I actually really liked the creatures last line "if not for winning, why debate over means and ends." it makes a good point, debating about virtually ANYTHING is pointless unless you have a way to test your hypothesis. The creature may have goaded the humans into betraying him with his excessive opulence and consumption in front of a starving village, but in doing so he tested their limits, "how long could humans remain civil and obedient if they are living in less-than-ideal conditions"
