH US SHE WAS LIKE 11 OR 12 AND SO MUCH BETTER THAN ALL OF US WE LOVED HOW SHE PLAYED BUT HATED THAT WE WOULD NEVER BE THAT GOOD...SHE'S AMAZING

awesome. if theres anyone who have some negative comments. have some insecurity issues.
she is great.
More Chinese please. If this is what a young Chinese (really Korean but racists never know the difference anyway) girl can do, then I want to hear more.
i stick what to what i say while technically it is flawless there its sounds to me too forced. i can think of little how to describe it.

Te amooooooooooooooooo!! :D
Exelente jeje xD
Holy mackeral ! They got the microphone close enough on this one
Very good. I didn't particularly care for her Staccato bowing (too heavy and too much on the string), but otherwise very good.
Shoulder rest is old style of cushon, not fancy kuhn or wolfe, viloin sounds very good yet. she is young virtuoso, no doubt!
@lulwuttttttt There is a NZ Esther Kim and a American Esther Kim lol . >< The NZ Esther Kim is amazing as well!
SHe's quite good- the hands and fingers, and mostly almost no mistakes , and lastly lots of expression-movements
one really good thing is she looks like she's having fun and not freaking out about every little thing
this girl become a good violinist by her mom's punch?, i doubt it, i'd rather believe she is talented.
you took the words RIGHT out of my mouth. seriously, thats what I was thinking.
dude. who are you to talk? are you a 13 or 14 year old girl?
btw. this song is not even close to being as easy as it looks, in case you're unaware.
I do agree with you. she is rushing all the way through, but still I like her!
Than you have a great problem with your hearing ;-) Kim is a great musician!
omg she played it soo well, and its also a really fast tempo too. wow
yes you are right! i always wondered why she keeps looking at the camera!
She's beautifull, her playing of cours also ^
I don´t think so. The piano is probably on her left side (because of public). She is cool!
I'm realy impresed of sound on this video... beautiful! and amazing performance ofcourse :) BRAVO
Ok
very Talented young musician!!! Zigeunermusik is a good fun!
You are very talented you play very well like Midori.
i wish she wouldnt keep looking at the camera, other than that v good!
She is simply great!
Beautiful music, and she enjoyed it so much...
@Khalkin87 inmature?? is it a sing of inmature to enjoy the music??
talent is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.
She's like 20 now and winning competitions all over.
race has nothing to do with anything, you just need to work hard.
she is enjoying it!!!!!! as it should be played by all violinists
She is like...talking with her violin.amazing
que este es un Zapateado Inteligente :-)
She's just amazing! It's such a nice piece, and you just must enjoy it!!!I love it!
Ok
Congratulations, Esther on such an awesome performance! You are a very talented young lady. You play so beautifully and expressively. I especially liked how you smiled during your performance!
Best wishes on all of your future performances!
wowee!!! she's awesome!! is tis taken frm a concour??
lols. no biggy. =D
just to not be lost in the beat
I think she was communicating with her pianist, not looking at the camera.
does this girl go or did go to the purcell school
what's with all the controversy over this video?
is she a asian version of Ingrid Bergman? Right?
argh, genius kids! wasn't perfect, but what is?
I have listened to Zapateado by Yitz Pearlman, Hadelich, etc.. all very excellent violinists - but Ms. Kim's rendition both this year and later on are the best I've heard. Her special brand of youthful energy and passion and her obvious joy in playing this song are what makes it so great to me! Bravo Esther!
I love Esther Kim :)
Bravo!!!
Not bad, now go watch Henryk Szeryng
Perfect performance. Excellent.
this girl looks lot happier, my oppinion
